I review the Steeldive 1970. It’s an homage to the Seiko Captain Willard! *images used in accordance with the Fair Use Act. Portions of this video from: www.videezy.com/
I have one of the original Seiko watches that was my daily wear for almost 30 years until it finally gave out and I was told it could no longer be repaired. I recently purchased the Steeldive version and I can only say I love it! It's just an amazing watch at a fraction of the price of the original.
As usual, you had me rolling. I have to get one of these watches. I swear the more I watch these reviews of Seikos and the homages, I’m not sure I need to spend the money on a Seiko to have it all misaligned and wonkey.
Great intro! We all know you meant 6105-8110 homage, not 6309. 😂 Thanks for the review. Trying to decide if I need one of these, also. I've got the Rdunae 6105-8000, and I absolutely love it. The tropic strap it came on is the most comfortable thing ever. I think they look so much better on the replica straps than on the bracelet.
I thought I clicked on a Mission Impossible trailer. Epic intro, thorough review, insightful comments on Seiko, honest opinions. Thanks Chris. I wish you a speedy recovery from the injury.
With the endlinks, invest in some better springbars that are a little thicker.. it takes the jangle away! Excellent watch, and review. I just picked one up and i'm very impressed.
I have this piece and it's one of my favorite watches. This watch is a tank, I got a green NATO strap and a black rubber band to replace the original bracelet. My 17 year old son felt in love with it So I gave it to him for his birthday and now I have to get a new one.
Have owned one of these since June last year absolutely great value Agree about the end links so I have been wearing it on a beads of rice bracelet from Watch Gecko since I got it
Great video 👍 mines arrived today from steeldive UK and it really is an excellent watch for the money. £109 on the waffle strap , Lume is fantastic and the sapphire shines so well.
Been thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these for a while and for all your UK viewers, there's a UK store now, started by a gent that used to sell them on eBay UK so instead of waiting from China you now have an opinion to get within the week 😃👌 steeldive UK 🙂
@@watchmegobroke4365 ok you pay a little more but, they do this one on a waffle for £109 and you're not gonna wait a month to get it, obviously cheaper if you want a regular rubber type dive strap but it's great you have a proper store in the UK especially if you have a problem with said product 🙂 loved that intro😂 sooooo funny😃👌
Loved your intro! That was awesome. Nice review, too, though. I bought all three colors of this watch, kept the blue one and sold the others. It really is one of THE best values out there! Yes, the lume is THAT good...just as you said. Lasts all night. Can’t take this watch off. Haven’t done my review yet, but you basically just did it! Ha! Thanks for the video...
I so wanted to buy the Capt Willard, but did not want to roll the dice on potential misalignment issues. I picked up the SD1970 a few months back, and I love it. Everything lines up and I currently have it on a Strapcode SuperOyster. I still want the olive drab Willard, but I will not make the purchase unless I can physically inspect it in person.
I bought one of these at the beginning of the year, couldn't agree more with you on the bracelet, hat to take a file to those endlinks! That said once they were filed and rebrushed, a milled clasp added, the bracelet is at least serviceable. The watch head tho' is really very good. Everything works, great bezel and crown action/feel and the NH35 movement keeps time with incredible accuracy, (kept fully wound) it's never gained more than 5 secs in a week and manages 2-3 secs most of the time making this the most accurate of all my NH35A powered watches. Looks great on a NATO or the waffle rubber strap. Something of a bargain. I'm looking at adding one of their Fifty Fathom homages to my collection next. Great intro!
I got one on the same strap, love it If you like that and want another steeldive, go for the tuna, incredible vfm the same as the Willard, Keep up the great vids
Good things come to those who are on the back end of things, they cost $55 today in 2024 and have updated the whole thing to a better higher quality watch ... well worth the price.
I kind of see what Seiko is doing. They understand that these homages are going to exist with or without their NH35 movement. They might as well sell them the movements and make money on all of the homage sales. It’s a fair trade off. They get to sell their movements without any of the labor and assemble costs. It’s a money maker.
Okay. You have convinced me. Bought it from watchdives and then came back to finish the video. I'll let you know about my experience with the seller when the watch arrives.
