I love how we always saw Callie as the energetic one, with more bounce to her movement. But here, it's almost robotic, stilted. What was probably just hardware limitations actually ended up showing just how brainwashed she is.
I just noticed this! It is kinda robotic...its weird but looks great at the same time. Also, is the dance style like this because (its just my theory) Octavio is controlling her using his music?
Honestly, I don’t think there was limitations. She was still conscious and fully capable of self involvement, however, the brainwashing glasses basically changed her personality to a more “cruel accomplice”. Hence her dancing style.
No way dog, this is not the prodcuct of hardware limitations, but an intentional choice by the devs. Dances are extremely hard to animate, so the splatoon series uses motion capture software to create the animations whenever idols perform. Every dance, between her original amiibo performances in splatoon 1, to how she dances here, to her inkantation performance at the end is all exactly how the devs wanted it... On a technical level, this model is actually ever so slightly more capable animation-wise than her standard outfit or splatoon 1 model.
@@neemis7796 To be honest, the animation probably looks robotic because you are never supposed to be looking at it close enough kind of like how the animation of pearl and marina on the helicopter of octo expansion looks robotic, you are supposed to see it from far enough you wont be able to notice all details
I never really noticed how much the Inklings move their hips before (kinda weird but I guess they just can’t stand still), but that “idle” pose when she isn’t singing is pretty similar to the battle-ready idle pose for regular Inklings and Octolings
I do love how fluent her movements are even when you don't see them, it seems like a lot of care went into the movement too someone on the team must of really liked Callie
I absolutely love how animated she is considering you can barely see her on the stage, as well as those big screens in the background, they move too much lol
Do you think you could do this for Callie’s animation of when you shoot Dj Octavios punches back at him and she loses her balance? and if possible a close up of pearl warming up in the helicopter while you fight the nils statue!! I seriously love close up footage of stuff you can’t see to well in game, so I’m so glad to see this uploaded in good quality too!!
I'll try! seems a bit hard because I'd have to place the camera and try to play without seeing until I get the hit, or I could replace her dance animations with that one, that seems easier ^^ as for off the hook I can't get it 100% static because I don't know how to change the way the helicopter moves but I tried to follow them
I love that little detail wheee you can see her doing some of the dance moves from ‘City Of Colour’ and ‘Calamari Inkantation’. Plus, that pose ay the beginning gave me really BIG Pearl energy LOL Speaking of which, remember Pearl’s scrapped octoling design, I had an idea for a concept if they kept it, she could’ve been Callie’s sidekick, as their outfits look similar. Maybe DJ Octavio could’ve had a machine similar to the one he has in Splatoon 3, but purple and green, with suspiciously aquamarine and pink legs. Before the final boss, there could’ve been 1v1 fights. The aquamarine leg is also a DJ booth and it turns out that Marina is in it, you had to clog up her speakers and try not to get swayed by her music, which would be a dreamy pop style song Then there’s the pink leg of the machine, which is a stage with some some Killer Wail-like speakers around it. This is Octo-Pearl… well just Pearl, and she could’ve had a sound beam attack, where you had to try and repel her sound beams and also occasionally throwing rhymes at you, as if writing a diss track about you. Once you’ve defeated Octo Hook (That was going to be Off the Hook were going to be called if Pearl was an octoling) that’s when the main event happens and you have to fight DJ Octavio and then Callie
One thing to consider…if the name “hypnoshades” is any indication Callie isn’t being mind controlled here, when in a hypnotized state (if I remember correctly) you can’t be forced to do anything that goes against your own morals, meaning on some level, Callie WANTED to side with the Octarians…that’s not related to this song at all…I just thought it was interesting to think about
The relationship chart (where she finds the Octarians adorable and is willing to listen to Octavio's side) and some other side content (for ex. there's this concept art of an Octotrooper comforting Callie (presumably after her loss of the Callie vs Marie splatfest), its adorable and also sad) certainly suggest that Callie at the least went to the Octarians willingly and I think interpreting the whole thing to be willing, with her pretending to be brainwashed for the sake of not looking like she's siding "with the bad guys" or just being hypnotised into being more comfortable with what she's doing, definitely isn't a stretch. Also like, Octarian Society isn't evil, a lot of the "dramatisation" of it is an English localisation thing (the jp original text never describes the Octarian Society as oppressive for ex) They're mostly just really suffering as a result of losing the war and having to live in a much worse environment, and their leader is very desperate to do something about it to the point of well what happens in the games.
I heard that she did this to herself, even if it was by accident… the goal was she just wanted some proper sunglasses, and somehow made her way to Octavio at some point and then I guess she found these ‘shades. Sadly I don’t think this story I found is canon, but yet i love the idea that he originally made them for himself and that she did it on accident!😅
...I don't know man, real world logic doesn't work in video games sometimes... Unless the octolings are selling Callie her favorite food everyday for free... actually probably that... Personally, I think she was bribed with something she liked while she was hypnotized, or made a really good friend she wanted to stay with. Or she was chemically unbalanced... many options. :)
In Bomb Rush Blush, it sounds like Callie is saying, "Can't you see that I need you now?" Given the context of the situation, that is terrifying. And how it just looks like Callie isn't her normal self makes the "lyrics" make even more sense. The other line I hear very well is, "To get up for me." Almost like Callie is asking Marie to save her from the Octarians while under control, showing that she is, at the very least, putting in some effort to break free from the brainwashing.
The songs have official "lyrics" but they're just Japanese syllables without meaning so whatever you're hearing is just the natural human Instinct of trying to get words from word-sounding sounds
i think the coolest thing in all this is the fact the style of dance she’s actually doing in this is called “para para” and that it keeps mostly true to real para para
The Octarian letimotif is present in a lot of Splatoon music, and is also here in Bomb Rush Blush Remix and Tidal Rush to show how Callie is working for the Octarians.
It’s really interesting how she always seems so bubbly when she dance otherwise where here this feels very robotic and brainwashed y, though it might just be bc we aren’t meant to focus on this animations
Never say "inner peace" we all know something had is on its aproch by next year. Let's face it. Something Bad will happen next year. You just wait. It happened back in both 2020 and 2021 now we're waiting for whatever awaits

