Had a regular commenter reach out to let me know his comments were not showing up in the comment section and disappearing from his comment section as well. Is anyone else having that happen?
I have commented on a few of you other videos and in the morning when I check back it is not there FYI there is a special tape that shark bite requires that you wrap the connections with that are to be buried. I wish we could do what you're doing down there. A plumbing license is required for a project like this and we are not allowed to bury pex. We have to use HDPE black or blue or soft copper, and some real expensive fittings. Love the videos and the message. You are doing everything I do and it is great to see a 1 man band getting it done.
Thanks Shawn, I appreciate the info on the plumbing. Sounds like you are in a pretty strict area. Pex is very common to bury around here. So, I guess it isn't as tough as the HDPE? I normally don't do the plumbing jobs but trying to learn a little more and your info is very helpful. That is strange how messages dissappear. If I don't comment back pretty soon then I wasn't able to see it. Thanks again, Sam
Lived in east Tennessee for 28 years! The wife got a wander bug and we have been in south Floridaaaaa for 3 years. I was able to convince her to move back to Tennessee, and we have a new home north of Chattanooga! Moving back in end of May 2023. Thank goodness!!!!
Well welcome home Ray! 😁 No place like good ole Tennessee. We have thought about being snow birds in Florida and kinda looking in the Vero Beach area for a nice RV lot. But man o man those things are EXPENSIVE!!!! I'm fairly close to Chattanooga, about 1 hour away... Thanks, Sam
Just found your channel. I enjoy the ends of your videos. I just started about a year ago at my job doing heavy equipment mechanics/ welding and also some operator time. It is the best job I’ve ever had but I’m running into some brick walls within my personal life that make me want to quit what I love doing. Thanks for your kind words sir!! Us youngins look up to guys like you! Keep diggin🤜🏼🙏🏼
Thank you Brian and I appreciate the encouragement. Will pray for those brick walls to fall down. Proverbs 3:5-6 says "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." God Bless, Sam
I am so glad I found your channel as I like your message at the end of your videos. I like the content you had but when I got to the end of the first video when you had the message that just sealed the deal for me, I’ll be a lifelong subscriber to you, thank you sir, and keep these videos coming
🥰Brother , I certainly enjoyed this video and was truly shocked to see ypour Bibical information at the end. I too have been saved and since 1959 I have sinned we all do at times we are not sin free. Thank you brother for the blessing that you shared with us. I have subscribed and I will stay subscribed because we both need the Lord. God bless and stay safe. I live in West Virginia Mineral County.
Thank you Jim and welcome to the channel. I appreciate you sharing about your faith and glad you enjoyed the message. Thanks for supporting the channel as well... God Bless, Sam
You know Mike, actually off camera it did wrap me up. That would have been a good segment but the camera was off. That is a great way of saying that. When you think about it a compass is always right and the Bible says the devil is always a liar! You will hear that again on a future video!!! God Bless, Sam
Thank you Margaret; glad you enjoyed the video and especially the message. Thanks for commenting and supporting the channel to help spread the message... God Bless, Sam
I'm new to the channel. Heard about it from one that I just found a few days ago. That's none other than Mr. Smith Worx himself. I really enjoyed the video but your massage at the end is what I enjoyed the most. I'm an Ole Retired Guy with lots of time and I enjoy watching the younger men and women doing the things I use to do. I'm looking forward to your next video and I'll go back and watch some of your past videos. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
Thank you Jim and welcome to the channel. Smith Worx is a good ole feller. I appreciate him giving my channel a mention. I appreciate the feedback on the message and glad you enjoyed it. I believe the Lord has given a platform to share the message and very thankful when folks let me know it was a blessing. So God bless and I sure appreciate you supporting the channel... Sam
Hi Sam, Fighting with Pex is a battle not easily won. Lol I’ve never used a trencher for my Skid Steer, It looks really Handy .! The job turned out Good for you , I can see where it made for a full day for sure 👍🏻 I appreciate the Message.! Take Care and Stay Safe !!
