This was my young daughter’s favorite song. She listened to it, all the time. In 2013, she passed away, after just turning 15, after battling bone cancer for 16 months. We played this song at her funeral. Even now, hearing this song chokes me up, but in a good way. I love you, Miya - my honeybee. ❤️❤️❤️
She is always a thought away. And when you speak to her, if you listen, you can hear here reply... I wish I nd a magic wand... just remember she wants you to be happy and enjoy life more than anything, anything less would be sad... but she understands those days too.

I just had a frightening realization... 2012 I was in San Diego for Comic con with my friend, I went to the San Diego Zoo and noticed this stage out near the entrance across from the flamingos, I could hear them making their sound effects but just kept walking. two months later my girlfriend and I were talking about Automatons and she brought up The Spine, and Steam Powered Giraffe, I thought it was all a Lame Idea, Steam Powered Automaton band and all that. in February I was drawing a valentine for my girlfriend and couldn't find a good song for help. then I found "Honey Bee" and thought it was perfect. It took me 5 months to realize that the band I just barely caught a glimpse of is now one of my favorite bands.... To this day my girlfriend thinks I'm still a Idiot for not catching it earlier.

Their rise in popularity is amazing: In jan of 2008 they started busking in balboa park. There are articles about them being part of the zoos summer lineup in 2011 and 2017; but they likely did performances other years as well (this vid is 2012). This is after upgrade left (2009), and they've acquired their sam, and a tech. The jon left in oct 2012 and was replaced by hatchworth in nov (sam). You want a crazy story: electricity is in my soul was a download on rockband 2, 3, and blitz, in 2009, but only on the xbox.
I love how The Spine and Rabbit wear fancy Dress shoes, then The Jon is like-nah Dress shoes are so last season-I Swear the Jon was the hipster of the group.

I was staring at Jon's shoelace for like two minutes thinking "oh god he's not gonna trip is he?" And then Jon walked to the keyboard. And the thing happened.
I love how incredible these musicians are, everyone in the band not only contributes to vocals but they are all multi instrumentalists and essentially play musical chairs with them between sets, switching around guitars and basses and stuff
The Rabbit gives me all the feels. She is amazing and her journey is something great epics could be based on. The Spine has the greatest voice. I love this band so much. I wish I could see them live.

"JON" is another word some people use for toilet. so saying "i'm going to the Jon" is like saying im going to the toilet. Wheres the jon-wheres the toilet etc.
There’s so many tiny things you gotta love about this- I especially loved Jon throughout this whole thing :) How animated and bouncy he is, the lil “hello!”, his whistling- All adorable

That moment when you realize The Spine was using “throat singing” to produce that “fluttering whistle” tone in the last half of the choruses. That dude’s ability is beyond noteworthy. A proper student of his instrument (the voice)

If you're unsure of someone's gender, call them "they", like someone who has any respect for their fellow human beings. Second, "tranvestites" are not separate genders. If someone is a trans female then they ARE female. If someone is trans male then they ARE male. When Steam Powered Giraffe began, Isabella identified as a male, but a couple of years ago she had the courage to come out as transgender. She is a female. I don't know if you were trying to be disrespectful or if you just didn't know any better, but either way, now you do.
I only just found this song but it’s so cool to me the song is just so spot on with having a dystopian style in the way it does. Having key elements from the past and modern which is what it is postmodern, steam punk and it just sounds amazing. Even though it has so many heartfelt meanings to me, this song touches others, to me this is a breathtaking in the imagination and understanding of dystopian arts.

The main draw here is talent on multiple front's. The main stream props up people they want to make money from who they can control. They have to manufacture the talent or use smoke and mirrors to convince you it exists. These guys however have got something special. The musical ability plus the showmanship... They practiced for hours day after day for years to be at this level.. well done.
This group has undergone some changes since this video was made. That's fine it's their prerogative to do so, however I prefer this time period in the group's history the most.
Agreed. This era Steam Powered Giraffe is like my all-time favorite band. But the way they are nowadays just doesn’t click as much with me. They don’t, like, “automate” as much with their movements nowadays, and their humor is different, though I can’t quite place how exactly. It also doesn’t help that I absolutely adore the Jon.
Never knew for the longest time that Isabella Bennett was Christopher Bennett. I honestly thought they were two different band members. I remember thinking I liked the original band members more before even finding out about the transition

I'm thinking I need to watch Sam more when I watch these videos. I keep hearing about things he did that of course you never notice when you're watching Rabbit wiggle. And it's hard to imagine Sam sitting back there doing nothing, after seeing more of his personality!
Is it wrong I kinda miss the old Rabbit? I'm glad she is happy now but this Rabbit is so expressive, so good at miming and stealing the show. Its actually so different I thought it was a new person taking over Rabbits role, not still Rabbit. They so rarely do any of there old music from before her change now.
You're not alone. I defiantly miss the old days. I feel like Rabbit's voice was the strongest, most energetic of the group. You can especially hear it in Brass Goggles when they performed in La Jolla. Now, it seems like bunny's voice just isn't what it used to be.
@@jdsvedin878 Sadly I'm not even a fan anymore. Strike 1. David admits the band knew Micheal Reed was being inappropriate with younger fans years ago and still let him back in the band. No one told the police, it was swept under the rug until it couldn't be ignored. David also admits its one of his biggest regrets. Strike 2. Making Steve resign. If you are an 18 year old adult fan and want to have a consensual one night stand with a band member that fine with me. No sex shaming here. What's with the double standards SPG? David and Chelsea met when she was just a fan but Steve can't do the same? Strike 3. Bunny never acknowledged her inappropriateness with fans. When the whole Micheal Reed thing was happening, Bunny was called out on twitter about her past behavior. Are we believing the fans or aren't we? Double standards.

Not sure how many times they played there, but I was there one of those days during this time period, and that's how I found them. It was fun to watch, and the kids loved it.
I remember seeing them there when they performed this, had absolutely no clue what was going on, yet was so perplexed and enjoyed the bizarre performance.
