Still running Batocera internally on a 2TB SSD on my win600 but ive found in cold temps it takes a few boot up tries before it finally boots. Guessing its just the after market brand ssd, once it boots its fine, and again, only happens on cold temps. I always thought Id just get an oled steam deck sometime, however a few months back a buddy of mine from USA upgraded to an oled deck and offered me his lcd model for a price I couldnt refuse. I bought a 2TB SSD and a 1TB micro sd card for it as well, gotta max out that storage 😁. And rather than use steam OS I decided to run Batocera internally off the SSD as well. Runs great, its an emulation beast for sure and I also have a bunch of PC games on it as well, running from Batocera OS. So I still have the win600 and I planned to ebay it since the deck is so much better but I kinda still have a soft spot for the win600 for some reason and finding it hard to actually ebay it lol.
My Win600 is a bit of a guilty pleasure. Its the weakest modern handheld I have but yet I still enjoy a sesh on it. Its actually pretty usable with Steamfork too, well once you get used to the slightly janky menu/home button responses. Good to hear you still get use out of yours too.
Hmm, wouldnt say I actually get much use out of it exactly, I kinda just turn it on once in a while for nostalgia lol And compare stuff to steam deck. I think I will ebay it… 🤔..eventually 😇
Full disclosure, I'm the one who got it working and officially supported. I haven't pushed this to the SteamFork wiki yet, but I'll tell you here what you need to know about the buttons. There's a peculiar oddity with how the Win600 sends its extra button presses to the operating system. The regular controller buttons work fine, so this only affects Home, Windows, etc. The InputPlumber guys (InputPlumber is the software for handling buttons and controllers that many projects in the handheld SteamOS space are using now) are hopefully going to work on it, but the Win600 doesn't have a very large install base so it's probably not a high priority. Anyway, I worked hard and got the following working for now: Press Home: Guide (Xbox) button Hold Home: Holds guide button for combos like moving the cursor, taking a screenshot, etc (takes a second or two to activate) Windows: Nothing (Enabling the Windows button breaks everything else. This is the biggest issue right now) Hold Windows: Opens QAM (right side) menu. This sends Guide+A, so sometimes Steam reacts to the the Guide button and A button separately. Keyboard: Tries to open the keyboard, but it's currently not working. The InputPlumber guys say it's a bug in the Steam client. Right now you have to hold the Home button for a second or two and then press Select to bring up the keyboard. There's a known bug where sometimes the Power Button stops working, but resetting the device should clear it up. This is a broad bug that should be fixed by next release and isn't specific to the Win600. There are some sneaky hardware differences between Win600s. I have two Win600s, and they have different wifi chips. One of them will just lose wifi after a time, but putting the device to sleep and waking it up fixes it. I'm still trying to clear that up. Please definitely visit the Discord if you have any questions or weird bugs (either Win600-specific or about SteamFork in general).
@@Uejji sounds like promising developments and some great work carried out by yourself. I might just go reflash my Win600 from Bazzite to Steamfork again since the extra fact buttons don't work in Bazzite.
You might not have seen this video. I reduced fan volume/pitch by half with this simple mod. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RgzptPjNNo4.html
Do you know how to remap home button to steam home button instead of Xbox game bar ? Everytime I want to quit a game in big picture mode in windows 11 and press home button, it just shows up Xbox game bar. That is annoying
@@handheldgaming4life I just downloaded the Microsoft Keyboard Manager and remapped the shortcut Win+O into Shift+Tab. The problem is that it only works in game not in the home menu. If you want to make it work in home menu, you gotta remap it to Ctrl+1 but that won’t work in game.
Ok, I pondered long and hard on this, For $100 (£80) there isn't anything I'd buy. Everything I'd consider is either cheaper or more expensive. So I'd either consider saving until I had £140 and I'd get an Anbernic RG556 or, and this is what I'd probably do knowing me, I'd get Miyoo Mini+ for about half the money, and buy an ok Memory card and pocket the change.
Hi, I have it on my Ayaneo Air now. Its a little bit hot. Over 60 degrees in steam UI. The fan is a little bit too slow. Is there a way to change the fan curve?
You could try Deckyloader and see if there is an app like Fantastic that might let you tweak the fan curve. If that doesn't work I've been trying to daily Bazzite instead of Steam Fork, its mostly working out ok, especially as it seems most of the issues were "me problems" that I've worked around. 🤣
I might have to try this :) i have the old anbernic steamos on my win600 but no tdp control hurts, battery on this aint fun xD This looks pretty tempting :)
You might also want to try out Bazzite. Which I've more recently been testing with both my Win600 and my GPD Win4. Still can't use the menu/select button properly on Win600 but it works well otherwise.
Well sure comparing a $300, 2024 model with a 2022 model will result in the old ones price being about the same as the new one with better performance. The Win 600 was never really a good budget option because it landed just before the Steam deck which moved on the market greatly. But these days you can pick up a second hand Win 600 for buttons making it an "ok" option for emulation or light older games. That said the Neo Lite isn't a great proposition in 2024, its kinda like this years version of the Win 600. Might be better buying a 1 year old more premium model, or just spending $50 more on a Steam Deck.
@@handheldgaming4lifeI own the LCD Steam Deck but just got the win600 3050e 16gb 1tb version with an Xbox controller and all the tv output stuff or $150. Going to put Steam os on it