Right, man vs pex! That is a loosing battle for mankind! Trencher works great as long as the ground isn't extremely rocky. A hard days work, but satisfying... Thanks...
I just installed 300’ of waterline here in NY. I sure do envy the soil conditions and frost depth you are working with there. Mine was through areas of hard packed clay with rocks, gravel and a wet area that tried pulling my Muck boots off my feet….at 5’ deep. I dug mine with an 18” bucket on a 304 (I can’t dig to 5’ with a 12” bucket because of the width of the thumb).
@@tristardiggin love your videos man been following along for a couple months now its crazy how different some things are for the same end result depending on the area!
Thank you and I certainly appreciate you subscribing and helping the channel. Glad you enjoyed the message and it is definitely something we need more of. God Bless, Sam
Enjoyed watching your video! Great job sir. Keep an eye on that Sharkbite fitting at the meter. Those fittings aren't designed for below ground installation and I have seen dozens of them corrode and blow apart in my line of work. God bless you and Happy Easter!
That’s trencher is pretty kewl. I wonder how one would work here in this rocky soil I live in. I’ve got a real appreciation for that nice looking soul it was kicking out. Great message again and great video. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks! The rock teeth on it handle rock pretty good. She gets to bouncing pretty good though. Nice soil around here for the most part. Appreciate the feedback on the message! God Bless, Sam
It’s a real pleasure to watch someone put together a video like this and preach God’s word and tell a lost and dying world the truth about God and how they can be saved. I really appreciate it and hope and pray that you on the path that your on. I think you should take your bible to the job sites with cause you never know when He will place someone lost and hurting in your path.
Lol, every time I try to unspool wire or pipe like that, I feel like I'm wrestling an octopus with 13 arms! That thing will make you madder than a wet hen. Thanks for sharing the video and the message.
Hi Sam, Easy digging and must not have that deep of a frost line. Our frost line is 6' here in Montana. I've installed a ton of underground. Couple of pointers for you to try and or consider on the next one. - The inside diameter of Pex is smaller than the pipe size. I wouldn't personally go less than 1 1/4" ID for water volume and I also prefer poly pipe. We use ford pack joint fittings on everything. I'd rather not dig anything up again to repair it. More expensive but 100x better IMO. - Crimped pex fittings are garbage. - Pex Type A piping is great for plumbing supply lines in the house even though it is rated to be buried. - Unroll the roll of pipe next to the ditch instead of trying to "unspool" it and drag it. I had to learn the hard way too.. :) - Utilize frost freeze hydrants that can be repaired without having to dig them up (I prefer Iowa frost freeze hydrants). - When running pipe under a road we like to put foam board insulation over it before we bury it so the frost doesn't push down to the pipe when driving over it. I enjoy your video's, keep them coming!
Also, I'm definitely not a plumber but was in the fire sprinkler industry for 20 years. Curious what the water pressure was at the house before installing the pressure reducing valve. If memory serves me right house fittings are good up to 65psi. Just wondering if you could of done away with that pressure reducing valve. Nothing worse than standing in a shower and feeling like I'm getting peed on, lol.
Yup, low pressure in a house isn’t very good. Not sure what street pressure was. The customer requested the pressure reducer when I installed the line… Thanks
@@tristardiggin 18" is crazy! Hey, I promise i'm not picking. But on the bottom of the frost freeze there is a weep hole. When the valve gets shut the water weeps out of the hole. What I like to do is take a 5 gallon bucket and cut the bottom of it out. Slide it over the pipe and fill with gravel. Than back fill with dirt. Gives the water a place to go and should help from keeping the weep hole from getting plugged up with dirt. :) God Bless!
so easy now with trenching attachments i remember digging trench's by hand using a trench shovel would be a good days work of digging to do that length. but that was 40 years ago :)
😃yup would take at least 1 day to dig it by hand, or maybe a week... I did some work for a guy that was in his 90's and he told me on his first house he hand dug all of the footers for it! Now that is real work... God Bless, Sam
That is interesting. Very few folks do that around here. Mostly city water system or well systems. Mostly off grid location do a catchment system... Thanks, Sam
Im a plumber in cali, if you are going to do a job like this again try to buy parts online they got all the stuff, and i try not to buy stuff at lowes because sometimes they dont have everything you need, you have to plan ahead for a job like this, and we dont use those pex b because they leak, we use pex a and they also sell insulated pex online.
