Valve should just make the Deck 2 easily replaceable battery in the future.
@TrompKramer

This is also easy. Just do it.
@UllrGamingGod
@UllrGamingGod 6 месяцев назад
@@TrompKrameri think it’s more about the nervousness with the heat gun, if you’re too far with it the process is a lot longer and if you’re too close, it can cause alot of damage. Also mind you that not everyone is techy so what may be easy for you isn’t easy for others. Bet if I took you back on an aircraft carrier and told you to do the job of a console recorder, it’ll be easy for me but hard for you kid

Could you use the Apple Pulltabs when reinstalling the battery? Seems like this would make further repairs easier.

my thought exactly. that way you can just pull tab it over heating.

Changed the battery on my OG stead deck today and can confirm that there’s almost no chance of anything going wrong if you use a bit of isopropyl alcohol to loosen the tape Some important details that are omitted here are that firstly there are only two strips of tape on the larger battery cell- one on the left and another on the right so if you’re going to slide in a plastic card and wriggle, do it on the edges Second, it is not the kind of acrylic polymer tape that will release with heat but it’s a very strong double sided foam-based tape. This means, if you can get some alcohol in there with a plastic card and just tear through some of the foam, that’s good enough too. Once the foam tape breaks down on either the top or bottom, it’s just really easy to slide a card in on that side and lift it up and the test of it will come off quite easily. Remember, you’re dealing with a foam strip and not raw adhesive- this is the main detail here

heres a question, do you *have* to reapply the adhesive on the new battery, and could you trim it down to just be around say, the edge of the battery or only a few small spots so that way if it does have to come out again, it isnt as much of an issue?
@bill_birba

Finally someone said it!!!!!
@dalekman9999
@dalekman9999 8 месяцев назад
@@bill_birba for real I'm still wondering this. I'm wondering does the battery having that adhesive all the way make it so the air doesn't go under or something or if there would be no issue actually doing what I mentioned I really would like someone who's knowledgeable on this to let me know because when the time comes and I need to change the batt I'd be tempted to do this

I own a switch and was curious if Steam Deck solved the easy to install battery problem. At least steam deck allows power cord plugged in with a dead battery to work unlike Switch. If Steam Deck 2 makes easy to replace battery like old cell phones I'll buy it until then I'll use my Switch which will eventually be e waste.

Dude! You just saved me. My steam deck hasn’t turned on in days and I’ve tried every means to try boot it up. The fan spins but the deck itself didn’t display. I tried to put the battery in battery storage mode but didn’t work, so I opened up the deck and couldn’t figure a way to pull out the battery cable because I felt it was glued. Your video saved me!!!! Thanks a lot 🙏🏼

@@BlademanZX Just had the same problem. Fix for me was one of, either: Turn it on and then hold down "..." on the right side and down on the d-pad for 5 seconds or so. Or, turn it off (hold power for 10 seconds) if it is on. Then while holding the same "..." and down d-pad buttons, turn it on again. One of those worked I can't remember which.

Why would we want to put adhesive on the new battery when this was exactly what you complained about when the teardown was done? If anything the leftover adhesive from taking the old one out would be enough to hold it since it's in a well that is going to but against the case when you put it back on.
@HeraBek
@HeraBek 11 месяцев назад
Ribbon cables are extremely fragile, and a loose battery pressing against them even a little bit could destroy them, the adhesive is needed because of this design.
@TheSolo38

how can you put it in battery storage mode if the battery if fully discharged would be no power.
@fletcherluders415

Wow, that's a very dangerous design valve have gone with there using adhesive and needing to heat the battery. Using a plastic bracket and screws like laptop batteries would have been the more sensible option, but can understand there may have been space restrictions.

You removed the aluminum tape and didn't put it back on after replacing the battery and closing the back again. Is that safe? People are saying that tape keeps away harmful signals from the motherboard.

I got my steam deck during the q3 pre-order shipments and my steam deck’s battery is still tip-top shape as it was when it was fresh from the box. I think the reason why this video exists for the worst-case scenarios such as being in a too hot environment.
@shashwatmittal5393
@shashwatmittal5393 7 месяцев назад
Different chemistry on that battery, different energy density, different voltage/current requirement for device, and finally, chances are that's a big ass bulky laptop with no dedicated graphics hardware and the only real semiconductor device giving out significant heat is the CPU which would be far away from the batter when you compare to something as compact as the steam deck.
@Mikhail-Kuhn
@Mikhail-Kuhn 7 месяцев назад
Also I'm pretty sure it has something to do with a regulator in the battery that gets tripped somehow. So it's not that the battery is dead but a part of it that can't be fixed without a full replacement.
