1. Don’t sleep without your durag/head covering 2. Focus on your scalp the first months, use tree oil/peppermint oil 3. DON’T SCRATCH YO HAIR 4. Wash it once a month, ideally two if you don’t want it to look rough for the first months. Depends on your hair texture as well . 5. Don’t dye your hair early
@@judgment5861 nothing if anything It’ll lock your hair faster bc when you die your hair it becomes more dead and what are dreads? dead hair combined 😉
@@judgment5861 facts i already had dyed hair before I started my free forms, about a month in i bleached them and a month after that I dyed it black. my locs look way more developed than the average 2 month starter locs
This is my 2nd journey with locz. My first journey lasted 7 years past the middle of my back. I’m on journey 2 at 7 months in. This time I won’t cut them. May I mention, I will be 51 this year.
I started again last October after cutting my old set after 8 years. I definitely won’t be cutting my hair again so I will be taking better care of this set
Iv grown my locs to my shoulders twice now.. All these do’s and don’ts I agree with 100% Damian is amazing he saved my locs the first time and retwisted them 2 more times after that. If you aren’t retwisting your own hair and you have someone else doing it for you PLS PLS PLSSSSS DO NOT LET JUST ANYONE PUT THEIR HANDS ON YOUR LOCS! Iv met a lot of people who have said they can do locs but couldn’t... Ask for a portfolio, verify before they do anything..

I love number 4. I had long beautiful locks and kept them for a long time. I started them when my pops was alive because they represented freedom. I had just went to college and mother didn't want me to have them. So when I moved out it was the first thing I did. My pops was my boxing trainer and loved them. They got long! REALLY long. He passed away in 2008 and a few years later I cut my locks for a fundraiser for a kid that had brain cancer. Long story short, after that ever time I tried to regrow my locks I kept cutting them over and over because then it was about the "style' where as the first time it was "spiritual". During this quarantine I put my locks back in... But this time it feels different. I'm ok with the 'rough' look because I feel my locks are a spiritual representation of my new knowledge... My "North Star" so to speak is closer to when I first had my locks rather than the image of it. Thank you for the great advice!!
Bro I’m so appreciative of your story and your willingness to share here. Hearing you cut your Locs for a kid with cancer is just so inspiring man! For humanity!! Gives me hope in the good of mankind. I’m sure your father was proude of the decision as well. ✊🏾Grateful for your support king! You got them hands tooo hahaha Boxing is on my to do list! I wanna learn...just don’t know if I’m coo with getting hit in the face lol
@@TPlocks bless brother. Thank you. It was a fundraiser for the kids at the Boys and Girls club lol all of us staff members offered to do something crazy for the kids for earning the most money in a milk jug. When I offered to cut my dreads...(my kids knew how much they meant to me) even parents lined up to donate haha. Thank you! It's been a long time since I have had the privilege of sharing! THANK YOU!! I feel what you mean though lol. Getting hit isn't the best. But, I'm sure a good coach would keep you from getting touched! Blessings and thanks for the amazing advice! Be blessed!!
i cant lie, youre one of the best loc teachers ive seen on youtube because you get right to the point of the question, no extra talk trying to fill content, its jus straight knowledge and cut.
quarantine had me starting my locs yesterday, hopefully they’ll be locd up when school start in august edit: currently 6 months in! nice to see all yall gettin locs too, i love it so far 🔥
It’s a great time to start!! If you’ve got a curly hair texture, that should be more than enough time to be locked! They may not be fully mature, but you should be able to wash and go no problem!
Facts my nigga i just got my hair first twisted yesterday cant wait till September niggas finna be like, TF🤣 lol females finna be comin left an right bruhbrih trust, aint like they already dont anyway🤔
Thank you so much for the tips. I start my locs tomorrow . I’ve been natural for 5 years but wear tons of protective styles. I’m on a new journey and super excited.