Thanks Cole. Wow, 1200' that will take some work to roll that stuff out. 😳 Hope you save up some patience for Friday 😁. Thanks for the comment and your support of the channel... Sam
@@tristardiggin it's supposed to be nearly 80 degrees down here for today and tomorrow so I'm hoping it won't be as bad to roll out 🤣 I'm hoping I can make my trenches look half as good as yours did in the video!
You need to use compression fittings instead of shark bites? I’ve never had one leak but they don’t last underground. I’ve never used them underground but people who have they come apart in a year. I know you’re using the shark bite in a box and I know compression fittings are more expensive, but they will last for years but love your videos. Keep them up. Thank you.
I like that crimper. Been wanting to get one for a good while. And I located the tripod. The owner of the land clearing job found it and said it was busted up pretty good. 😫 Oh well, I just ordered a new one.
I found this channel by chance. I liked to see your CAT, it's pretty, it looks like it's well preserved. As for your trencher, for us here in Brazil it is not very useful because it does not have other measurements in width and our soil is very hard in certain regions. Better is on the same mini excavator.
Thanks and welcome to the channel. Sounds like some tough digging in Brazil. Thanks for letting me know where you are from. I think that is cool someone in Brazil is watching...😁
With electrical wire and water pipes sealed in plastic....never cut or remove the plastic....use the plastic to unspool the wire/pipe....and what you dont use stays neatly rolled up in the plastic until next use. Also...if and where possible... Use a heavy upside down t-piece pipe or something and put the spool around/over it to keep the spool in one place while you do the unspooling
Funny you say that because I ordered a new one today and it is orange. The property owner at the clearing job found it and it was all busted up. Oh well...
I worked for a local water utility for a while. Just an FYI, it's never a good idea to use galvanized pipe nipples or connectors of any type. It will be the first piece to fail in that system. Copper or pex will both outlast anything galvanized.
Just go to ur local plumbing whole sale house. Or irrigation type outlet stores have a good selection of this type of stuff. Gotta be willing to go to more than one store if u go to a Lowes Home Depot.
Wow! Isn't that the truth. One stop at a box store doesn't get it, that is for sure. I did price the materials at a plumbing supply and it was considerably higher. So trying to save the customer money was a bit frustrating not being able to get what I needed...
The trencher doea a great job. Much faster than digging it and less mess. Pad worked out great for the house. Mud, mud, mud! It's back again though, rained all day yesterday. So, I'm getting ready to go fishing 🤪😁. Wanna go? Karley might cook our fish in that frying pan! That is assuming a feller can catch one...
I put 1 inch pex from the meter to the house. I sleeved mine with 2 inch pvc pipe. I was afraid of rocks poking my pex. I guess it's ok if i don't do it for my garage that I'm building. 🤔
Hey Mark the 2” pvc sleeve is a great idea for sure. I asked the customer about it and they didn’t want the extra cost. Also, that pen is supposed to be pretty tough stuff… Thanks
The proper water service line would be HDPE to the house. PEX will work, but you wont get nearly as good of flow. and you will want to use different fittings and clamps.
Do you have the electric quick attach or the hydraulic? He have had the worst time with the electric one on the 259 at work but mine at home is the hydraulic coupler. I really like it. Granted I’ve got 300 something hours on mine vs over 4000 hours on the 259 at work.
It is electric. But at the moment it is manual 😁 with the hammer attachment. I have been through two of the electric ones so far. And so far I've refused to spend $1100 bucks on a 3rd one. Sure would like to have it back on though...