Arrived in my city in 4 days with free DHL shipping. Took another 7 days to clear Indian customs. They will recommend declaring full price in order to clear customs without hassle, so you will pay full customs duties (which in India is 50%). I can recommend the watchdives store from my experience. The faux-three-link steel bracelet is okay. The rubber dive strap is stiff but very good. Looks durable and will accommodate the fat 2.5mm Seiko spring bars. Do not bother with any of the other straps on that store.
They make a $90 sub homage that’s real hard to beat....same bracelet issue but it really is a fantastic watch. They have a few weird dial options but the marine one is pretty clean. Awesome BGW9 lume on it as well...highly recommended for around $90. I think the website is watchdives.com
@@PETERJOHN101 i mean most things are made within China, even parts of the device you used to type your "amazing" comment so I don't get what exactly the issue is?
I don't think you've got it right saying the business model is wrong, particularly about a company that's been going strong since 1881. I reckon they've got a pretty good idea about what they're at. Another example is Samsung, in business since 1938, a multi billionaire dollar organisation that also supplies its screen and memories technology to its biggest rival, Apple. People say, there would be no Apple without Samsung technologies. They also supply screen, mobile cameras and chips to cheaper Chinese phone brands. I don't think you or I know enough about business practices to call a strategy of a super successful company flawed in some way. İt's a simplistic analysis. For all we know Seiko could be making more profit from the millions of N35 and N36 movements they make every year, and that's before the even bigger business of their quartz movements, than they do from their own watches.
Oh....I didn’t realize they downgraded the lume ....disappointed....I wish someone would updated the review and told me that before I just placed a black one last week....now I can’t cancel it. Shxt! Hate it....that’s why I hate buying any Chinese brands....inconsistency all over their products.
I purchased off of ebay from SteelDive watches. They don’t have any listings currently. You can search ebay for Steeldive 1970 or steel dives website: steeldives.com.
I have a newer version of this and I think they downgraded the markers on the dial with weaker lume. It was like $95 though so I'm not gonna complain so much.
Oh....I didn’t realize this....disappointed....I wish someone would updated the review and told me that before I just placed a black one last week....now I can’t cancel it. Shxt!
Will a seiko original dialnfotninnamd case back yeah! Looks like daffy duck on acid wearing a feiko logo swish copy from maker of all copy cats china and covid what a combo!
Only thing I'd change in that intro is if right at the end when you are doubled over in pain they shot you a second time in the ass ... followed by a close up of your face eyes wide in Shock and surprise. Just saying Speilberg and Tarantino would have done it ... Picked up the Steeldive 1970 over the holidays, I got it on a NATO so I can reuse the NATO strap and then picked up a waffle strap for it. Loving it.
No one use dive watches for scuba diving ..... I don't know one diver who does...we all use dive computers.... water resistance can be 5 bars and you could scuba dive with it...
And tropic straps? I think you and I have found them at the same time and their glorious! Try it on the citizen NY0040 in your collection! It transforms the watch!
If its on a bracelet it should be able to be removed during sizing or by popping out the clasp springbar. Most of the time it’s just tied on there in a way where you can u can untie it. I was just impatient!
The buissnenmodel is not that bad as you say. I would totally by this watch for 150 US Päsos but not EVER buy a watch for over 1000 US Päsos. I don't think Seiko misses out on Money there. In kontrary, they selling movements/licence like hotcaces.
Wait-a-minnit! Was that intro meant to take a dig at the Nick Kenyon article on Time & Tide? or at all of us "desk divers" who absolutely have to have a watch with proven military performance? 😂 Hilarious
Steeldive does not the best quality control, there are pretty good bracelets, and some crappy ones. I agree, the watch is great and it looks best on a mesh bracelet.
No, they are not great....you just lucky to get their first loads of door crashes to hook people in then they downgraded the second shipment to forward and that is how they cheat and make their money back....now you know why they can make it so cheap seemingly in the first place.....each shipment quality and value would be worse than the last.....you’re just the lucky one to get their” hooker” first shipment! Same with the” legendary” “ seemingly “ always out of stock and impossible to find Phylida Speedmaster homage with real Seagull chronograph movement! They released few for the reviewers to hook people in then once people went to purchase that great specs watch then they said it all gone but you can buy the lesser version with almost the same price.....good old Chinese Hustler hooker trick! Steeldive, Phylida.....all the same!
