Same, I've been here about a year, but I have been so inspired by this I (coerced...threatened...) convinced my old 1st ed group to reform, we now play via Zoom. Our old characters are back in action, a homegrown campaign that has been running since the late 80s. Feels good to be rolling again!

Putting this on the top comment so it might actually be seen by someone who cares. Critical Role is starting to feel less and less genuine the longer it goes on. Watching this video it felt like they were keeping to a very tight script and i think i speak for a lot of fans when i say that the thing i like about Critical Role is that it DOESN'T feel like a tv show. More and more with each video it feels like a scripted tv show and I've found myself watching less and less the longer it goes on. I understand you have advertisers to keep happy and that means you have to be careful with what you say but the impromptu charm is starting to go away and so are a lot of your long time original fans. I sincerely hope someone in charge sees this comment and it inspires a change for the better

Seven years ago I sent my son and daughter to a D&D spring break camp. They came home with a players handbook. They ignited my passion for RPGs again. I started playing in June of that year with my son, that is when I learned of CR. Three years later, I had a stroke, in my morphine dreams I played a campaign with CR, and Handbooker Helper was counting my HP, and when it got high enough, I woke up from my coma. I couldn’t walk and talk then. In 4 months time I regained enough of my speech to DM at MegaCon.

@@shalkonon013 That's perfectly fine/ true, but what I mean is, the sheer difference between the smoothness of their improv, vs the stilted, dorky delivery of anything they have to read makes me wonder how the heck anyone truly believes the actual campaign is scripted, not to mention their lack of short term memory, CoughCoughTravisCouchCough, Chaos Gremlin tendencies, and overall video gamer desire to explore the whole map that they have to ruthlessly squash all the time because life and death things are happening lol. 🤣

While they were inside I thought of it as an awesome module to introduce people to the mechanics of D&D. It's a great way to get players facing a variety of monsters, traps, and other challenges. A more or less 'classic' dungeon experience with an interesting story.

it doesn't. my brother wanted to make a business with some friends we grew up with and asked if i would want in on it and i politely had to decline since 2 of his "partners" would just leech off him and i warned him of it. its a fun idea in practice to start something with friends at times but actually doing it can be far worse since everyone tends to try and be the alpha in those situations. i def give them all credit for really working out what works for them though. Critical Role def showed they started from nothing to something by being given a chance :)

It helps that they aren't attached to it fulltime. They all have seperate projects and each has a different role within the company. Most fail because everybody wants to captain the ship but they divided duties among departments and let Travis captain the whole thing

probably helps that only like three of them have a big part in actually running the company, and even then its likely only Travis and Marisha (business and content, respectively). The others sorta just divide duties where they're strongest like producing the show or the merch or the non-profit stuff, and Matt obviously runs the game, week to week. Though, I don't know the insights of their business, so I could also just be way off base

Also helps that they were all professionals in their fields to begin with, so the process of filtering out those who couldn't work well together for some reason or other was _mostly_ (I'mma just spitball... about 8/9ths or so...) done by the time Geek & Sundry picked 'em up as a show.

I was caught up on campaign 2 pretty early on, but I'm having a hard time connecting with C3... prob doesn't help that I wasn't excited EXU characters carried over? Yep, similar. I had just got back from PAX and catching the Acquisitions Inc live show. A friend mentioned that if I liked live DnD shows, I should check out CR. I'd already been into Adventure Time so putting up with early audio was a walk in the park. The rest is... SEVEN amazing years of these guys! 😄

So long story short: My at the time gf was having a smoke outside of the convention center. Going back in, we accidentally run into Matt and Marisha as they were walking out. He apologized and asked how my con was going. Keep in mind I have NO IDEA who he is yet, but I recognize Marisha. He says “oh check out our booth next to the Chessex booth” I said “sure I’ll do that” and that’s how I discovered Critical role!

Immediately started listening to the campaign podcast from C1E1 and I'm already up to the point where the show ended off. Absolutely amazing what you all are able to do when you come together to put a story together. Maybe someday Ill be caught up and be able to watch live

You aren't far behind on campaign three, and don't need to finish one campaign before another... so you might as well catch up on C3 while it's early. I personally have had a harder time connecting with this campaign so far, but I got in on the beginning of the second campaign and adored C2 so much that it might be hard to top. Plus, I didn't really care for EXU, I got through four or five episodes and kinda fizzled out... so I wasn't excited that some of those characters carried over. But a lot of people are enjoying the current campaign, so I'd encourage you to catch up on it now :D

@@NickaLah the best part of all the series is that they all stand a lone. i watched every episode from start since they started with Geek and Sundry but i did feel a bit burnt out after Season 1 so i didn't follow as close in S2. loved some of the characters in S2 but came back and been following S3. But starting with S3 isn't a bad idea :)

Each campaign is relatively standalone so you can start watching C3 now while it's still relatively early if you want. While C1 takes place in Exandria, C2 takes place 20 years after C1 on a completely different continent. And C3 takes place 7 years after C2 on a third continent! While there are some references between campaigns thrown out and about, prior knowledge is not required to start a new campaign.

