Whenever the car has been sitting for a long length of time the gasoline in the carburetor has drained out and the fuel pump then has to refill it to get the engine running. The next time she has been in storage first remove the air cleaner and put a couple tablespoons of gasoline down the throat of the carburetor and she will start right up besides saving your battery and starter. After this, she'll start up easily every time. It's a lot easier than crawling under the car to replace a starter.
Nope. It'll start then stall right back out once those few spoons of gas are burned off. Carbed car needs to be cranked long enough to prime the system. Only the fuel pump can do that.
Of all the carburated gas engine starts ups ive ever seen youtube, THIS IS THE ONLY ONE that iver seen and heard that starter going for like a minute, and STARTING! EVERYBODY always turns the motor over a few seconds then repeats, and repeats.... Of course your '59 is SUPERB!
It's in Sweden, it looks like it's been in storage for the winter, pumping gas wouldn't do shit, als it needs to get sucked up to the fuel pump first...
Wow! Let up on the ignition, pump the pedal a few times. I winced as I thought you're killing the battery and the starter. Take the boot out of the well BEFORE lowering the top. That's why it hung up and didn't go down completely. But. sweet ride. The pinnacle of 50's chrome and fin excess
Should fix that mass 'problem' (Ofcourse it isn't really a problem) for the windows and top, it would look alot more elegant and smooth that way, I have the same going for me for my '68.
Jason S I still care for my parts. Even if the consequences are only going to be noticed 2 or 3 owners after me, I still care for my car and its parts very much. Plus, it won't wear out, it'll straight up burn.
Guy looks and acts like an idiot.....probably has no concept modern gas evaporates out of the carb-bowl after a few days.....and having a squirt-bottle (with gas in it)...would allow that Caddy to start right-up and prime the fuel pump and fill bowl....BAM!....just like that. I've noticed that with my 1974 Coupe Deville...after about 3 days gas is all gone in the bowl....so I keep a little bottle with a nozzle tip.....starts up the 1st time every time :)
I wondered if he was going to hit the rear bumper on the wall due to the overhang when he first started pulling out. It was only when the camera panned around that I saw there was plenty of room.
You even have the lower bumper fog lamps. Are they fog lamps ? Rare and unusual to see. Also that is some nifty parking. Power steering: just the job for a barely big-enough garage. But once you're used to it, love will find a way. Beautiful car, by the way !
+MungoidHen This is in Sweden in Europe. The amber bulbs have been replaced with white ones, since you are not allowed to have amber front parking lights.
sjokomelk =Ha ha, I laughed when I read that. Yes, I know where Sweden is. It is Just up the road from me. I am in Dorset. UK.. You have an EXCELLENT Classic car show over there. Some of the most unusual and desirable classics are in Sweden. CLASSIC response too. No one should have any excuse for not knowing where Sweden is.. Such a beautiful country and full of our brothers and sisters (and Many coool cars, man !) = )
From the thumbnail I almost thought it was that Christiane car as I had just watched a video about someone drag racing a replica. I am intrigued by the car, but honestly I have no intentions of watching that movie. If they do remake it, I hope people don't go around terrorizing others like what happened back when the first IT movie came out🤦🏼♀️ Although a 59 Caddy in these colors would probably make a good Christine if they did remake it. But because of what fans did before IT came out, I don’t want it to happen... (or mostly it because I dislike horror films, I much prefer the horror comedy genre)
OMG you should never turn that starter over for more than 10 seconds ! you're destroying that starter. over heat the fly wheel. you'll learn when you break a flywheel tooth and burn the starter put.
mesela...Demekki bütünü görmemişsin.. Ben hak edene hak ettiğini veririm..... mükafat ise mükafat.. Taktir ise taktir.... demekki o kişi benim hakaret icerikli duygularımı hak etmiş...

Love all the keyboard warriors telling the guy how to start his car. A long crank time on a car like this that's been sitting for a while is the nature of the beast. The engine needs fuel to run. The fuel has to be sucked all the way from the tank up to the carb. The fuel pump is mounted on the engine. No tank mounted electric pump on this old girl.
jim dandy Probably from sitting up for a long time. Carb was dry as a bone and the engine driven fuel pump had to build fuel pressure and fill up the float bowl in the carb. All old cars are like that. The 80's carbureted cars wouldn've cranked as long. Improvements in ignition and fuel control helped a lot by then.
dstarks80 Agreed, no electric fuel pumps then- My Dad had a 59 Olds Fiesta wagon and then a 66 Toronado for many years until the frame rotted away, that was a true beauty and considering its weight had some acceleration- I always loved the old Caddys from the the past as they seemed to be the ultimate in style and class, always in competition with the Lincoln but to me it seemed Cadillac outstyled Lincoln
You have to rewire them for Denmark and Sweden so you have day-light running lights otherwise you would need to run low beam head lights in daylight by law.
