Nice logical loadout. I have personally moved toward not compressing the quilt and other insulation. They still go in a waterproof bag, but I just fold the top over and then push the rest of the pack’s contents on top. This more closely aligns to Mike Clelland’s OG ultralight philosophy of making the pack softer against the back. After experimenting, I was surprised to find that compressing all of the soft stuff didn’t make an appreciable difference in overall pack size. My guess is that all of the other items conform better and don’t leave wasted space. More comfy, too. YMMV.
@@OutdoorOtaku I have Gossamer Gear Murmur & Kumo (28L internal), LiteAF Curve 30L and Framed 48L, and an Evolved Supply Co. Ranger 35L. I most often use the loose quilt method in the Murmur, since that pack is basically a grocery bag with straps (haha). I even leave my tarp or tent (also GG) loose on top of the quilt (separated by the bag). Then just place my food bag (including pot/stove/hygiene) and electronics bag on top of that. Squish it down just enough to roll the top of the pack down sufficiently. Warning: this will not result in an impossibly small looking pack to flex on the trail, since you’re effectively using the full volume of the pack all the time. All the Palante tiny pack influencers will scoff. Lol.

Impressive you got all that gear in the C9111 and still had fabric to roll it closed. I have one and really struggle to fit everything so will look at a compression sack.
gear and amount of days out can make a big difference. i had about 1 and a half days of food in there. it can easily fit more though. using a trekking pole tent also helps a lot.
nice! ordered one recently after your review! i'll be carrying a bit heavier loads here in Norway so i'll test it out with the frame and belt to see if it can carry 8-10kg, i'll be testing some of your other mods too! oh and if you want to ditch the puffer you can mod in a opening in your quilt and use it as a poncho at camp

i have the same bag. i took the foam back panel out too. However, i attached 3 elasticated cords across the back rest from the tieouts to hold a thinlight foam pad externally (easy access and stays in place) and I also attached guy lines to the bottom loops and across to the strap-loop so i can store my tent there (longer dyneema bag) since i always pack my tent outside and last (usually wet in scotland)
Most people (myself included) put its matress folded in a rectangular shape placed against the back. Why don't you do that? I do it and feels more confortable than what you so where you can have like a crest in the middle of your bag. Good video as always!
That's a good point! I have tested it before. Believe it or not, i feel like it's more comfortable without the pad. With the pad against the back it feels bulky. Once i put the pack on, the crest conforms to my body. the only issue is if the food bag wasn't placed in correctly. a quick adjustment can make it flat. Also, another smaller issue is that the pad will get soaked if i put it there. Not just with rain, but sweat as well. Since i took out most of the back material on the c9111 except for some mesh, moisture from my back travels through it very easily. I'm definitely the odd one out! i do know a lot of people recommend this. Everyone should definitely try both options to see what they prefer. Thank you for bringing this up.

@@enricadventures5793 if it's in the nyloflume then wouldnt it get smushed down to the bottom ish half of the pack? yeah whenever i can pack vertically i do so. that's one of the reasons why i keep the side bottle pockets and back stretch pocket fairly empty/light stuff only.
If it is raining when you are setting up your tent, you would have to empty your pack before you can reach the tent? Maybe not a problem if everything is in waterproof packs?
all the important stuff (electronics) are in ziploc bags. i know some people would put their tent in last or near the top so when it rains they can set it up easily and first. as a weekend warrior, i've never put myself in a position where it was pouring enough for me to care.
unfortunately not. i have a smaller capacity bottle i use that i DIY'd. check my channel if you want to see that. those bottles are still going strong. Aonijie has hard bottle's with straws, but its not contoured. It's such a shame they discontinued it. im sure it's to save money. the new bottles they have look exactly like the aonijie ones from china. I did a little bit of DIYing with an Amphipod contoured hand bottle and the cap of the aonijie bottle. they screw together but the threads are not perfectly aligned so it leaks a lot. my next try may be using the Amphipod bottle again but with one of those bottle straw conversion kits. not the one i used in my video but some of the other ones that can fit large mouth bottles.

thank you! i did bring a cook set @ 3:28. in the pot is my stove, lighter, and isobutane canister. since i have the freeze dried food separating the pot from my back, it is comfortable.

Love your videos! In your opinion would this 30 Lt fastpak hold up for 1200 miles on Appalachian trail section hike I would only have a total pack weight of 18 to 22 lbs . Your thoughts?
thank you Mark! well, im merely a weekend warrior so i haven't dont continuous long term testing. However my c9111 has been with me for awhile now. Overnights, hikes, runs, and traveling. No issues. if i was to go on a thru hike, i'd trust it. worst case scenario, it's so cheap you can buy a backpack to leave at home and ready to ship out if needed.
no i have not. i personally dont like hipbelts. i prefer to use a separate running belt. i may try it though since it is lower volume. im curious if i can get it to weigh less than the c9111 when modded.
As @stigcc said, there is a 20l. however other than pack testing days, this is the pack i use for pretty much everything lol. Trail running, fast packing, day hiking, even travel. You can cinch it down pretty small.
