You know what would of been cool?, when you were filling the tank if you actually left the bucket in the and slowly as the water levels rose over the top for the fish to naturally start swimming up and exploring the new space :D

same here lol and the water would kind of adjust in the bucket aswell as the water level rises!
@hadawaco
@hadawaco 8 лет назад
that was his intention, but he cut the video,I assume he realised that the bucket would not fill up and it would just float, also the slow submerging he was doing was alot better for the fish.
@natsudragneellucyheartfili2173
There was water in thr bucket and 200 cat fish so assuming that it wouldn't float I think this wouldve a good idea

Thays funny. I was thinking about the same thing and I was hoping we would do that. It would've been really interesting seeing the water overflow into the smaller bucket and watching the fish swim out.

As an advice I'd suggest you to acclimatize the fish in this new water condition by slowly putting some tank water inside the bucket during a 30min lapse. This way fish you will not suffer from rapid changes in ph, gh and temperature. By doing so you will not deal with stressed fish that may die due to diseases like you may have spotted in one among the catfishes. We usualy practice that while introducing new fish to aquariums.
@lifeinthailand
@lifeinthailand 7 лет назад
I basically did that but remember these are not aquarium fish, these are very strong catfish.

when feeding fish.. you should underfeed them first ... and increase slightly as you learn. You run less risk of waste.. waste food is really bad as it contaminates the water. Underfeeding the fish isn't nearly as bad as you'd think.. it only slows the growth rate.

Nice farm! I have reared many fish and one misconception that many people don't realize is that water oxygenation actually occurs at the water surface. Bubbling with an air-stone or whatever doesn't make much difference, the trick is just to make sure there is enough surface area to allow the gas to diffuse into the water - a wide barrel such as this in an area where there's a bit of wind (surface agitation encourages gas diffusion) should be more than adequate (for fish these size).
@Vector_Ze
@Vector_Ze 8 лет назад
+Tristan Janse van Rensburg Agreed. But, circulating the water benefits the tank by bringing lower oxygen water from below up to the surface, where it can have oxygen dissolved in it. i.e., stagnant water occupied by air breathers will probably have lower levels of oxygen the further from the surface you go. That is the primary reason to use air stones, to circulate the water. I'm not a fish farmer though. It's just basic High School biology, and what I'd learned by keeping tropical fish in a large tank. Green aquatic plants also help oxygenate the water.
@RosalynWindham
@RosalynWindham 8 лет назад
+smart451cab isn't there natural movement already circulating the water?
@Vector_Ze
@Vector_Ze 8 лет назад
Rosalyn Windham Sure, there is some convection, and probably even more from the movement of the fish. But, streams of bubbling air far outdo either of those. That's why they're frequently used in aquariums.
@Vector_Ze
@Vector_Ze 8 лет назад
Tarragon Mugwort This I realize. Many Moons ago, when I was a youngun, I did an experiment along those lines. I used a small mouth quart jar: in went water, a mosquito fish (looks like a guppy) and a healthy sprig of elodea. Tightly sealed the jar and kept it where it received good daylight. That was something like 50 years ago and I don't recall exactly how long the experiment ran. I do remember being impressed by the duration though. In the end, the poor fish probably died of starvation, even though there was some food available from the plant. In spite of their name, their preferred diet is algae and plankton.

Bio filtration is necessary. They have gills to breathe under water but have primitive lung that allows them to live in poor water conditions like a place like Thailand where there are wet and dry seasons the bladder or lung are used in those conditions. Continuing coming to the surface to gulp air means the water condition is less than optimum.
@anomalocarisgaming8205
@anomalocarisgaming8205 8 лет назад
They seemed to do pretty well in his other videos, a while ago he showed a small harvest where he cooked and ate a few. One was over a foot long, sounds pretty healthy to me...
@Jstroman221
@Jstroman221 8 лет назад
***** healthyand optimum health are not one in the same, the same fish with optimum filtration including biologicalthat same fish could have been larger. Even in the wild with wet and dry seasons there is always a form of biological filtration.
@anomalocarisgaming8205
@anomalocarisgaming8205 8 лет назад
Jason Stroman They're food, not pets. As long as they're alive and growing, why should it matter if their health is optimum?
@Jstroman221
@Jstroman221 8 лет назад
***** Did you think about that comment before you wrote it, you could not have? Come by my house I have a free range cow from Russia that has grazed in Chernoybl fall out, yum yum. Disregard it's third eye it's only a birth defect, I've been told it taste great.
@anomalocarisgaming8205
@anomalocarisgaming8205 8 лет назад
Jason Stroman comparing a cow to a fish is preposterous. Fish are far more basic animals, living entirely off instinct, Cows, while still stupid, are far easier to empathize with, mistreating an animal like that would be upsetting to me, as it would be to any logical human being. To claim that a cow living in Chernobyl would have a third eye is also ridiculous, There's a documentary showing how wolves and other fauna live in the area around Chernobyl, none of them were ever shown to be deformed. Google "Chernobyl wolves documentary" if you don't believe me. The poster of this video also discusses how these fish are designed to live in hostile conditions, if you watch his later videos he shows the catfish reaching lengths of over a foot. The fish are obviously thriving in their current conditions.

That growing bucket looks way too small brother. Fish tend to grow in relation to their environment so small bucket small fish.

Tod allard, it is probably OK with the dog food. They do need air bubbles, though. And I would say go to a bait store and getting 4 dozen night crawlers/worms and put them in the tank. That's how they will really thrive and stay healthy.
@emilyswan9446
@emilyswan9446 5 лет назад
Although they can breathe the air in less than perfect water, providing oxygen in the water will help them to grow faster and larger, improve cell structure and provide you with a healthier fish stock. They have gills as well as their lungs. Please consider even a small airstone, you could see bigger changes than you think. I know I do in the fish I raise and breed.
@lifeinthailand
@lifeinthailand 5 лет назад
I added air to my tanks last year, I have seen no difference in the growth rate or health of the fish, but the air does keep the water moving and that gives them something to do, swim against the current is they want to. I have raised more than 10,000 fish at this point.

i often hang a bug zapper over mine each evening, its kills alot of bugs to feed the fish. variety in diet seems to grow healthier fish that fight each other less (less commonly a problem with catfish). putting something in the water for them to hide in is good too. they naturally hang out in holes and dens. thats why your fish tend to just fall asleep like that. catfish are pretty lazy. but cool set up!

yeah when transfering fish you want to make sure that the water in both containers is as close to the same temp as possible or you will shock their system and could get a lot of deaths from it.