@@tristardiggin Ahh, I wonder what the hydraulic set up costs over the electric one. Mine came with it so I don’t know what the upgrade would have cost. Grapple was supposed to be here yesterday but didn’t show. Waiting anxiously!!
Cool, send some pics of the grapple when it comes in. I suppose I will break down and by a new coupler. Maybe with my RU-vid money. Oh yeah, that's right! Not much coming in...😫
Thanks. I was trying to forget about that job. 🤣 Lost it before then though because I kept wanting to use it on that job. Some other comments mentioned the big clearing job a few videos back. I'm going there today to look...
@@tristardiggin They are against code where I’m at and can only be used for emergency repair-If you haven’t had any issues then thats good but i’d recommend doing a sweated fitting they make pex ones that you can sweat a pex adapter onto the copper and then do the crimp-more durable and provides more longevity
Pressure reducer, nah I got over 60lbs at my house... 😂 question for you, do you have a separate hourly rate for yourself from your machine rate for jobs like that or do you just bid the job? I turn down small jobs sometimes because I usually can't justify doing a job for such a low handyman rate unless I have absolutely nothing else going on... It's weird people will pay a plumber, electrician, mechanic, etc... they don't know 100hr but they think you should do it for them for 30hr because you're not technically a plumber, etc ... but you have more equipment and overhead. In there mind they are helping you out with giving you extra small jobs, but they don't understand you can't make equipment payments when you're doing manual labor and the equipment is not being utilized...
I recently have gone up to $1500 per day. That includes machine time and labor time. I charged a little extra on this one because of the addition of the 2 water spigots which took me over the 8 hour day. I generally just take equipment jobs. But occasionally I will do one like this.
@@tristardiggin I gotcha, seems like most people charge by the hr meter on machine time. I told a friend 90hr for d3 dozer which is probably to cheap but he has another friend with a high track d5 that was willing to do some work for 100hr so you know how that goes. I told him any less and it probably wouldn't be worth my time, and he's one of those with 15 different things to do once you're there. I know another guy who runs a 750k lgp Deere for 150 hr. So I guess it just depends on the area and market you're in...
@@tristardiggin crazy, out here in socal with a backhoe getting $1200 a day. You don’t have the rate cutters like we have out here. Mini ex and skid steer are similar out here but no one wants to pay.
Just a suggestion that may help you get your videos pushed out to more people. In your titles put the square footage of the jobs while using the words massive or huge, keep it plain and simple like this. Massive 5000 sq.ft house pad with dozer. Use all caps as well. That will help getting your vids to more people as it triggers the youtube algo to push that vid, otherwise your vids will be sent to basically back storage and the only people who will find your channel will be the ones looking for specific vids. Also another thing that will drive subs your way is say your going to release a vid today at 6pm in your youtube studio on every vid do a premiere with a count down timer, set the premiere to start at 5 and as the timer drops youtubes algo will pick it up and push it out. Iam just making some suggestions, if you already know this iam sorry if I wasted your time . Just trying to help.
This area is where I struggle the most! I dread it on every video. Thumbnails and especially titles, both are very important as you mentioned. I really like the sq footage wording. That sounds catchy, I'm going to try that. Also, i like the idea of the upcoming video mention and premier. So, I'm going to experiment with that too. No worries, I appreciate the tips and always looking for new ways to grow the channel...
Thank you for your Christian words. We are dealt with choices for situations and yours right about choosing the right path and not siding on the path that Satan wants us to choose. God Bless you Matt. You're one of my favorite vlogs. Keep up the great work.
Thank you Steve and I definitely appreciate the support. It always about choosing to follow the Lord no matter what anyone else is doing. God Bless, Sam
Hi, I am in construction business to trying to figure out the prices people charge for this kind of work. What do you charge this customer thank you."?
I generally charge by a daily rate plus materials. Almost never by the entire job. I will be between $1200 and $1500 per day, depending on the work and size of equipment that I use. I do charge extra for travel, depending on how far away the job is. There are some variables to it but that is kind of my standard...
