Understanding how to use terrain to your advantage is going to be critical in keeping your units alive and winning the game. In this guide I'm going to show you what to pay attention to and how you can read the terrain.
Have something to add? Please leave CONSTRUCTIVE comments down below!
Have a request for another guide? Let me know and I'll look into making it for you.

An important skill to build up over time when looking at maps is to be able to read the movement and timing. - This is something that applies to nearly all combat focused games, and is a key difference between 'camping', and using strategy, tactics, and skill. Rushing as far forward as you can, or moving as far into the 'best' defensive positions possible is not always your best choice. At times, depending on the map, opponent, and the pieces in play, it may be far more effective to hold back on your initial movements to offer less resistance to the opponent, and encourage him to over-extend on their opening move. Holding well short of the mid line in strong defensive positions can look like 'camping' to some, but with careful timing and planning it becomes keeping a short resupply line so you can reinforce your initial wave while luring an opponent's first wave into a questionable position that lets you more easily counter it. From there you can use your reinforced units to destroy a large chunk of the opposition as an opening move before advancing, and attacking their reinforcements that still haven't made it to the front line, and (where the key to the timing comes in) hopefully while they are still out of position and vulnerable to attack.

I just recently got this game and I am learning how to play it. This video is damn good not only for beginners but also for those who do know how to play the game, but have not really thought through their battles especially with regards to terrain. Seriously, your video and comments are so instructive and are of a high standard. I feel as if I am an officer in a real war, attending a military briefing! Best explanatory video I have ever seen for a strategy game like this!

Thank you for this. One of the best tutorials I've seen for any RTS. I love strategy games but tend to get overwhelmed. This was very, very helpful

Another addition to infantry utilization in the terrain. Multiple hedgerows can allow you to creep infantry units up. Whether it be along a whole field edge or hopping across fields one by one into the foliage on the boundaries. Inf units are practically invisible unless they run out into the open or into a defender infantry unit. If I know that a certain pathway of hedges aren't heavily manned. Use arty to clear hedgerows of hiding infantry. Push my guys up right behind the creeping barrage, move them all the way up to enemy AT units. Once the AT chokepoints have been cleared, I can move my tanks up. Good methodical approach. So when you see long lines of hedgeows all joined together, that's a good opportunity

not sure how well it works against players but against medium ai it does work well. > there are several yellow brush lines on colombelle > place 1maschinegun in it that is in range of attacking enemy woods > support the maschinegun with 1 spotter (vision) and 1 officer (acc and moral) behind it > set up 1 or 2 at guns in a line behind the maschinegun >>> wait for enemy tanks to try to push out the mg and get destroyed.

Really helpful guide. I truly suck at this game. Especially if the enemy is set to anything harder than easy.

It's a tough game. Give yourself time to learn. I know it's easy to beat yourself up over a game (I do it anyway) but it just takes time. I still struggle with Steel Division 2.

Thx, for the great Video. I am new to Steel Division and Wargame and try to not be a complet loss for my team. Not always with success. Do you know where I can find guys to play Steel Division with? All of my friends do not have the game and i think a Partner would really help me, get a grip on this game.

You can try posting in the official forums or the subreddit should be pretty easy to find some new friends.

How do you do a 1v1 on a 4v4 map?
@asneakychicken322
@asneakychicken322 7 лет назад
Doomstitch same as in Wargame, pick a 4v4 map and just load it up with you and one enemy either a player or an AI. Although if you mean how do you practically play on it it's going to be difficult

Disagree. When I started Wargame I didn't really know what to look for. There are still people out here who aren't used to these types of games. This video was just not for you, you are just more advanced than this.

Yup, I am one of those people. I just recently got Wargame working and I really have no clue what I'm doing. I can't even win a battle in the easy solo campaign. Steel Division looks a tiny bit more straightforward for me since I'm more familiar with World War II, but I think these tips will be a great help.