@@KuMiis I agree, wholeheartedly. Even if they had to change the name for whatever reason, the show could have essentially stayed the same and kept him on. I understand Between the Sheets getting cut after essentially running out of people to interview, but Talks getting cut just seems, to me, as though they wanted to cut the costs of paying a host.

From the description, it doesn't sound like there's a permanent host. Can't say I'm thrilled about the more generic question scope from the audience (most of their example questions were kind of meaningless: I don't care what rationale Travis will use to say Chet is a Dallas Cowboys fan) but we'll see.

In the summer of 2020 I had a big accident and broke my neck. Luckily, my recovery was quick and I was fortunate enough to regain most of my functions. During my recovery I started listening to Campaign One, and I feel like I’ve been on this amazing journey with CR as on my own journey of recovery. Critical Role had helped me in a very difficult time. And even now I continue listening and watching episodes and clips, and obviously TLOVM. Im excited for the coming years. Thanks Critical Role, I fucking adore you and this community. Happy anniversary.

Seven years ago I was married and working as a custodian in my old school system while dealing with some stress-inducing inlaws and family members. Today I'm in a different kind of relationship, I've made friends, lost loved ones, and seperated myself from said stress-filling people. I've been through some rough shit, but I feel I'm in a much better spot now than I was when I first started listening to help curb my panic attacks. Much love all. He said he wasn't happy about it, but they are all a big friend group, and he's engaged to Ashley so it seems like he's accepted their business decision and won't go into any more details than that, because he doesn't want to talk badly about his friends in a public forum, other than to say he wasn't happy about the decision.

Excited to have a talk show back! Sounds like it will be fun, though I am bummed we will be losing the more specific, thoughtful questions for each player. I hope there will be a fan showcase aspect to it like they had Fanart of the Week and Cosplay of the Week. I really miss the fanart reel.

Eh, not impossible. Don’t get me wrong, BWF was excellent, and I really like his interview style, especially from between the sheets. But Dani ran a solid episode of TM and honestly I really liked her too. Her knowledge and love of the characters, and the subtle/not-so-subtle fangirling was really fun. Brian was great, but anyone in the inner circle with good rapport I think would do well.

@@LagunaX1 I wasn’t exactly saying Dani should be the next host. I was just saying Brian isn’t necessarily the end-all, be-all perfect gold standard host who’s impossible to replace. Anyone in that circle could slot in and do a pretty solid job, and so long as the questions are asked and answered that’s all people really want. The only big loss is potentially no more Henry appearances

@@ChargerBulldogs19 I disagree. One of the main reasons I watched talks machina was for Brian’s personality and terrible jokes. It just wouldn’t be the same with someone else hosting it. In my eyes, Brian is to Talks Machina what Matt is to Critical Role.

Even though I've been here for just 8 months my last summer was filled with beautiful memories as I binge watched all of the first 2 campaigns including the live shows and EXU. I had always heard about DnD ,though it isn't really popular where I'm from, and recently finally found a game to join. I am so excited to play DnD for the first time and this excitement comes from all of the build-up of seeing how a game that is played on our minds is like the perfect RPG game that I've been searching for. Here's to another 8 months for me and 7 years for all of us!

The last 7 years have been incredibly difficult for me IRL and one of the few things that's kept me going is Critical Role. Better than therapy IMO though, therapy is still very important.

Thank you for an incredibly life-changing 7 years! Through heart-ache, loss, moving to Japan, got my PhD, went skiing for the first time, and so so much more you guys have been there, a constant source of joy and comfort. I'm currently on episode 14 of Critical Roll (Vox Machina campaign) & I've absolutely loved every moment. I've literally taught over 250 people to play D&D in my 30+ years of gaming & love how y'all've inspired so many people to play! I've always told people WATCHING people play D&D is boring but PLAYING D&D is AWESOME. You guys have proven there's always an exception to the rule. I hope to catch up to what's currently happening with Critical Roll eventually but also kinda hope you keep creating enough content that that's just not possible. lol Thanks for showing the masses what an awesome time D&D is! I'd love to go on but my DM just told us to Roll iniative!

I think even here in the U.S. it was very limited release anyway last time around... granted, I personally don't like they're still encouraging their fans to gather in movie theaters. There are very obvious reasons people are still avoiding them... it's incredibly difficult to pinpoint outbreaks to theaters as well.

Definitely. My favorite part of TM was After Dark, because it was more freeform, and when it went away, I stopped watching if Matt or Liam wasn't involved. This sounds much closer to that atmosphere.

Woohoo! So excited to see more Crown Keepers!! I had a total blast binging the EXU series after being super sad to have Robbie & Dorian part ways with campaign three. Still got my fingers crossed to see him again in campaign three. I may not have been watching CR for the last 7 years but Thursday Night is one of the top highlights of my week, so I can't thank you all enough for all the hard work that goes into the pure joy you create!
