In this video, I spend the night stealth car camping in my Land Rover whilst travelling across the country to meet up with Kent Survival. Once dark, I set up my home for the night, drawing the curtains and making myself comfortable before tucking into some dinner and enjoying the evening. A comfortable nights sleep and I’m refreshed and ready to continue with my journey.
I converted my Land Rover into an off-road, off-grid overlanding camper. It has a basic, but functional kitchen for cooking, a comfortable hammock bed, swivel seating, heating and lighting - everything I need to spend the night comfortably.

Very nice simple set up there Simon. My grandparents converted an H plate 1970 long wheel base 2 birth Landy with a capstan winch in which they toured around in. Shipped it to South Africa and America, drove to Morocco and North Capp. Loved it as a kid, was fascinated by the levers and loved the blue diesel light! They were living the van life in the 70’s😂

As far as "road noise", when you're sleeping, I've used ear plugs for over 35 years. They really do the trick, and cut you off from the outside world.

I can’t speak for Oh Boy’s properties as an aphrodisiac but I’m told the best thing to do is just dim the lights, pour hot chocolate and ahem give it to her. She should be singing “I believe in miracles” in no time at all… 😂

Hi Simon, were the doors you fitted new items or second hand? I've recently bought a 1988 110 with a 300Tdi. It had been parked up in a barn for 8 years but I'm well on the way to getting it on the road, it' be my daily drive and work vehicle. I sold my previous Landy (90) last year. One thing I've found is that all the doors are heavily corroded and I'm in two minds whether to replace or repair them. I'm hoping to convert the inside in a similar fashion to yours as it seems so practical. Thanks Dave

Hi Dave, I bought them second hand and separately - the front doors are just as I bought them, the second row doors were in bad condition - needed lots of welding and a re spray 👍👍

I've loved this set up from when you first posted your "Off Grid Adventure Wagon" video a year ago. And you've only made it better. The crowning glory however is the canoe paddle shifter knob! Love it! I wish they sold these old Defenders where I live in Canada. You can order them in from out of country by some specialist dealers but they cost a small fortune. Whilst I enjoy you're videos I do have an issue with costly ones and by that I'm talking of the cost. Why you might ask, in the simplist explanation, the cost of living/current circumstances which many have been hit by during/following Covid. Perhaps a more financially vuable consideration view of your content for those of us who have no option but to budget just to experience some of you're own journeys. Also, could you maybe collaborate with land zones the places that many viewers can stayover on camping.

It's glamping entertainment not real life. Not many outdoorsy folk take Baker Tents and cast iron Dutch ovens into the wild or strain clarified butter through muslin to make Naans! If you want everyday wild camping and bushcraft just do it yourself or watch the channels that cater for the lightweight activists.

Thank you! I’m not concerned about using the stove - the Land Rover is drafty and we’ll ventilated, but I usually slide the window open if I’m doing more than boiling the kettle 👍 A carbon monoxide detector is a sensible idea

Ah...you have a snorkel on your Land Rover....so you can visit Rufford Mill Ford, North Nottinghamshire....there is a foot of water on their bridge all the time and people try to fly thru it...jeeps and Land Rovers w/snorkels go flying thru the water, while others get hydrolocked... sucking water into their engines and have to be towed away..a guy has a u tube channel showing this...Happy Camping...Connecticut, USA here....😎😎

I live in Manitoba, where we get around a month of -35°C weather, and -20 the rest of winter. If your car leaves the road, it can get buried in a ditch or behind snowbanks and be invisible to passing traffic. Happened to a woman here who broke both arms in the crash and lost both feet to frostbite. So, it’s good to have a good winter sleeping bag, extra mitts and toque and a big candle in a can. Mohair socks are 2 times warmer than wool (from my own experience working outdoors), and natural fur is best for insulation (beaver, muskrat, rabbit, deerskin). For rations, I’ve heard of a guy who keeps a can of dog food in his truck. He’ll only eat it if he’s truly hungry.

I’ve got those windows I think there great. I just got some new door bottoms. As I had the original ones. They needed doing. One thing I’d like to do is remove the internal bulkhead. Mines a 110 van. Although I’m not getting in the back at the mo. Wheelchair and all. Nice cubard set up. Can you do a vid about your hammock setup. Cheers.

Simon, any tips on the Series 3 doors? I've got a 2000 Defender 110 County Estate and I've stripped the cards from the doors because I hate them, I was thinking of dressing up the door skeletons to make it look like the interior of a Swiss Watch, but putting in Series doors sounds like a good alternative. Btw, I followed your instructions on putting in a front passenger seat swivel plate, works like a dream!

I’m just trying to work out the anchor points of your hammock and whether they will sustain the weight of someone twice of yourself. I don’t own a Land Rover I never have done but I definitely intend to buy one very soon. Being a panel beater and an MOT tester I have certainly worked enough. Mainly chassis / body swaps, welding and the like. Slowly losing my mobility and desperate to find an adventure. Of course the old Land Rover is all a dream car. I would take it over any supercar any day of the week. But I had never thought about having a hammock so very interested in learning more about this.

When I saw the canal boats, I thought you'd parked by a canal ( I live on a canalboat, so instantly interested.) But the river is so gorgeous .What a beautiful spot for a stealth camp. I bet it makes such a difference to your comfort having a sink. It's looking really cozy the Landrover with everything you need close to hand.

Fill a long sock with rice or catlitter and tie it off. Keep in your car to absorb moisture. It works.

I used to do that a very long time ago now, only with a Series III, the last proper Land Rover :) Actually today I bought a plywood board to make my jeep a bit more usable for the odd night away as really it is too small for any kind of a proper conversion. In these latter days I think such features as a "kitchen" are overkill if you are used to roughing it in the woods with a trangia, or whatever.

Should have done a bit of fishing while you were there. Standing on the river bank with a fishing rod would have been a suggestive explanation why the RR was by the river side. Bonus points for catching your dinner!

Ive owned several Chevrolet blazers , a few jeeps , but none had enough room to stretch out in , I'm getting to dread hooking up to a camp trailer . Thinking about a 4x4 suburban or something big enough to sleep in . Put fishing tackle in and maybe a single shot, shotgun. Keep it ready to go at all times

Ugh! I hate alarm clocks. It's a shame car camping is illegal in most places. I think everyone should car camp at least once. Makes you appreciate ur home.
