Steelcase Reply Ergonomic Chair Review - Does A More Adjustable Office Chair Cause A Better Posture?

The Steelcase Reply chair is an entry-level, rather cheap ergonomic chair. On the model that I test, there are very few adjustment possibilities: seat height, backrest angle, tilt resistance and height of the armrests.
If you work from home (WFH) or work in an office with a hotdesking policy / a coworking space, this chair may be well adapted... with a few limitations if you don't want to have low back pain or neck pain, though!
As you will see (again!), choosing the bets office chair is not always that simple...
One more thing that I didn't mention in the video: beware hard plastic armrests. They can cause nerve compression in the elbow (ulnar nerve entrapment).

I'd like to see a review on the Ikea Markus and how to make it less damaging on the back. It's often recommended as a good budget office chair, but I think the lumbar support actually aggravates any lower back pain.

I will go and sit on it at Ikea as soon as I find the time too… but visually, my impression is that the backrest is far away, too soft and with a mini lumbar support. If you want to check your posture, feel free to send me a pic of you on it, mate!

@@OlivierGirard Thank you. Yeah, they usually excuse the chair not being ergonomic by saying it's made for tall people, but I'm 186cm and it still hurts my back. Though I do have a lot of bad habits aside from the chair and some built up damage from overdoing weightlifting. Adding a thick ish pillow to act as lumbar support sort of helps. hm maybe it hurt my back, because the backrest is too far and that makes me slouch. Not quite ready to send pictures of my situation, because it's quite poor, but maybe some day. And thanks for your videos, slowly I learn how to treat my body better. The tips from the walking video and the sleeping tip - putting pillow under thigh when resting on back helped me a lot.

Hey mate, how are you doing? I was this week at a client who uses the Ikea Markus chair... so I could test it for you. My diagnosis is that - the seat is super deep (i.e. small people won't ever touch the backrest) - the backrest is quite angled backwards (somehow, like my own Kinnarps Plus 8)... BUT this can only work in combination with a very supportive lumbar support, which is not present on the Markus. The combination of the mesh and the foam bar is way too weak - the armrests are hard and can cause pressure points in the elbows (near the ulnar nerve). Furthermore, they hit the desk when you want to turn your chair. Definitely, it isn't a chair that I would recommend, because it fails on the most important criteria which is the quality of the lumbar support... Hope this helps!!

Thank you for you detailed review! I am only 5"3 and work from home, do you think this chair would be too deep for me to sit for >8 hours? What chair do you recommend?

My friend... your question is a great one. The thing is that I cannot answer: seat depth is determined by the length of your thighs, which isn't proportional to your height. To make things more complex, not every chair is distributed everywhere. If there's a Kinnarps dealer close to you, check ou the 5000 with a foam backrest. If not, you really need to physically sit on the chair before you buy it.

these are really different chairs... we're talking about a price ratio 1:3 or so. Reply has many less adjustments, but that makes it also easier to use. I think Reply is a great chair for groups (e.g. if you want to create a flexdesk environment) whilst Aeron is an individual chair. Generally speaking (and I know many of those who'll read this will disagree), I find Herman Miller overpriced: Steelcase, Kinnarps, Dauphin are better quality-price ratios.

Bonjour et merci pour cette review, j'ai trouvé cette chaise en neuve pour 280€ sur Leboncoin, j'aimerais remplacer ma chase "Gaming" Noblechairs que je n'aime pas beaucoup. Je mesure 1m84 donc je pense que je n'aurais de problème pour m'installer bien au fond de la chaise sans gêne. Vous me conseillez de l'acheter ? J'aimerais acheter la Herman Miller embody mais je n'ai pas les moyens financiers

@@MrGrimtyr Oh super, n'hésite pas à me dire ce que tu penses de cette chaise, perso je cherche surtout une chaise confortable et des bons accoudoirs permettant pour les longues sessions sur l'ordi

@@samsma5381 alors review à chaud sur une soirée, l'assise est quand même assez dur il ne faut pas s'attendre à un coussin de canapé, les accoudoirs sont réglables en hauteur et ils sont larges. Une fois bien réglé, le soutien lombaire fait bien son travail, la hauteur de l'assise aussi est parfaite pour ta taille. Maintenant pour les défauts, je trouve qu'elle fait un peu fragile pendant le réglage, j'ai un peu de mal à trouver quand enclencher pour que ça tienne ( mais j'ai pris la mienne d'occasion ) et évidemment il n'y a pas s'appuie tête c'est un peu dommage si on veut s'affaler, voilà ! J'essayerai de faire une autre review dans quelques temps
