Steal Your Amps Tone With The MOOER Preamp Live! 

SuomiPerkele plenty think that what Kemper does is at least in part EQ matching. I am inclined to think so as well. Of course it does more than that -- it's only half the story with Kemper (assuming it's part of the story at sll, which I don't see how it can not be , personally)

Though given Mooer came for the AX8 with the GE200 and now Positive Grid, I wouldn't be surprised if Mooer eventually releases their own Kemper competitor at some point.

Joshua Cole positive grid already added more "matching " facilities (not just EQ ) in their latest version. In fact, I've felt the plug-in got closer to my amp than Kemper did when it comes mid low end frequencies and low mids. Granted, it's not as consistent as Kemper, in my testing at least -- and Kemper may achieve what It does partly differently anyways, but I've been impressed with the bias results.

+SuomiPerkele Kemper does Eq-Matching, plus other calculations on the dynamics and (possibly) the gain stages. Since you have a plethora of options on the MOOER to shape your tone, your dynamics and gain stages, a simple Eq-Matching in the end would be good enough, at least for me. All the tests and reviews I saw were pretty convincing, the price is killer, and this was not meant to be a serious discussion to begin with :)

ChristianIce I agree that it's often enough . With axe fx I've gotten very very close to my amps as well -- in some cases not even needing eq matching :) But it's definitely been the last piece in the puzzle. But I'll have to test out mooer with a variety of amps to see how it fares.

The preamp sound. I don’t know why they don’t have a way to do it yet with a complete tone. This this essentially tone matches how the axefx does by laying an eq curve over an existing tone.

@@schlagdog well you still need a poweramp section to have sound. Even if you captured the sound you would still feed it to a poweramp messing it up. The pre amp is where most of the sound is tho

Korax Not if you have a SS poweramp like the baby bomb if you use it that way. You can turn on a fake poweramp section in the Preamp Live to simulate it i guess but it won’t sound the same. I actually think the MOOER preamps actually sound more like complete amp models. I have the 005 and it sounds more like an amp through the baby bomb and not just a Preamp section. The Mooer stuff is awesome. Don’t know why they undercut their own products though. Let’s make a product that does everyone of our 17 preamps that are $100 a piece and does all the stuff the Radar does that’s $150 and sell it for $399 so we never sell any of our other preamps and radars.

Yeah more than likely but we're not thinking of perfection here, more like "I have a gig tonight and my amp is acting up, I need a stand in while I fix the amp". I agree it'll likely struggle to be perfect, but in a pinch, maybe it could come close enough. Would be cheaper than buying a Kemper at least haha.

If you run the pedals in between the mooer and the input of the guitar head, it should work! I have no personal experience but in theory I don't see why it wouldn't work

I think there's no way to capture the preamp of it, unless you mod it with an FX LOOP. however, if you have a loadbox with a line out, you could capture the entire preamp+poweramp tone, and in the MOOER disable the poweramp emulation. I don't know if it would sound ok, but technically that's a way to do it.

It's a pre amp , don't think it's instrument specific , could be wrong.

metalheadblues the preamp may not be as sensitive to lower frequencies. You can plug a bass into a guitar amp but it won’t react the same way as a bass amp.

Yes you can, it's a relatively simple tone match but it's very effective.

i read the mooer preamp live manual and there is a bass cab IR already inside. There is a thread on Talkbass about someone using it for bass, from what I read it sounds pretty decent... When I have the budget I will buy this Preamp Live and try it!!
