There's nothing intelligent nor insightful. He's wrong. He served poorly at only 61% 1st serves in. Against Alcaraz he never serves well for some reason and Alcaraz serves better than God(73% 1st serves in). Why is that? It's Stef respecting Carlos too much. If Stef fixes that serve he won't be broken, and when he doesn't get broken Carlos will have more pressure and will serve worse. Stef is just handing him the match.

Still, I’ve been harping for years with Stefanos that he needs to pull a page out of McEnroe’s and Sampras’ playbooks and really force the issue with the serve and volley and net charging in general. He was something like 74% win ratio at the net today which is a huge margin at this level. He’s got the hand skills and can make Carlos extremely uncomfortable when rushed even if he knows it’s coming he’s got to pull off the perfect shot. Honest account by stef. I think he can beat carlos. Its just a mental block some players have against other players theyve never beaten.

i think there were some good elements on display in the 2nd and 3rd set (better backhand returns, some good volleying to finish off points) but when it came to crunch time you could see the difference in confidence. Carlos would make the right decisions, Stefanos rushed things and missed.

Just thinking about this match, I see Carlos drilling up the line winners from both sides, Stef, not at all. He needs flat drill shots, and less of the loopy topspin shots.

Somehow he has to stop his backhand being so attackable by Alcaraz/Sinner/Djokovic/Fritz etc. His b/h slice isn't really a world class shot which is a shame.

Really let him down today didn’t it. So many errors on that side. Shame
@alexlackner1945
@alexlackner1945 Месяц назад
@@MS-vx1xt nothing new. the combination of speed & spin from Carlos exploits his backhand weakness, but also makes it very hard to run around and use his forehand. But there's also a big mental component. He feels powerless and starts to rush things and make uncharacteristic mistakes.
@eripley481
@eripley481 Месяц назад
I think a two handed backhand would be better for him. He hasn't been able to refine it the way Federer and Wawrinka did, he shanks it too often and loses points that he shouldn't have.
@ps-bi2sr
@ps-bi2sr Месяц назад
Good point - For the one hand backhanders, I'm surprised they don't analyze Stan Wawrinka's bullet like backhand winners.....when it's on it's as lethal as any shot in Men's today, and no reason Stef couldn't adopt that.

Great players always have plans b, c and even d and have the foresight to reinvent. Tsitsipas doesn't (except for a toilet break) and it will get worse as other players catch-up with his monotone. Unless he realises he has to diversify and get himself a proper technical director to sort out his baggage and his tools, we will always hear him at his interviews repeating that he believes he is a great player, who loses and doesn't know why he gets beaten :-I He's either unwilling to go back to the drawing board or doesn't have anyone around him telling him what a drawing board is :-I

Tsisipas has shown more maturity lately but deep inside I think he does not recognize the greatness of his rivals. In 3:37 his subconscious betrayed him and referred to Carlos as "the kid".
