I've had a chance to fully test out the Brewtools steam condenser. In this video I share my opinion of whether it's worth it or not. As well as the amount of water the condenser uses given my batch size.

G’day Bradley, I just wanted to drop you a short note and say that I’ve gone watch almost all of your uploads over the last month. Apart from the interesting content, there is one key take home message. You seem like a genuine guy. Someone that no doubt would be good to brew and have a beer with. Keep up the top work. Cheers!

Thank you very much I really appreciate it 🍻 I try to do the best I can to get my perspective across, I'm definitely sharing my opinions in my feelings about whatever products or brewing practices I'm showing on video. Thanks again I really really appreciate it If you're ever in the Southern California area I'd be happy to grab a beer.

Thanks once again Bradley for a constructive breakdown of the Stem Condenser. If it helps, yourself and David Heath are the clips of choice when it comes to learning about new products. Keep up the good work.

I used this for about 13 brews now, in my tiny shed with the 150l system. I usually boil at 75% with the hat on and the condenser works flawlessly. Hooked to my regular garden hose. I am very happy with it. I use thenstandard nozzle.

75% power seems like a pretty good result especially on a system that big 😍

What size of line do I need to run the water through to the condenser?

Bradley, great stuff as always! But as a constructive feedback: I am assuming you're preparing these clips and not just recording yourself on the spot. Given the reach you're having and trying to expand on I think it'd be much better customer experience if you did the conversions on the various data points you present beforehand and then include the most common ones in your clip (psi/bar, inch/mm, gallons/litres etc.). That would mean you looking these things up once and providing an easy experience to your audience instead of every viewer individually having to do the conversions themselves, stopping your clip, switching over to a conversion tool, switching back etc. Hope this helps you grow your international viewership and keep on rocking! 🤘

This was a must have item for me. I did my first brew day on the B80 without the steam hat and condenser and I could not believe how much steam the B80 produced compared to a Grainfather! So you wanted to know what it would be like in a basement? How about 98% RH and wet walls for a start, although I did have a nice sauna on the go. With the steam hat and condenser, there is none of that, and I can achieve a rolling boil at half the power, which is quite a saving when halving 6KW for 60-90mins. Great video as always Bradley!

Great video as always, I did end up buying this piece of equipment after saving up for a while. I have a quick question, what are you using in Brewfather for the boil off with the steam condenser attached. I missed my original gravity by quite a bit, and I assume it is because I did not boil off as much as I would without the condenser. Any help is appreciated as always. Keep up the great content. Cheers

Hi Bradley, first of all: thanks for all your instructive videos 🙏 I have something stressing me and I need your opinion. I am about to purchase a B80 and F80 and the steam condenser but also planning to do only 20L for a mid term (so I can multiply brewing experience) and my worry is: - would the condensated drop inside the 75% empty kettle, after boiling and during the cooling off, be a DMS problem in my wort before transferring it to the F80? - once my F80 filled at 25 %: this space above could have a negative impact or shouldn’t I worry because of the protection at top of wort fermenting before I can it? I ask you this because of the minimal difference of price (not even 10% for a double volume for the future). I hope you can help me with this. Thanks again for all of your videos. Saludos from a Mexican fan living in a cold winter France 🎉🤟
@PortlyGentleman

Can't wait🤙 I wonder if there is a way to reduce the water intake or maybe a way to recycle it back in as you would loose alot of water brewing the beer

Hi thanks for all the great content! I tested the spray nozzle without fitting it in to the tube, and I noticed a small leak where it is attached to the topp "lid". Have you had the same experience?

I have a couple shots of it running in this video. My next brewday video I'll Have it a operating 🍻 In my opinion it's definitely the best way to go. I found it since I've started using the condenser . I've had to apply less heat which has affected the flavor of the beers I've made in a positive way.

Bradley, I am currently (again) in the market for a new system. i do believe the last time i messaged you asking about you B80 Pro i decided to just save my money and not purchase a new system and stick it out with my G30 for a little while longer. Well Sir the time is upon yet again. My situation is this i have really wanted a "3 tier" system for a while and have had my eye on the system out of Milwaukee (kinda rhymes with "Pike"). The issue there is that for the 10gal finished batch size id have to purchase from what ive read, the 20gal system. Now that will run me slightly north of 6K. with the B80 i can get the lid cover, upgrade 3 way valve set up and steam condenser for around 3K. Saving in the neighborhood of $2,800.00. My question after explaining possibly too much is... how many plugs do i need with the B80? The 3 tier system only requires one 240V plug. If i were to get the B80 then another additional cost would be to wire in an additional outlet in my garage if it requires two 240V outlets. Thank you for you time. -Murphy
@PortlyGentleman
@PortlyGentleman 3 года назад
You could wire both of the power leads into one plugNo problem. As long as it’s right at 30 APM or more. I think the two plugs is a result of it being designed in Europe or 240 V is common. But it takes two circuits to create the necessary amperage to run it. Most of us in the US have to run a dedicated circuit. A three of us a system does seem pretty sweet. there’s one other big upside with Brewtools that’s the community. if you have any issues there’s lots of people that are willing to help. or even if you have ideas they’re more than willing to listen. A three vessel system you’re kind of on your own there.

Where did you get the light your using inside your lid? That would be handy.
@PortlyGentleman

I made it myself it's a custom piece basically an LED mag light a piece of acrylic and some epoxy. I would advise definitely asking Brewtools about making one.

I don’t think so it doesn’t quite work that way you could definitely rig something up to distill whatever you want though trust me 💯

It's actually shocking how much water is consumed by these home-brew steam condensers. Have BrewTools done any environmental impact assessments - from manufacturing to intended use - for the products they sell? It's standard practice for responsible businesses these days. Many home brewers brew their own so as not to support irresponsible businesses who profit from negative environmental impacts. Ditto craft brewers.
@PortlyGentleman
@PortlyGentleman 4 года назад
You're going to have to watch the video to see how much water my condenser currently consumes 😉. As far as environmental impact reports um first off that's kind of a big word for me LOL. As I am not associated with Brewtools in any way I honestly couldn't say. Truthfully that isn't really a concern to me maybe in the future I will change my mind. I hope you enjoy the video 🍻
@Oelsvingen
@Oelsvingen 4 года назад
In Norway, an inhabitant consumes about a barrel of water each day. When it comes to fossil fuels, US consumes three times as much as in Europe (per capita) . The environmental footprint varies from country to country. You can collect the water and use it when you visit the loo. It’s your choice.

Like Bradley explained, he re-uses the condensed steam and cooling water to clean up. This not only saves more water, but saves electrical energy. You have to clean your gear at the end of brewing. Now you'll have some warn water ready to go. I'll now be getting a hat/steam condensor for my B80 for sure. Thanks for the review Bradley, cheers Craig

I guess my situation is bit diferent from the one in California but this year (2020) we in Czech Republic had so much water that I had to pump it twice out of my house to the street. So Bradley, if you want next time I can pack it and send it to you in reasonable price... if not no worries I'll be anyway still watching your videos ;-)
