My neighbor has the 2021 2500 HD Silverado and was having the exact same non starting issue. He had the battery replaced and it didn't resolve the issue. We ran across this video, tested out continuity and the 400 amp buss/fusible link had failed. He was able to track down a buss bar at an area Chevy dealership, picked it up, replaced it and he's now up and running. Thanks for making this video, it sure did save him a ton of money and headache.
That was exactly my problem after I changed the belts and idler pulley on my 2019 GMC Sierra. Almost changed my starter out before I seen your video. Thanks
I saw this video and decided to change my buss bar as well. Easy to change but did not fix it for me. My 2020 suburban starts but hard. The battery is testing fine so I may still end up changing the starter. I really hope that fixes it. Because the fuel pump is next ugh... anyways thanks for this video.
Awesome!!! I got a 2020 GMC Sierra elevation 5.3 and yesterday mines started with the the clicking & slow cranking. Last night the check engine light came on & today no start. Got 12.5v at the battery. I thought about ordering a new starter, but this is making me think.
I have a 2020 I can start it but it dragging like if the battery is low but the battery is good. Could I be having the same issue too. That it could be the bus bar.?
My 2020 silverado keeps draining my battery , I jump started my truck directly from there , And it drains my battery 2-3 days , should I changed the battery distribution engine compartment fuse block ? Probably blow the fuse
Questions brotha my 2020 Silverado 2.7L is now doing the exact same but it started while I was driving and it told me engine power reduced and the engine began to shake so I turned it off and it’s doing this exactly, not wanting to turn on again any recommendations ?
I would take it in, to a dealership and have them update the programming on the ecm. That's the only thing I can think of causing your problem, from my experience.
I also got a smart start device cause I got a DWI some friends are telling me it could be that as well have you had any experience with this interlock device ?
The bus bar is just a plated & stamped piece of copper sheet. The copper path to the various studs narrows down beneath the black plastic to create fusible links. The 400 amp link on his had failed. It must supply the starter motor and there was a short or something that caused the link to fuse. The power to the starter solenoid coil must come from one of the other studs/fusible links as the solenoid still clicked. But the bus bar design is such that once one of the links fails, the entire part must be replaced. It can be tested by checking for battery voltage at the studs or by disconnecting the battery and checking for continuity between the battery connection and the studs etc. that are supplied. You could possibly jumper across a failed link for testing purposes only but that's rather risky on a 400 amp circuit. Unless the link failed from corrosion, not evident here, a short that caused a 400 amp fuse to fail is a serious issue. I'm surprised that replacing the bus bar was enough to solve the problem but if it works, it works. P.S. It would be interesting to remove the black plastic from a failed bus bar to see just what the fusible links look like.
I got a 22 Colorado.. 3.6 v6 I changed the starter.. It was involed in a front accident.. I only got a clicking noise.. Still not turning over.. Any ideas?
Could I try to jump the 450 amps fues using a thick gauge wire to probe the fuse is the problem, and make sure the starter is working? or, will bew too risky?
Was this a long term fix? My truck has been doing this intermittently for 2-3 months. It is also difficult to get these parts. Indefinite back order online and at dealers
Question. I used my key fob to unlock my 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 today and all the exterior and interior lights turned on like normal and truck unlocked. I sit down in drivers seat, put my foot on brake and pressed Start/Stop button to turn on the truck. As soon as I did this my truck shutoff and all lights went off. I can’t lock my doors and I can’t do anything with it. I know for sure the battery isn’t dead, dealership tested this on their 172 Point Inspection 12.3 volts was on paperwork and I also know it’s not the battery because the lights would have never turned on and doors wouldn’t have unlocked for me first thing…. What do you think my problem may be?
There's a special pocket in the center console. Try putting your transmitter in the center console pocket and start your truck normally, by pressing the brake and button on the dash. If it starts, the transmitter battery is dead. If it doesn't start, test the battery again.
@@showmemechanics this is frustrating. I just purchased this CPO truck less than a week ago with only 65K miles. Is this a normal problem? I’m not wanting to take truck anywhere since I know it might not crank for me….
I had the same problem and I changed it to a new one and before starting the truck again it was reading good at 12 then I cranked the truck and went back down to 1 any tips?
I tried this on a 20 sierra and it didn’t work. The plunger extends, but it won’t spin, I couldn’t figure out how to bypass the relay to make it spin. The battery is perfectly fine reading 12.3v and I even had my Noco boost hooked up just to supply more power and it only clicks , from the plunger extending but no spinning ,
If you can hear the plunger extending, then more than likely you need a starter, not the bus bar. The bus bar issue sounds more like when a relay is clicking.
@@showmemechanics dang, okay I thought because the plunger was extension the starter would be okay but it does look like the starter has been replaced before Thanks for the help man!
@@showmemechanicsWhich sound does the plunger make? We just installed a new battery and I get full power to my truck but no crank, not sure if it’s a starter or fuse on top of battery
I got a 2020 Chevrolet blazer 3.6l V6 that was doing the same thing I replaced the bus bar because it had a blow fuse on it also replace the starter and nothing it keeps blowing the same fuse
On a 2020 silverado 1500 it is like low power to start, I checked the starter and the alternator they are good, I installed new battery and is the same problem, no codes, no check engine, this problem was after I gave a jump, do you think could be that plate?., thanks.
Yes, we've ran into that a few times, and even though everything was testing ok, I'd change it, and it would fix the problem. Honestly I don't think the bus bar can hold the necessary amperage for some reason.
Same truck here 2020 Silverado 5.3 High Country. i got the same low power notification, but it seems to only happen when i try to push start it inside the cabin. after i jump it with my battery jumper it seems to run fine even after not being used for a while, but as long as i remote start it the truck seems to start perfectly fine. went to O'Reilly's and they said the starter was bad. but i have constantly had this issue about 3 times a month for the last 3 months. they have also told me the battery was bad but i never changed it due to the remote start actually turning the truck on. today was the test on the battery, alternator, and starter and only the starter failed. again i turned it on and off several times with zero issues to perform the tests needed. Not sure what causes this problem if it starts perfectly fine with remote start
On a 2010, make sure your battery is good. Then make sure connections at the starter are tight and you have 12volts. If you don't have 12volts it's the wire. If 12 volts are present then your starter is bad. On the other hand if it just all of a sudden started happening, test battery, if good, replace starter.
The buss bar has a fuse to each of the wires. Simple continuity from the buss bar to the ring terminal or look for 12Vdc from GND to ring terminal. The Starter fuse was blown for his application. I'd be more interested in what caused the short to open the 400A starter fuse.
Heyy i have 2020 Chevy Silverado LT I got it parked right now at a public parking lot but in trying to get out of there asap. Could someone help me out. It was running good just a couple of hours ago and I tried turning it on just as I always do. Tried cranking it and it just stayed stuck cranking wouldn’t completely turn on . Cranked it the second time it caught on but was struggling to pull thru even tho i tried giving it gas . I switch to neutral see if that made a difference
