2-3% of stearic acid will keep any kind of butter from melting. I use it at 3% and never looked back. If you are using cocoa butter or kokum butter you only need about 2% unless you want super firm body butter (like a treatment butter).
Love these deep dives!! They have been amazing! Thank you for sharing!! I have been getting into various gelling and stabilising agents and have come across Sepinov EMT 10, it’s amazing at light emulsification and amazing stability! I was wondering if you have ever used it? If you have, do you have any formulating recommendations for lotions or gel creams?
Thanks so much with the info! I love stearic acid and the lovely thickening it provides. One hurdle I’m facing with my emulsifies body butter formulations is soaping effect when rubbing the cream in. I’m going bonkers trying to solve the problem because I don’t think it’s esthetically pleasing. Is stearic acid the culprit? I’ve tried the HLB calculators and my formulations don’t balance. Any advice would be amazing! Thx and I love your content! 😀
Watching this was perfect timing for me. I have a creamy body oil that I formulated and used Lipidthix to thicken the oils. A bit pricey, but the end result was perfect. I always have stearic acid on hand and it's more bang for my buck compared to Lipidthix. I tried it with my formulation and it turned out just as perfect. Once again, thank you for the extremely helpful information 👍
Thanks for sharing the stearic acid details. I bought some a while back, but afraid to try it in soaps. Now it's on, next batch is going to be stearic acid included. Can't wait to try it, so thank you again for the help I needed. 😍 😍
I would like to take an existing whipped body butter recipe and add Stearic Acid & Cetyl Alcohol to it to help keep it from melting as easily in the Texas heat. The recipe is about 44% butters (22% shea, 8% cocoa & 14% mango); 45% oils (8% jojoba, 22% coconut, 14% grapeseed & a squeeze of vitamin E); 8% arrowroot powder; 3% fragrance (assuming you count arrowroot & fragrance -I'm a newbie so I'm not sure). Should I use 2% or 3% (or more) of stearic acid? What about cetyl alcohol? Anyone know?
Hi Brandi! You have coco butter in formulation which is a hard butter so start with 2% Stearic Acid. Anhydrous butters need 3%max of Stearic Acid. You also may want to increase the butters phase and reduce the oils phase
Great video, thanks! Does Stearic Acid at 2% have a soaping effect? Or could it be something else? The video does not show soaping even at much higher percentages. Thanks!
You’re from Calgary !! I’m from Calgary I’ve been watching you for weeks now and had no clue. Keep up the great work. Learning a lot by watching videos as I own my own skincare company.
Does this formulation look right? I want an efficient deodorant that is properly solid and easy to apply that doesn't leave marks on the skin or clothes... 15% Shea/Mango Butter 15% Cocoa/Kokum Butter 15% Caprylic Oil 3% Zinc Ricinoleate 5-30% Magnesium Hydroxide 20% Stearic Acid 8-24% Corn Starch 1% Zinc Oxide 1% Geranium EO 0.5% Vanilla EO 0.5% Vitamin E
Can someone help me with these questions please? ❤️ Is it true that stearic acid clogs pores? Is it true that stearic acid is good for dry skin, but does it irritate oily skin? I appreciate your help ❤️
Thank you for making this video🙏🏽 can you talk about optiphen? I want to use a preservative for my body butters but I don’t know which preservative is right 😭
Thanks for watching! I have a pretty good amount of information about preservatives in the FAQ (www.humblebeeandme.com/faq/); I recommend checking it out :) Anhydrous body butters don't need preservatives, so if you aren't using water you don't need one at all. Happy making!
I need to make a a body butter with stearic acid and be able to decorate it with pipping bag What percent l have tried and failed l need it to be harder and easily melt on the skin l also what it not to be runny Please help
@@firdowskruger9896 Thanks for responding! and does 4% keeps it stable in the summer as well? I just used it at 3% with mafura and mango butter and 2% Cetyl alcohol. Beautiful and silky. Wish it was summer so I see how it behaves. But will try 4% and see
How would you add Stearic acid and cetyl alcohol together in a emulsified body butter containing water? I’ve seen popular brand like raw sugar use Both, I’ve experimented and just can’t get that perfect consistency that I like I want it to be more slippery not waxy like, a product that doesn’t feel like it’s too heavy.
