Good for another 40 years. That was easy. I recently changed the headgasket on an OM314 (old mercedes diesel) and the engine also didn‘t wanted to start, lots of drama, I thought I did something wrong (and I removed the air of the fuel system). There was simply air in the system, they have huge filter and it takes a while until the lines all are filled.
Ich finde das schon krass, in welch einfachen Bausteinen so alte Motoren zusammengestellt sind. Im Beispiel vom Video konnte man alles per Hand ausbauen bzw. einbauen. Heutzutage schafft man es gefühlt nicht mehr ein Ölwechsel zu machen 😅

Ja, heute braucht man selbst für einen Ölwechsel einen Meisteringenieur, und er muss sich sogar mit Softwareentwicklung auskennen, da es voll von Elektronik sein wird

Also, he gave up a few times just as it started to catch...these cars may do a "rolling start" where some cylinders catch but others don't, so you have to keep on the starter a little longer, using the cylinders that are firing for help, until they eventually all fire. Need either a more powerful battery or a battery booster that connects to wall power.
Diesel engines are also IC engines. However, in Diesel engines, there is no carburetor. Only air is compressed to much higher pressures and the fuel is injected into the compressed air. As the fuel and air are mixed, the fuel evaporates and ignites (hence called compression ignition).
yeah right since the 1890s they were fuel injected carb was in gas vehciles until the 90s but MB was using injectors since the 80s and some other manufactuers even from the 50s and 60s
Diesel Engines were always mechanically fuel injected never carburatted and Mercedes Benz is using fuel injection even in gasolines engines for over 100 years
Next time use a Battery with higher crank-amps, use the handpump for the diesel, give it some revs.and get rid of the old Hood isolation in the enginebay so IT wont sucked into the engine or get in the manifold paste
when you are starting a Diesel that has been sitting and you are sure the timing is good; do hold the throttle to the floor all the time you are cranking. Especially in cold weather
@@recycleman975 All 240's in the US were from the early 70's as D models. Ain't you never worked on one a dem? The 220SE was gas injected. You will see a D in the title line above and that goes along with how the motor came to life in this vid. Toldyaso

Einen Diesel muß man entlüften bevor man überhaupt versucht den zu starten 🙈 Dazu gibt es extra eine Handpumpe an den Motoren…. Es tut schon weh wenn das gemurkse mit ansieht.
was glaubst du für was die Handpumpe an der Einspritzpumpe ist ? Brauchst da kein filter abmachen und vor allem 90AH Batterie ! Und warum Glühst du nicht vor ???

Zweitaktgemisch in Luft ein verbrennungsfähiges Kraftstoff-Luft-Gemisch, das in den oder die Brennräume des Verbrennungsmotors geleitet wird. Im Vergaser befindet sich auch das Drosselorgan (Drosselklappe oder -schieber), mit der das Drehmoment und damit die Leistung des Motors eingestellt wird.

What a clown... With these old engines you have to give full throttle when starting and when it starts, you immediately take back some throttle. In addition, you start bleeding at the filter and then the injection pump and then you almost never have to undo the injector lines. And use your manual lift pump.. It's there for a reason. Oh and cycle your glowplugs, that might also help

@@oilstovesandmore hi 4x4 Thanks for the reply,I love those cars,I have a 1977 w123 300d,a1981 w123 230e, a 1976 w116 280E and a 1978 w116 280SE,the old diesels are so slow but full of character my favourite to drive is the 230E,but what I enjoy most is working on them,just love the engineering

carburettor looks nothing like this carb is below the airbox in older mostly in cheap Japanese Gasoline engines in the 80s Mercedes is using fuel injection even in Gasoline engines for almost 100 years
@@recycleman975 maybe you should change your RU-vid name in Carburator Billy or something like that. This engine has no carburator because it's a DIESEL. an OM616 240diesel. OM stands for OEL MOTOR. Which is oil motor. Diesel oil. I see your comments everywhere about you saying this is a gas/petrol engine with a hugh carburator you claim to have seen somewhere on this engine. But it's not! It's a D I E S E L! OR DID YOU SEE ANY SPARKPLUGS????