Welcome to the loc family! 🔥🔥 5 years natural deserves high praise!! Getting your Locs is an exciting time!!! Take plenty of pictures!!! You’ll enjoy this journey for sure! ✊🏾
When I first started my dreads no one told me about this, my head itched so bad 😭 but it got better. This will be my 4th year with them and I love them. I use tree oil to help with this
I started my locs back in March sitting between my mama’s legs - at my big ass age of 20 - while she two strand twisted my hair 😂 no specific parting, no specific plan..just intuition. enjoying the journey though. it’s a roller coaster
Great information, coming from a licensed cosmetologist, loc enthusiast, and going thru my own loc journey! I would add using a leave-in conditioner, or a spray conditioner, instead of a cream to help prevent the locs from slipping. Also, if you do have a hard time remembering your scarf at night is opting for a satin pillowcase. i started my locs on Jan 9
I'm officially two weeks into my loc journey. I did the instant loc method with the crochet needle all by myself within hours and it has turned out great so far. I hope the rest of my loc journey goes well. Pray for me lol 🙏🏾♥️😄 Also, thank you for all the helpful tips and stay blessed 💪🏾♥️👍🏾💯
I'm mad, who are the people who gives thumbs down 😤. With that said... Thanks man!!! You are giving me life with your tips and you are very entertaining and easy to listen.
I’m glad I could help bro! As for the dislikes it’s all apart of the game! I want folks to rock with me BUT I can’t stress on the ones who don’t! All my care is saved up for the people who show love! Thanks for supporting the channel!!! 🙏🏾
Great delivery!!!! I didn't know what to expect. When you said "Don't number one" I ran to get my pen and note pad this is gonna be important. I'm on day three of my loc journey. Thanks for the North Star statement. I can keep my why front and center. Keep the videos coming. God bless!
I started Oct 15th 2020 with 2 strand twist, I sprayed way too much rosewater & glycerin. Last week on the 17th I started over with starter locs. I know now to keep my hands out of my hair & just worry about the scalp. I love your videos! ❤
I locd up because I got tired of being so synthetic.... the pressure of having to be "beautiful" in a synthetic way... I am beautiful with these naps popping I did cheat though I got extensions buy hey im not perfect 🤷🏽♀️😂 esthetics at work are still a thing. I wish youtube let u upload pics in the comments.
@Emmanuel Bacher well it sure does take a whole lot of bad energy to call someone who you don't even know an idiot for exercising their right to do whatever they want to THEIR own hair just saying 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
I don’t want to spoil the story but in the end he cuts his locs because he develops alopecia. 😅His family continues to grow. He leaves this apartment to purchase his first home. His wife gets him signed to a modeling agency. He books a family job with Google for the pixel 8. @TPlocks - First, I recently found your video series and I am grateful for them. I’m a few days away from starting my loc journey. I have longer hair to start with, I have a loctician I trust. The key takeaway from this video is having a Northstar and it’s something I’m reflecting on. I’ve been growing my hair out since the beginning of 2019, so my patience with a process is well-established, but maintaining it has been my challenge and as I type this out, attaining a new level of patience, or better said self-patience may very well be my Northstar. Growing out my hair was my rebelliousness. Getting it loced is self-care. I was sorry to come across your profile to discover your struggle. Life throws us curveballs; how we pivot is equally as important as how we take care of ourselves. Be well, stay humbled and keep pressing on.
I've felt at peace with the change for a while now. Truly. I'm still very grateful for all the things God's blessed me with. Shockingly, I'm enjoying the new look too! 5 years with locs prepared me for this! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😁@@bcahl25
Thank you so much brother! This was so helpful. New dreadlock tribe started on jun 21 2024. Its only been a couple of days and ive been sleeping with my loc cap and my loctician told me to use small amouns of tea tree oils or peppermint like you said. But i really am doing this because of my spiritual faith of 7 years now. My north star is looking more like my scandanavian brothers and sisters. I am so honored and humbled that spirit chose this path for me. 😅 and damn do i look good. Almost like that new infant born baby coning outta that womb. The push was kina gross but when you put those locks in your fingers and not at the roots. I feel like its a hair garden. Gotta give the garden your nutrients when your gutt tell you too while the beginning days for me. Its saying leave me alone. So night caps and leaving them alone while the roots lock in. Love this video so much. 🎉
HI THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ADVICE🙏🏽GOT MY FIRST LOCKS AT THE AGE OF 57. IT IS SCARY BUT EXCITING AT THE SAME TIME…ITS BEEN A SLOW PROCESS, I HAVE BEEN NATURAL( SHORT CUTS) FOR SEVERAL YEARS & NOW THIS. YOUR ADVICE WAS NOT ONLY GOOD BUT WISE TOO…I SHALL TAKE PICS & KNOW WHAT TO DO/AND NOT TO DO. THANK YOU SO MUCH FROM THE UK❤️🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️
Welcome to the loc family! 🔥🔥 and I’m glad you’re settling in to that love for them. Embrace every change with love and you’ll enjoy every step of the Journey. 🔥🔥
Started my loc journey 2 weeks ago. You are the first person I decided to follow! My take away are dont itch...one spot has been driving me crazy lately. Most importantly I love the find your north star point! Thanks a lot, and I will make sure to take pics.
