The progress is like you are actually working 4x speed. Adding noggins as you go. A Sunday BLOG at 15-mins is a true pleasure.

Feeling the excitement of your next level construction.Have followed your progress from the beginning and am overwhelmed at the difference already and your hard work and continued enthusiasm. This is such a worthwhile project because of the history behind the Chateau and the lives that were saved.

I think because of the level and the fireplace, this room is the first one that feels like it's a real room. When the floor goes up to the edge of the fireplace and you are walking out down the stairs, it feels like a real room. lol I'm typing this as you are saying that this one is different, it really feels different, absolutely amazing!

Now that spring has arrived a quick tour of all the plantings you did in the fall would be great

I've every bit of faith possible that you'll get the required new joists, noggins and floorboards, etc. in at each level according to your planned deadlines, so that you can install the next part of the roof making your chateau even more water-tight. There's absolutely no doubt that the bureau was the kind that you described, this is not anything hypothetical. That's the kind of bureau that my grandfather had, and yes, it is absolutely, for our modern standards, luxurious. We're talking leather couches/chairs, we're talking woodwork, we're talking decoration, we're talking old furniture, we're talking walls full of shelves full of books, we're talking "all of it looks brand new". That kind of room.

I love watching the several channels of folks like you who are lovingly, and some times extravagantly restoring these buildings. As I watch you (and Les Jeromes) I think to myself, “A wrecking ball judiciously used in these couple of places” would quickly solve a multitude of problems. Then just start the building all over again. HOWEVER, there is nothing like watching, and I presume working on, these pieces of patrimony and seeing them once again take shape is incredibly rewarding. My mother and I have/had the same kind of gift. It used to drive my dad crazy! Not what it looks like now, but what it can look like with a little (or maybe a lot???) of TLC, and it will be stunning. Even though much of your work is inside, replacing floors and digging out trees, much the same can be seen…a beauty will once again shine forth. Eventually. Kudos to you and your team, Dan.

It's amazing how fast you can go with the right tools! No more chipping the joist ends out with a circular saw and a hammer & chisel...

You and Nick are working at the speed of light! It’s coming together nicely! The bureau could become a gentleman’s “Chamber of Curiosities” to display all the treasures you found around the château. Re. CoC, during the 17th and 18th centuries English men of means would go for several years on a “Grand Tour” throughout Europe. They collected all sorts of artifacts which they then displayed in their libraries.

With every joist that you put in, you are making the structure stronger and stronger. Removing rubble from the upper levels also makes it more stable, removing high-level weight. Good work.

Masters honing their craft and showing that restoration and renovation work with one's hands is still 50% cerebral and 50% manual. Kudos to Dan and his friends for recovering a piece of French history. I am still working on my Victorian house (circa 1880) in Toronto-- a City which is destroying its architectural heritage with steel and glass condo tower. After 25 years of working on my own home, there is still nothing like the feeling of standing back from one's work, looking at it, and saying "I did that, and in the future I will enjoy the fruits of my own labour..." I watched Dan’s video’s from the beginning when he just bought the chateau as a ruïne. I was fascinated by his vision, his endurance, his workforce and the great friends. I thought I watched it because I did a similar thing with a partner to renovate an old chateau in France almost 2 decades ago. But just now I realize that I watch his progress because I am rebuilding my own energetic inner castle as a rebirth in life. How inspiring things work. I love the banter you have with Nick, it reminds me of the time I renovated a historic building with a builder and it was a real pleasure working with him and best of all his wife would make fresh scones and sandwiches every day for us. It helps when you can have a laugh now and then. I can't get over the speed this floor is going in, with the help of all the new knowledge and all the new tools !
