Wow caught your video uploaded 1 minute ago! Haven't even gotten through it yet but I love seeing the familiar Mesa Garden seed packs! I see you have a couple Echinocereus - have you ever seen there are a couple inermis varieties of E. triglochidiatus? They are very cute to grow and kind of buried unless you get into the weeds of looking through all the Echinocereus.
I haven’t! That’s awesome. I will definitely look to try and grow some. Have had great success with ECHINOCEREUS from Mesa! One of my favorites to grow. Sometimes I spend over 30 minutes going thru all the different categories on Mesa! lol.
May I ask how do you manage fungal infections? In my experience seeds are the main vector of introducing the spores of harmful microorganisms. You didn't sterilize the seeds, nor treated the substrate with any kind of fungicide or even hydrogen peroxide (at least I haven't seen it in your video).
I have never sterilized any of my seeds. I don’t know if Mesa does it before selling. Would doubt it. The substrate I do microwave the peat moss for about two minutes. I don’t use any fungicides. Maybe it’s cause I haven’t had a ton of issues. Only problem I’ve had is with white mold on two occasions. If I even see that start I hit it with isopropyl spray right away. I’m interested in learning about seed sterilization though. Always trying to learn! Thank you!🌵🌵💚
@@DLLMCACTUS Some people soak seeds in hydrogen peroxide, but I had better results with soaking them in solution of household bleach and water (50:50) for 20-30 min. For that purpose I put the seeds in coffee filter bags. After soaking it is necessary to rinse the seeds thoroughly in clean water.
I have some 2 month old seedling baggies in a north facing window and they are looking really tall and skinny. Now i’m thinking I should move them to south facing. I just thought they weren’t supposed to get direct sunlight yet?
I have had so much success in south window with open blinds. I had on north side and the got way too skinny. If you don’t have blinds just keep them back from the window a bit. Good luck!!!!! 🌵💚
