reliving the moments of 'failure' and waking up in panic is very relatable, but it also brings back the biased judging during the badge trials. Ben always just Barry the benefit and cuts Mike no slack at all. I hope they had fun and actually came up with the ideas for concept and presentation themselves and didn't rely on the food team. @karlnielsen5759
@karlnielsen5759 8 месяцев назад
Starting Mike down by 10 minutes was a serious handicap and it showed in the final scores too I feel like that as a bit unfair. I suppose the intent was to push Mike to try and do more in less time, but I feel like if you are going to handicap anyone, start Barry and Jamie 5 minutes after Mike because Mike is in last place and the other two are tied for first. I really hope Mike won't be starting 10 minutes behind in all 3 sections of this final battle. If so, I don't think Mike has a chance of winning since he won't be able to accomplish anything nearly as complex as the other two.
@henrybrice86
@henrybrice86 7 месяцев назад
10 minutes will be a smaller percentage of overall time for the other dishes, so it would, relatively, be a smaller handicap. And Mike lost points for two main reasons - not enough salt & acid, and using hard focaccia thins instead of soft bread. I don't think 10 minutes more would have given him time to bake a focaccia (maybe, I could be wrong), so it all came down to seasoning and ingredients.

I'm slightly concerned for Mike because I feel the ten minute time penalty is a smidge too harsh. I think 5 minutes is reasonable, but I worry that his potential will be missed because he has that time pressure against him and mentally it will throw him off his focus.

I agree. I know it's a sort of contest, but it feels a bit too much. The idea is testing them against one another but it's not really a fair test when one person (and it's the person who is theoretically already the "worst") only has 2/3 of the cooking time.
@Sunny-ot1vo
@Sunny-ot1vo 7 месяцев назад
I feel in a contest it was dumb. I honestly thought he was sitting out because they wanted to give Barry and Jamie room and then he'd go by himself. Then I thought it was odd cause they normally all go individually. When I figured it was a penalty I was like... really?

I think it's the right idea to have some form of consequence for the leaderboard leading up to the finale, but I'm not sure time was the right one. If you guys continue this format in the future, I think it risks the loser losing even more by taking away something as critical as time from them. It'd be better to give the leader an opportunity they can try to leverage, like getting to pick an extra premium ingredient or something like that.

I'm glad this series is finally getting a nice wrap-up, and I love the fact that you've brought back these three chefs, but giving Mike a 10-minute penalty is such a terrible idea. The reason I'm against it so much is that it really makes it feel like there was no plan for the badges and that the penalty was incorporated just to give the badges meaning. This is like a teacher saying to a student, "hey, you did worse than the other students on all of the practice assignments, so you get 10 fewer minutes on the final exam." It just doesn't make sense because now it's not a fair competition. I sincerely hope Mike doesn't have a 10 minute penalty in all three rounds...
@lunarazure9969
@lunarazure9969 8 месяцев назад
For a video touting itself as the big finale of the chef skills badge challenge, it felt more like a usual video where they just told the normals to go make a 3 course meal, except now there are 3 pro chefs grading them instead of Ben. I was expecting a grand "let's test you on all the badges you've collected and see what skills you've learned and internalized" sort of finale instead of what basically ended up as "I made this really good dish a while back, I'm gonna do that again but a little different." Especially when a ton of the chef skills were for things like budgeting, time management, multitasking, efficiency, ect.

Mandolins should come with a 'finger guard'. It's ridiculous for a normal not to use one - especially on very small things like radishes. At the very least, it's showing poor form for everyone watching. It's not even a hack to use it - it's a safety issue and an integral part of mandolin use. Far too many people seriously injure themselves on mandolins because they don't use the finger guards - the food team is again making Jamie's life harder for no reason. Chefs may not use the finger guard, but all normals should!

@@chandrawong449I disagree slightly in that I find the hand guards so awkward that I feel either less safe using them or like they mess up the cuts, depending on design. I assume the thinking is that the previous challenges should have some impact on the finale, because if it all hinges on how they do in the finale, then people may be wondering about the point of the badges. From the chef's comments I didn't expect the scores to be quite so close. I think they all did great, and especially Mike considering he had 10 minutes less. As they chef's said, I think if he's used some focaccia or ciabatta then it would've made a big difference, I think! But well done to all three guys!

I was confused because the bread crumbs were meant to be the "bread" of the bruschetta. Why did he put those hard crackers on the plate?

Yeah, Barry seemed like the clear winner based on comments, but Philli's scoring kept things close.

@@johchadow yeah her scoring was kind of a joke just like all her comments were, she was just following the other judges and even went back on things she previously said

Wow! These guys are bringing their A game for the final! Everything looked so good! I would love to get all these dishes as the first 3 courses of a 9 course meal; Jamie and Barry's dishes being a little bit smaller and Mike's dish as is! Can't wait until the main course competition!

Why would Barry take the penalty? He had the same number of badges as Jamie.
