US President Joe Biden flexed American might over China in his State of the Union Address. While he repeated that the US wants competition with China, not conflict, Biden emphasized that the US will "win the competition for the 21st century against China or anyone else." Speaking before a joint session of Congress, Biden said: "We’re standing up against China’s unfair economic practices. And standing up for peace and stability across the Taiwan strait. I’ve revitalized our partnerships and alliances in the Pacific... I’ve made sure that the most advanced American technologies can’t be used in China." Biden's comments come after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi blasted the US for a "bewildering" level of trade curbs. On the sidelines of the National People's Congress in Beijing on Thursday, Wang also noted there had been "some improvements" in the relationship. High-level military communications have resumed and a working group has been set up to curb the flow of fentanyl to the US. But last month, China urged the US to lift sanctions on Chinese companies and individuals. That, along with the tough language heard this week in Beijing and Washington, are all reminders of the tension that remains. CNN's Kristie Lu Stout reports.
