STE 0.8.0 is out. Is it a good step forward? Starship Troopers: Extermination Update Review

Let me get the obvious out of the way. I like Starship Troopers Extermination. I believe it is a great addition to the Starship Troopers Universe and that it should get more attention. This does not mean it’s perfect, or near perfect, and it certainly does not mean I agree with every decision OWI have made in it’s development, and with some stuff announced for the release of the game, in October this year. It is in development and there is still time to make it better. And this 0.8.0 update did just that. All footage and playtime was after the hotfix to address the crashes people were experiencing.
First, let’s talk about the positives and then move on to the rest.

Dude this update is so fucking good, I just got off a match were all the bugs bummed rush one area, used there dead to climb to the top of the walls, and proceeded to run amok as they used the dead bodies of their allies as cover. It was insane.

This update was steps into the right direction, I like this update very much (definitely not perfect though) but the October release is too soon and they should wait with releasing the game.

This game's developers is only listening to the hardcore players on discord they're not listening to casuals and it's taking them so long to implement weak points I have been waiting for this for over a year, it even had a bug where it shut my computer off like power it down and I had to turn it back on early on in its life cycle very very skeptical about coming back

By the way this was on a brand new built computer I-9 36 g ram, 3090 GTX 12 gig no excuse to crash

I have never had that crash happen I don't think. As for the development, I think there are 2 camps. one thinks the game should focus more on self development, and some on the team aspect and team play. It's the "I need" vs "we need". It is my belief that if they focused more on features to promote community and playing together they would have more players. Unfortunately it has not gone that way so far.

@@tankprohpive got a pretty beastly pc too I9-13000k, 96 gigs ddr5, but only a 3070. Ive played since release and never (that I can recall) had any issues other than lag at max graphics. It seems to be fixed now. My little nvidia 3070 has a great time on max settings.

Loving the carnage system, had a horde game tonight on Valaka in the tunnels, we didnt have enough engineers cleaning so the tunnels filled up with bugs and blocked them up 😂

I've been playing on and off since it came out, and the newest update is pretty good. I like how the carcasses of the bugs you kill stay and can become obstacles.

Thanks for this update! I played a bit of STE in the past and found it pretty unstable and performed poorly and overall felt unfinished, but after their recent marketing push I'm encouraged that the game seems to be heading toward a much better state. This type of video seems like just what I need to keep up with the game.

I don't own STE, I really wanted to buy it (as I'm a big fan), but it clearly isn't worth the money at this stage, then Helldivers came and it was over for STE... But, it seems to be heading in the right direction and with HD falling from grace, I might circle back and get it later! Provided it survives long enough :D

It really depends on what they decide for the 1.0 release. For those like me that have it yeah, it's worth playing the update. But for those that don't, waiting to see how it pans out isn't a bad idea.

The gfx actually arent bad with everything turned to low, im not a fps nazi however, i play games because they are fun

just downlaoded and hoped into a match, all levels are gone, guns feel horrible to use, aim is off, and dying instantly to small bug bites. i'm not sure if i'll come back to the game anytime soon but i wish it gets better

wait.. how come your game is running smooth ? my fps is like 15 to 25 and it cant even get up to 50

I'm sorry you aren't having a clean experience. My pc is on the top end but I need it to play in 4k smoothly. maybe turn down some settings and turn Vsync off. Not knowing what you have does not help. Play around with the settings in game to find something that works for you.

Wierd. Maybe hop on their discord and make a bug report. maybe some other folks had that problem and fixed it somehow already.

I hope they stick with it. I had a lot of fun with it. Moreso than helldivers 2. I haven't played in probably 9 or 10 months. Hopefully the full release nets a bunch of new players and they continue with the content. Have they added new guns or gear? .edit- hey socks can you play maxed graphically? If so what are your specs. My i9-13000k 96 gigs ddr5 and nvidia 3070 struggles

I play in 4k but my rig is all AMD. 7900x + 7900xt. But the game still has some optimizing to do. It's no were near market ready.

@TheOnlySillySocks that's good to know. Glad it's not all my hardware. My rig is top end (gpu aside) still I'm extremely excited for the future of this game and franchise