the fact mind controlled callie is just the whole average aesthetic in TikTok. just having pink and black stuff, monster energy, some of those shirts Callie's wearing, and kuromi stuff- some might have other stereotypes but still- it's pretty accurate to me
I’ve been trying to master the dance for my Callie cosplay and oh my god the part where she does the 8 symbol is so hard because Of how fast her hands are going not to mention how hard it is to memorize the dancing parts 😭😭😭
I like how the Hypnoshades seem to be reading her pulse. The heart monitor is when she's in the zone, while the diamonds show up when she does something specific
I believe I heard somewhere in one of the interviews (from a long video reviewing a lot of the interviews and lore in them) that all inklings and octolings are able to change their hair, eye color, clothes etc. on a whim. I never really thought about it that much, but that’s probably what Callie did as she jumped to Marie. That also gives us a look into how they do it (from what we can see at least from the slomo).
I always loved how bosses had very livid animations (DJ octavio in splatoon 1, Deep cut) but usually the player is so far away and so much is happening on screen that it's very hard to see them dance, I hope we can have a static camera of everyone else during boss fights

While both the Tidal Rush and Spicy Calamari Inkantation dances are from the DJ Octavio boss, the Fly Octo Fly dance is from the Commander Tartar/NILS Statue boss as well as MC Princess Diaries.
The fact that her voice does the duh do dodo da aka (octotune well I call it that anyway) suggests that the hipnoshades literally remix someone And octavo can't sing cuz his is a DJ so his uses callie and!! At the end of Demo ebb & flow the octotune plays suggesting that it's probably planted in octolings minds since marina just set free from octavo she still had it in her brain. (Yes this is gonna my English homework)

Her right arm gets buggy, I can fix it but then her shoulder gets messed up, also my emulator loads animations in the final boss at like 90% speed but I guess that's better than nothing ^^'
