Not even Fairport when Sandy Denny was with them? 😉They crapped out after she left but I think they were as good if not better than Steeleye. I saw Steeleye around the time of this tour and had the pleasure of meeting Maddy, Tim, Rick and Peter.

Saw this line up twice in Brisbane, Australia. In 1975 and, then, after their reunion in 1982. Magic both times. Our kids grew up on this stuff. In fact, the youngest was less than a year old when we took him to the 1982 concert - we couldn't get a babysitter and weren't going to miss the gig.

@@dugwolfe That's really kind of you. Maddie's last gig!? She's not singing on the other 2022 tour dates? I'll have missed out on something special there. I did have an idea a while back to head over in October and catch one of the dates, but the COVID situation makes any planning tricky. I have a "local" bar here where the bar-master, after learning I was British, asked if I like Steeleye Span! I was flabbergasted. A Japanese bar owner knew Steeleye Span! His bar plays mostly UK prog rock but also folk. They have fans everywhere! Enjoy the show!

This really is when the classic line-up (Maddy, Peter, Tim, Rick. Bob and Nigel) were at their peak both in popularity and musical creativity. I saw them at Hammersmith Odeon one December and they gave away the box office receipts to the audience as a Christmas present! Pound notes rained down on us all and I collected enough to pay for my ticket!

Thank you for posting this performance of steeleye Span. I was lucky enough to see this line-up a couple of years later and is still the best gig I've been to. The band, for me, were always so rooted in their folk/rock mastery and could sing and play with more real soul then any of them. However, since this line-up changed they have lost that mo-jo.

I was told that in Scotland in the old days, a groom would kidnap his bride to be and come dressed as a gypsy. There are a zillion variants of this song. I do one out of No. Carolina called Gypsum Davy. Also The Raggle Taggle Gypsies, O. Very nice version from Steeleye. Also, you can find Martin Carthy, Norma Waterson & Eliza Carthy doing Raggle Taggle Gypsies O.

Hi Noxema. I saw them at the Forum also. It was Jethro Tull's "A Passion Play" tour in July of 1973. I had never heard of Steeleye Span before. When they opened their set they were all wearing costumes that looked sort of like colorful Christmas trees and they were twirling around as the music started. Definitely got my attention. Then the costumes came off and they did a lovely set. Great show. And of course Jethro Tull was unbelievable.