Two months into my second set and it's way more pleasant than the first time around. My scalp was acting ALL the way up on my first set. Flakes would pop up three days after a wash. Not anymore though, and I haven't changed anything. It's weird, but it is what it is.
I’ve been scratching like crazy. Lol 3 weeks in. It’s gonna be so hard to loc my hair because I don’t have the texture. My hair is more of a wave then a kink so I’m looking like a wild woman right now. I compare it to me growing into who I want to be. It starts out rough but eventually turns into something beautiful. Another awakening. Another transformation into another part of the journey. Can’t wait to see how they will look a year from now. Great video! I subscribed. 💙
I started a month ago. This was helpful because I panicked a week ago cause my hair looked like it was coming undone. But my Loctician told me to trust the process and my hair was ok.
I’m glad this is out, since covid -19 I figured to finally get locs bc my loose natural hair is so much maintenance for me. I’m getting my starter locs tomorrow so I’m excited for my journey.
I'm glad I clicked on this channel. it's amazingly detailed. this is my second month and I just relocked today. gosh, I dyed my hair same day I loc'd my hair. I wish I didn't though. now I know better. I wash once a month and condition once a month. you rock💓
I had locs for 10 years; I cut them when they dropped below my waist. I started with two months of growth. I started and maintained my locs by myself. People often stopped me in public and complimented my locs and/or asked who my loctition was. I formulated my own oil and mixed my own shampoo concoction. I washed my hair once every three weeks; I didn’t use conditioner because it causes buildup-causing mold. I never wore a durag-NOT ONCE!
To be honest, my mom had put Locs into my hair when I was 7 and at the time my hair was pretty long already and was slightly past my shoulders. And by the time I had cut them, they were near my butt and literally I had them in for like 3 or 4 years. And now that I'm 14 I miss my Locs, even though being able to brush through my hair was pretty cool, I feel like I need my locs back because I just miss them so much. So thank you SOOO much for this video because I had no idea what to do. 😁
Will be getting my twa locked tomorrow after going bald for three years now. These tips helped. I have bonnets but no durags, so mext video to watch is your durag vs bonnet video. Can't wait to see how this goes for the next one year ❤ P.s, i was going bald by choice cause I got tired of my hair not growing after years of treating it horribly and it needed a fresh start
Started my second set 8-23-24 my first set was over 10 years ago 2009 bigget lessons I learned is to ALWAYS cover your head before you go to bed it’s essential honestly
i started my locs about 3 weeks ago. i haven’t washed it yet but i’m about to soon. i gave a habit of touching my head but not scratching. at first i hated the frizz but i love it now!
I’ve been contemplating getting locs. I did for lox hair styles previously and I really loved how it looked. Now I am officially ready to loc my hair plus I’m tired of doing my natural hair every morning. I don’t got time for that lol.
This is probably one of the best videos I've seen since starting my journey. I'm about 4 months in my journey. Trying to learn how to do my retwist myself so I can save some money lol. I'm so nervous.
pstreet3 welcome to the loc family! It try to keep the posts consistent on my channel and I’m always around so if you ever have any question feel free to reach out! ✊🏾😊
Welcome to the loc family! Don’t be scared. Each day you get through is a day you got stronger. No matter what happens just know you’ve got an entire community going through it right along side ya! ✊🏾
Thanks for the info, I refuse to get a haircut during this public health issue. My hair has been growing since February. So, now it a good time to plan for locs.
I’m going on 4 years locked but great video. I tell people all the time to stay away from the dyes and also WASH YOUR HAIR. You DO NOT have to Retwist with every wash. 🤦🏽♀️ They don’t listen. I was a product junkie with my loose natural hair but with Locs less is more.
Greedy Bedies LoveLeighLocs man!!!! I’m not gonna even lie I was one of them ones that didn’t listen! I made alllll the mistakes. Luckily my hair was strong enough to withstand it all and allow me to learn so I could try to help others haha. People gon learn how they learn though...it’s usually the hard way! 😂
TP locks Possibly. You know you’re keeping it real when you get that thumbs down 😂 It could also just be a hater. Just think of it as another 👍🏾 because you made h*ll out of this video and everybody knows it 🙂
