After seeing this little interview, I fail to see how this situation blew up the way it did. The douchebag interviewer tried to put words in his mouth. What Aker was trying to say was right. “There’s some of us that don’t care really, and there’s some that do. Buyer beware.”
I, as a gay person, understand where he is coming from and respect his honesty and intentions. If all footballers were like him...if all men were like him, no one would be scared to come out.
That’s what I’ve been trying to get through to people! He understands the massive homophobia in the sport and the backlash you can get for coming out in such a anti-gay environment. This is why I’ve looked up to Jason for 20 years. Talented, very smart and extremely nice, as I got to play footy with him in the mid-2000’s as a kid when he came to my primary school for a special appearance. Betcha he doesn’t know the one kid (me) that he played footy with (because no other kid bothered to partner up with me) almost 20 years ago grew up to be a gay guy. 😂 But hey, that’s the way it goes. 🏳️🌈

There was no homophobia in what he said. He brought attention to the fact that the afl world for not as modern as it thought. Not to mention the fact that opposition players have always used anything they can to unsettle their marker. The bulldogs felt defective guilt and sacked him smh
why do they need to 'come out'? whats being gay got to do with sport or business or whatever? i dont tell people im heterosexual, Christian or some of the other identifications I assign to.
You don't have to lie in order to hide who you are, avoid speaking about your relationships, about what you did over the weekend or about your long term plans and about who you really are; just to retain acceptance and your job.... Do you really not get it?
