I'm torn on this whole cam Hayward extension topic. It's the age and durability that is most concerning. I can't get past the fact that he needs a day off of practice every week. But, he's productive in games and he's a leader. Still, he's not unreplacable. Extend him with a team friendly deal or let him walk. It's just the way it has to be.

I see restructuring this contract into a 3 year deal, but with no guaranteed money after year 2. The Steelers need to draft Michigan D.T. Mason Graham in the 1st round 2025 draft. Graham would immediately be that next great franchise D.T. for the next 10 years.

I dont get the russ hate in the media. His play took down mahomes, allen, cousins, etc last year with a less talanted offense and team. How is 29 total TDs equate to being washed up, considering 3 out of the last 4 years he has 25+ TDs, with one being 40.

I love Cam & everything he's done for the organization but what type of extension are the Steelers looking to give him? Is it for past or future performance? Calais Campbell's contract with Baltimore at Cam's current age was 2yrs 12.5 mil and got one yr for 7mil from Atl last yr. Aging veterans have always been a sticky situation with this team. They can't hamstring their future on a player who can't live up to the contract

Cam deserves a contract that reflects not only his skill as a player, but as the leader of the team, and the impact he has on the community. Losing him would be a major blow, and having him not 100% in this year is gonna hurt the team more than most care to admit, especially if the Steelers are gonna make a run this year.

Crazy that you said: Yes he was hurt last year (he basically did nothing)but he had double digit sacks the two years before. One thing Jenna said can relate to is telling our lawyers that we’re holding out until we get more money. Even in union contracts they negotiate or stipulate if members are allowed to sit out during wage negotiations. So I think this is where sports and athletes have a major difference in the real world., These guys are putting themselves through car accidents every day to provide us with entertainment that most of us look forward to every week. Why would Cam Heyward not be willing to take a pay cut, and then Big Ben took a pay cut for Cam to get his last deal? About 15 to 16 mill sounds about right for him considering his age and being hurt last year. We all have Cam because he's a leader for sure, but there definitely comes a time when you're on the other side of your career and you need to be team friendly. Elite players that we had we forced retirement or move on (#43, and #7) and others, Cam is nowhere near their level. However, I hope it works out.

I don’t get it, no one should be surprised by this. It was already talked about here and there well before the draft and here’s the thing everybody is talking about his age cause I know I did, but once again defensive lineman was an afterthought in another draft so that’s his leverage, why wouldn’t it be? There’s no one else on the roster that can fill that void not only that the Steelers don’t care about his age dude balls out every time he’s on the field so they’re gonna sign him. I’m expecting a two-year extension at about 12 per maybe 15

Man I love heyward but this is his time to step up and be a leader. He’s been payed through his career, he’s been great for us but the fact is is he wants too much coming off an injury and being that old. He’s talked about other people that are making money and need to take paycuts to upgrade the roster, now he has a change of heart when it’s him? I love cam but we’re already paying Larry probably double what he’s worth. We can’t pay heyward too. Cam Hayward, is in his final years as a Steeler when the body gets old it starts to break down. I would not invest to much in him, he has been very successful and has had a great career as a Steeler but he has been injury prone in the last few years and he is very very wealthy.