I’ve combed your site and I’m DESPERATELY trying to find a formulation that uses stearic acid and cetyl alcohol in a butter (anhydrous). It’s mentioned but maybe I’m overlooking it😩😩😩
Hi this is my first comment to your vide, i have a question, can i mix it olive oil like you did with sunflower oil coz i don't have sunflower oil but an olive oil.
I started mixing stearic acid 5% with the coconut oil as a carrier oil and put 4% fragrance oil what i have noticed with the hot weather in my country i saw that the mixture melted and became oily should i increase the stearic acid percentage to become solide ?
That's a great big "it depends" :) There's nothing wrong with 20%, but whether or not it works for you/you like it will depend on everything else that's going on in the formulation. Try it and see ❤️
I'm gonna try making my own stearic acid. I have some hydrogenated soybean oil, which is mostly made of stearic acid triglyceride, and I think I can separate out the fatty acids from the glycerin backbone.
I know you had a video where you incorporate cetyl alcohol to stearic acid to make a cream recipe. Could you give a 2-3 ingredient cream with these ingredients pretty please.
Thank you so much for generously sharing your knowledge, expertise, gifts, talents, abilities, extraordinary videography visual teaching skills. Appreciate all your time, effort, and work very much. Learning curve exponential on each video. Mucho Gracias
I use stearic acid for body butter. I recently discovered Glyceryl dibehenate and thus got the opportunity to turn any oil into butter. The feeling on the skin is perfect.
I loooove those series so much😍😍You are amazing!!! I woud really love if you can make a video for every type of emulsifying wax (nonionic, anionic,ionic..). And for what are they used for. I do have difriend kinds and dont know for what i can use them and for what i cant . For allot of people this is really confusing and i know that you can explain it the best ❤.
Question: If anyone would be kind to answer (I know this is irrelevant, but) does anyone know what type of colorant I can use to color body oil? Mica falls to the bottom, and I'm sure I'll need some kind of oil soluble lake or dye but not sure which?
I been trying so hard to get the 50 dollar plan on patreon but is totally sold out . is there any other way of talking to yo for 30 min really love the Chanel
Yesss! This video came right on time 😊 I’m looking to formulate a lotion bar with stearin acid! Does anyone know palm free steric acid suppliers for US?
I don't know of any, but googling "palm free stearic acid USA" is probably a good place to start :) You can also look for RSPO stearic acid. Happy making!
No to first question, and check the INCI for the second :) Have you read up on both stearic acid and emulsifying wax NF in the Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia (www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia/)? They do dramatically different jobs in our formulations and once you learn more you will understand why they cannot be used for one another. Happy making!
Hello, you are an angel, thanks for the video Marie. Can I ask you something? Can I use Stearic Acid for body butter made with only oils and butters? No water in the formula. Thank you ☺️
Wait a minute....if our Shea butter, Cocoa butter, Mango butter etc. Already comes with Steric acid in it, then why on all the labels says "Pure shea Butter made from seeds" etc. Etc. ?🤔
@@HumblebeeAndMe wow I learned something new today. And having known this, one needs to consider the amount of steric acid in each recipe. I wondered why using the same amount of steric and getting different results depending on how much Mango, Shea, cocoa butter I used. Thank you 😊 💙
I have never worked with anything from Hobby Lobby, but you aren't going to be able to incorporate steric acid into any finished lotion base. Stearic acid needs to be incorporated into the lotion before it is emulsified as an original part of the formulation.
halfway into the video I knew stearic acid was going to be the partner to my glycerol and peg 100 stearate. Thanks for confirming. However I just started using safflower oil straight for my aging eyelids 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Safflower oil is supposed to penetrate (due to its molecular weight). Do you know how the stearic acid will affect absorption of the oil? There is no doubt using the oil plain is messier than turning it into a butter.
