Brilliant cars. My brother had MK1 1995 2.0 petrol. Had 176,000 miles on it when he sold it to a friend. Still original engine, box, clutch, etc no rust. Biggest thing he ever replaced was air mass sensor. Car just never went wrong and only needed cheap, consumable parts now and again - tyres, exhaust, wipers, etc. I see the car in video has 225,000 miles. These cars run and run.
Had one of these over here in Canada, 325000km on it. Called a Contour here, 2.0 ztec gas engine. Most were automatic here. Mine was too. 1997 4 door sedan same red colour. Had converted it to push button start as the wiring harness went rotten and the key would not start it anymore. Passed the wires through the block off where the clutch stuff would have passed through the firewall. The impeller fell of the water pump killing the car on a 37c day. Also blew a rear brake line at the same time. Both from the record heat that day. Poor car was doomed that day. Was not worth fixing it anymore, massive amount of rust holes. Needed another engine. Loved that car.
@@michals547 Sounds more like a rod knock to me. You can tell by how the volume of the knocking got higher when filming under the car close to oil pan.
@@blwin2 it's a problem with an element called connection rods, that are placed under the crankshaft. They tend to get used up and pretty much start to rattle around after either an extended period of using the car without proper maintenance, or just due to high mileage. They can be replaced, although it's really a hassle when you have to do it, and it can cost you quite a bit, as you pretty much need to get all of the lower engine stripped out
My family had this exact same gen and version, but with a 2.0 engine instead. It was a pretty decent car but was pretty problematic, used to break down all of the time, at one point we even had to replace the whole engine. We sold it some years ago and god only knows how is it now, it might even be in the same condition as the mondeo in this video XD
Would love to get my hands on one of these. My dad had a 1.8 estate 1994 vintage. Superb car for the most part, i miss it. Clutch in these was a little weak for the job. These fords like to rust and my dads had electrical gremlins towards the end. Ford really knocked it out of the park in the 90's with the Mondeo and the Focus.
@@catrevenger Bosnia and Herzegovina, wages here are low compared to western european countries and average people here mostly believe german car manufacturers and search for the best value when buying car bcoz they will drive it for a long time. Ford focus mk1 especially 1.8 tddi engine was among those reliable cars and when you see that certain car is present a lot in the streets here you can be sure it proved itself and earned people's trust.
@@AlmeydaTV, zdravo druze, to je sve istina sto si napisao! Isto sam ziveo u Iztocnoj Europi. I mi verujeme da sa nemackih auta dobri. Ali ja mislim da sa stari nemackih auta dobri. Sada je drugo... Sada svaki hoce da ti napravi auto, koje da ga vozis do garancija, posle da ga bacis na skrap. Imam Mondeo MK2 1.6 Zetek 1996. Made in Belgium. Mislim da go prodadem nekogo kolko da go vozi. Ni me interesirat pari tolko, kolko nekoj da go zeme da go polzva. Pozdravi!
Mine is on 200 000km :) So, i still have time to 350 000km :) Yeah! The engine is amazing! Last spring i drive with 180km/h on the motorway with no problem! And my Mondeo is the same estate ;)
I have had 5 ford mondeos all diesel in my time very good cars great to drive ford cars one of the best company's in the world big seilling vehicles 😀😀
@@tylert6573 I really hope that you are right. However, the sound the engine makes (cranking/similar to diesel sound) tells me that there may be a problem smooth the crankshaft... do you think that engine sound is normal??
@@TheKingArabia My.freind I apologise, I do hear this noise now after I listen again, it sound like big end bearings are making noise, maybe oil is to thick but too.late
My family has Mondeo Mk1 or Mk2 year 1998 with 450 thousand kilometres with 2.0 Zetec engine and starts every morning at -20 celsius, makes 132hp from factory Very good engines
That sounds like a diesel because the lifters are knocking. I would recommend running seafoam through the entire system. In the gas tank, in the crankcase, and through the intake system and vacuum systems.
I've had 1998 Mondeo saloon of the same color but with 1.8 Zetec-E engine. The most loud sound under the bonnet were the injectors clicking, that's how quiet the engine was.
My dad had one of these left it at Manchester airport for 2 weeks when we went to Florida in November 2010 started up first time it was like -10 at the time aswell
Ouch. That’s a heck of a lot of rust. Hope you’re good with an arc welder. Hint: You must disconnect the battery cables otherwise you’ll sod up the electrical systems in your car.
Sa oled ju eestlane! :D väga lahe video vaatasin eelmist ka juba, see oleks tore kui sa teeksid video kuidas sa vahetad kõik katkised osad ära sellel Mondeol.
I have one better, starting a Mondeo st200 after 7 years. driving it after 10 years of it sitting around. I really should make a proper video out of it
