Is it better to have alcohol run by the state or the private sector? This a big debate in the United States, and many states have different opinions on how alcohol should be sold and distributed. We are from Pennsylvania, and we offer up our opinions relating to the topic. Let us know what you currently see in your state and your thoughts about the situation!
Please drink responsibly. This video is intended for people of legal drinking age only!

Great discussion topic Buddies! Ohio is state run, but PA seems to be much more restrictive. I do like that prices are generally lower here, but not being able to get some bourbons is frustrating! It's nice that you kind of have the best of both worlds living on the border. Cheers!

Having NJ by us helps big time! We get a lot of our stock from there. Especially barrel picks. Ohio seems to have a little more options and less restrictions. We would love to come visit one day! Cheers!

Love the setting, and the chat. Since I enjoy finding unusual or dusty bottles and having private stores lends itself to a wider variety and for some stores sitting on inventory for a while then clearing it out. Thanks for sitting down and sharing some thoughts! Cheers!

Much appreciated! Nothing quite like sitting down and talking about whiskey! It is so interesting how different it is around the world. Let alone around each state or province. Thanks for stopping in and watching! Cheers! 🥃

Buddies, I grew up in Va. which is state control, but every state I have lived in since has private stores. Currently live in Indiana where prices on bourbon are not terrible but the selection could be better. Kentucky is right next door.

It is good to have Kentucky at your door step! Finding these different bourbons is all part of the fun and makes it exciting! Cheers Guy! We appreciate all the support and love!

I live here in Washington state. After privatization, the prices did go up a little bit, but the selection/variety exploded. Bourbon shelves went from the same 20 labels to upwards of 100 in the right stores. I'd rather pay more and have the opportunity to buy something special then be stuck paying less for Woodford. Cheers!

Thanks for the info about Washington! Here in Ohio, the head of our liquor control board has pointed to Washington as an example of why state control is good for the consumer. His argument was that selection went down and prices spiked at least 20%. It's nice to know that he's full of crap!

@@BourbonandaBaby just a few short years ago, I only drank Woodford, Eagle Rare and regular Elijah Craig because those were the best available bourbons. Now I get to drink Booker's, ECBP, Stagg Jr (and the occasional GTS), Blanton's, Weller, and Knob Creek single barrel. Hell, I even scored a Rip 10 last New Years! This was unheard of under state control.

I'd rather has selection all day! To have the option to choose what store to go to allows you to have more power as a consumer. Totally agree with you, man! Cheers!

Actually, according to a 2019 news report, prices went up quite a lot, and the "variety explosion" you're talking about has been limited to a tiny number of specialty stores with most others selling only a quarter to a third as many bourbons as a state-run store across the border in Idaho. I'm not going to link to the segment because it can get this comment nuked, but the title is "Private liquor in Washington state: Are we better off?" broadcast on KREM2. I'm truly glad you're enjoying your special bourbon, mind, just a bit of a stickler for facts.

Benjamin Franklin is rolling over in his grave. Smh.... I live in Florida, we are private. We have great prices and a vast selection. The tax isn't even that high, and they are always open. The state is still buying from private markets, and those private markets are only going to allocate so much to the state because they are still running a profit margin to those private businesses. The state doesn't have a state run distillery. Why as a private business would i allocate more than 5% of my product when on each bottle I'm running a loss? It's not worth it. So, they only sell so much to the state and still provide to the private markets so they can meet their profit margins. If it wasn't for States being private and private companies running business, state run stores wouldn't exist, except for maybe one in the middle of the state, and only one store. Like there is only One gun store in all of Mexico and it's state owned.

I live in Alabama. State ABC stores with private sale. The private sellers have to go the the ABC store and buy at regular price. So, a bottle I like that is $37 in the "state store" and $48 in the private store. Cheers guys!

That is the one good thing about state run. They seem to be able to keep the prices down closer to MSRP. Selection is a little spotty though. Cheers Patrick!

If the Private Stores *must* buy from the State Store, that is NOT Private Sales. Truly "Private" is when the Private Stores can buy *directly* from the same Distributors that the State Stores do... and get the volume discounts.

Ohio is state run but most the state stores have a decent selection and you can usually lookup what stores have online before you go there.

We heard that Ohio's system seems to run better than PA's. It is nice to check what selection each store has. PA has a form of this, but they need to work on it a lot more. Cheers!

Well you guys managed to piss me off!!! July 23rd and I'm sitting around in thin Bermuda shorts with a shop fan blowing on me and a bag of ice around my neck, and you two jokers are sporting fleece jackets! I am packing up my decanter full of Rebel Yell 100 and moving north. No wait, you can buy tequila at the gas station here in Louisiana.......

First of all buddies... where in PA are y'all at that you're wearing jackets, lol. Jk. But honestly, i thought state ran was a good thing, but here in VA everything seems like a lottery. Id rather live next to a state ran one, but live in a private ran state. Lol. Cheers buddies 🥃🥃

I was gonna ask the same thing! I'm in PA and it's definitely not jeans and jackets weather. I live in PA, close to the DE border, so I live in a state run liqour state, and I'm able to shop in DE, which is private run and 10-15 minutes away. Cheers!
