Lucas Arts Games was amazing in my mind. I grew up with an Atari ST1040 and games like Starglider 2 (at pretty low FPS, obviously). Eventually I switched to an IBM PC and no game came even close to it. Then I played X-Wing and Dark Forces and nothing else came close to it. Yes, Doom existed, but it just didn't grab me like Dark Forces did and Wing Commander at the time was still sprite based

Couple of corrections from a SW nerd: Wolf guys from the Cantina stage are actually Defels, not Shistavanen, though both could be seen in the Cantina on the original version of New Hope. Shistavanen(called Lak Sivrak) is the one that talks with the worm like creature, Defel(called Arleil Schous) is the one with glowing red eyes finishing a drink. Both are wolf like alien species, though the Defel in some parts have bat like facial features too and the ability to blend into darkness unlike Shistavanen. Also Labria is the characters name, the race is called devaronian. Kalhar is based on a Mantellian Savrip species.

Good stuff! Amazed at just how much you know about all these games. Kinda like the Bob Villa of NES (and in this case SNES) gaming. Very ponderous, direct, demonstrative tutorials (happily without time lapse) that make these feats look a lot easier than they are. (I’ve struggled through this particular game many times.) Appreciate the work! On a side note, I think it’s worth noting that the Jawas stole R2, making them the aggressors. Luke is merely trying to reclaim the little droid, as he has every right to do. Considering the Jawas are rushing at him whilst chucking thermal detonators, he is well within his rights as a sentient being to fight back. The death count is simply the amount of bloodthirsty Jawas that stand between Luke and his objective. :) Same with the Raiders. Luke is just trying to get from point A to point B, and they are attacking him with murderous intent. What’s he supposed to do? If they were just chill and let him go on his merry way, then I could see taking umbrage with his violence. (Of course it would make for a rather lame video game and force a rebranding of the franchise to “Star Pacifists”.) But let’s face it: the Jedi Mind Trick-messing with another person’s will and thoughts, and compelling them to comply-is about as Dark Side as you can get. Offing a few homicidal denizens pales in comparison. ;)

I'd say the Kalhar Monster (Cantina boss) is THE hardest boss in the game. If you reach him without at least a seeker missile level gun, he's literally impossible to beat. Just pins you to the left and kills you faster than you can kill him. In fact, I think he's still impossible if you power up your gun to the next level past seeker missile (ion?), because then you lose the homing missiles that make it easier to constantly hit him, but you don't gain enough raw damage like the plasma to offset that. Once you make it past him, the rest of the game is so much easier. (holy shit Super Empire Strikes Back was one of the hardest games on SNES. Almost Battletoads level hard)
@UCanBeatVideoGames
@UCanBeatVideoGames 3 года назад
I agree, that guy and the one at end of Escape from Mos Eisley are the hardest boses. Kalhar is especially tough because you can't really power up your gun much if you die on him. I have beaten him on Brave difficulty with the Seeker gun, but just barely. Felt like i got lucky.
@dorpth

Yup. If you reach him with a weaker gun than seeker, you might as well just die and go back.

A funny thing, because of emulation optimizations, the Ps4/Vita re-release is harder than the original SNES or the Wii Virtual Console Emulation. Edit: Also the Ps4/Vita re-release got a nerfed debug mode code inserted because of the "Han shoot first" trophy, and that code (which I wish I could remember how to put it) ONLY enables the free character select part of the debug mode code.

Easy level you have slightly more health and the enemies do less damage, Jedi level you have slightly less health and the enemies do more damage. Easy the timer starts at 500, Brave 400, Jedi 300. If the timer reaches 000, you don't die. Timer starts when the level loads, not when it starts. Timer goes up to 999.

I owned (still do) Empire and RotJ growing up. I have Super Star Wars now but at the time I didn't own it, but it was one of like 15 SNES games my local video rental store had so my friends and I would rent it constantly. I recall beating the Cantina stage ONCE, no idea how I got through the Mos Eisley stage before that, but I think that's as far as I ever got. I also remember getting into a big argument with my best friend at the time because he came over and told me that he beat the game and I absolutely WOULD not believe him because of how insanely difficult the game was. Last time I booted up the game and played it, I couldn't get past the Sandcrawler. I think maybe it was just an issue with my old, worn out SNES controller, but every time I got to the platforming over the lava RIGHT before the boss spawns, I just wasn't able to jump over the gaps. Luke would always land in the lava and it would kill me instantly.

Your guides are really golden. Super Star Wars is probably one of the very few SNES games I (really don't know how) managed to actually beat. It was so hard and I remember that I was really annoyed by the constant enemy popping on the levels, but the gameplay, the art and music were so damn cool. As for the Tuskan raiders, that's interesting. I never doubted about their sentient capability, like to me they appeared as capable of using (crafting?) complex weapons, gears, and tactics which by all means are proofs of their sentience. I believed that they were just a very territorial, overly violent civilization, and let's not forget that they're raiders after all, which means that they set up ambushes for a living, raiding and looting people passing by their land (and they probably would get rid of them too, not in the friendly manner). To me, the TV series misses the point of their existence in the universe, like they make them appear as a honorable culture in some way. But it's alright if Disney wants to go that way with these characters. I just wanted to share my pov about the Tuskan raiders since I haven't seen many fans contradict the vision proposed by Disney.

