woahh this is really good :D I love how cinematic it sounds, with how quiet yet eerie some parts sound going into louder more tense sections I also really love how you used bass drums and other instruments to represent different things, I thought that was really cool
thank you, biinoo! :D I tried to focus on the atmosphere for the more subdued parts of this piece since, in my mind, that's when the protagonist is trying to hide and be subtle; thus, the music should match i also put some effort into making the music more diegetic in some places, such as the snap right before 3:25, the drums for a heartbeat, and the bartok pizz + percussion in the Hide section, especially since there aren't any visuals to go along with the music :D
Oh... I guess the dragon woke up. But at least we got away... ...or did we? ... ... ... I absolutely love it. The fact you told a story that I could imagine so vividly through just music alone goes to show just how much talent you really have. Well done on this one. Truly.
thank you so much! :D i'm glad the story came across well; it was my main focus for this piece :) also, i like the idea that the dragon was sleeping! i imagined that the human waited for the dragon to leave before stealing from it, and then it returned unexpectedly during the heist
First like first like!!! omg, i love the curious opening, it's very very romantic-era, almost Holst-like! Your string and wind writing in this piece is very nice, and oooh that CHOIR at the lair bit!! You really get the 'mountains and mountains of gold, hoarded loot and long-abandoned king's armour' energy. I also really really like the inquisitive opening of the hatchling, and how it almost sounds like a far more withdrawn form of the later mother dragon's theme! The distatnt roar is just impeccable, with that lovely little diegetic pluck and the stompy bits with the bartok pizz!!!! god this is amazing. you have so much potential and this is just awesome.
thank you so much, starkeeper! :D i always love your in-depth comments :) I'm glad you liked the choir! i just recently got my choir vst, and I was excited to try it out in a full orchestral setting :) I'm also happy you noticed the connection between the hatching and main dragon theme! i tried to keep the dragon motif (the D Eb B thing, mostly) common throughout most of the piece. and since the hatchling and mother are related, I wanted to basically create a more lighthearted, happy version of the theme :D also, I'm really happy with how forceful those stomps in the Hide section are :) i think they're all a spiccato note in contrabass, bartok pizz. in cello, snare hit, bass drum hit, timpani hit, and short shout from choir basses overlayed over each other. they also play a slightly modified version of the dragon theme (instead of D Eb B it is D Eb C, mainly because that C is as low as those instruments go)
