PLEASE NOTE: This is not a tech channel, but simply a show-and-tell. It is not designed to give advice and support on vacuum tube amplifiers but to show what I get up to each week in the workshop.
I deliberately keep tech talk to a minimum, or at least to a point where it’s understandable to the casual viewer. There are other channels more suited to that level of detail.
I do not do reviews, either paid or unpaid. My opinions are entirely my own and do not represent those of others.

Its very easy to forget a connection, make the wrong connection etc. Even the simplest circuits provide plenty of opportunities to make a mistake.

Speaking of making mistakes, not long ago I was rebuilding the bias board on my 1968 Fender Bassman amp. I installed the new diode in the wrong direction, and had some serious red-plating going on for about 2 minutes, before I smelled and felt the heat, and quickly shut it off. Lesson learned.

Chris, following your comments on concentration and train on thought, You should read the book Stolen Focus. It does talk about social media and “the modern world” but there is some interesting info in it about how the human mind works and the demands that modern living puts on it. I have no affiliation with the author by the way!!! Another great video though!

I have what's called red-green deficient colour-blindness, I can see colours though, I just have trouble differentiating between reds and browns, and greens and oranges, but, I can see shades of blue fine, because of this I always have trouble with resistor colour-codes on resistors, I get round this by using my multimeter to measure the resistor.

I avoid resistor colour band mistakes by not even trying to learn the code (If I’m looking up an unknown in a circuit without lifting a leg, I get the chart out, but it’s in one ear out the other). When I’m building or repairing, I check with the multi against the schematic or rough idea of what I’m making. Even if the parts just come out of a labelled drawer or mouser bag.

I've built a couple amps myself, and a few guits as well. I'm better at guits than amps. You can see the guits on my page. So here's my question: What method do you use to determine the outer foil/negative on an unmarked capacitor? Even though some caps are non-polarized, I still would like to make sure they are all in proper orientation to eliminate all possible sources of hum. I do have an oscilloscope, how do I set it up to check capacitor polarity?