I agree this game can be challenging even on Easy Mode. But I'm still proud to say I beat this one on Jedi Mode (I also did it with Super Return of the Jedi; Super Empire is pretty much impossible on that difficulty). And on Jedi Mode, you pretty much need to grind for lives on the Sand People level. The Death Star surface battle where you have to destroy TIEs and laser towers is borderline impossible on Jedi. You lose health like sweat (and the health bar is pretty small to begin with). I lost close to 40 lives on that one.

Minor correction - the X, B, B, A, Y cheat code actually gives you 7 continues, not 5 (and 5 is actually the default amount, not 3). You also state this code doesn't stack with other codes, but that seems to be the case will all the game's cheat codes (not just this one). Additionally, if you enter A, B, Y, X, B, B, X, X, Y, it will give you a whopping 15 continues!

I fondly recall renting all 3 Super Star Wars games from the video store, LONG before I actually watched the movies or even knew they were based on them. I was actually fairly let down that the movies didn't play out exactly like the games lol. Thanks for the video. I actually learned what a mouse droid was or what TIE stood for.

I know you are a console focused channel but you do Lucas Arts an injustice by not mentioning all the incredible PC games they made in the 80's and 90's and by stating that Maniac Mansion was made for the NES. The NES version was a port of the PC game and was heavily censored.

Fun fact: There is a PC version of Super Star Wars game. It was never released officially, but studio that developed it leaked the game to the Internet. It has some bugs but it's still possible to finish it (in fact I had). Not sure how many strategies and cheat-codes would work though.

I just watched the Empire Super and it brings back many memories of playing so long ago. This one, Super Star Wars. My brother and I struggled to play for hours the first night. The following night my brother came home and ask right away. How did it take you to get this far? I was like an hour or so. A faction of what it took us switching back and forth to play. lmao. I love all three of these games. Thanks so much for recording these fantastic classics.

Back in 1999 I actually found that Atari Empire Strikes back game, brand new.... a whole shelf of them... at the 99 cent store! I think I might still have one. I didn't have the system to play it on, but the idea of having a star wars atari game for a buck was hard to resist.

I'm sorry but the Episode one game for PSone was good. Rebel assault 2 was good also. They were cheese but they were fun! Especially at their time! RA2 was the closest thing you had to a new SW film. Shadows was amazing like that. It were as if a film were released with that whole wave of SW

Fun fact about the Star Wars lore: The reason Chewy couldn't accept a medal in public is because in Wookie culture, bowing or bending your knee to a human is one of the worst things you can do. I can't remember the exact reasoning, but the short version is it marks you as an apologist of their slavery, the logic behind that it s the exact reason, and it wasn't ended when the trilogy concluded. Chewy was still one of the few free Wookies. He accepted one privately, which she used a stepping stool to put on so he would stay standing straight.

While I don't like Dragon's Lair on the NES, the game is far from cheap. People just don't know how to play it right. At it's core, it's a puzzle game, even if it's presented as a side scroller.

I'll play any of the old SW games, but will NEVER touch any newer games, (The force Unleashed being the exception) since Disney slowly turned it to Sh*t!

First clip during battle of Hoth looked more like N64's Shadows of the Empire, one of my favorite N64 games of all time. Never played Rogue Squadron though.

This one is the hardest, as a kid i couldn't even get past the Sandcrawler. When i was sixteen i beat them all. Btw the most op character is slave Leia, even on Jedi difficulty she's unstoppable. I wish I could play as her throughout the whole trilogy.

“Thanks to the efforts of galon erso” I am offended that you mentioned this noncanon Disney trash into this game predating Disney that has no place in being mentioned at all because this game came out long before Disney retconned the design flaw into deliberate sabotage just cheapens the Rebels efforts in finding just one small weakness and not something that was just handed to them on a silver platter. You have just ruined my enjoyment of this walkthrough video.

Yeah the next two games are definitely not for everybody, I don't think I ever beat them without cheating. Luke's force powers made me feel like I should be using him but I sucked at using force powers

used to have this on the super wild card on the snes, and there was something wrong with the floppy disc. whenever i reached ben kenobi, the game had a 80% chance of freezing. so if the game didnt freeze, i was in it for the long haul. I always loved the stage 'the land of the sand people', jut the scenery and music. I thought that the cantina boss was game brokenly hard on the jedi setting, it was bad enough on easy and brave. Also, when you kill the cantina boss and go far right, you see that garbled looking wall texture behind it - i always wondered what that was all about. Will you do videos like this for Empire and Jedi?
