I don’t think it’s fair to say that Graf played terribly at this tournament, though she certainly played inconsistently. This match was a scrappy affair, as was the final against Novotna. However, Graf played well enough in the early rounds (including a 6:0 6:0 victory over Helen Kelesi - who was a decent player) and she played solidly to beat Capriati in straight sets in the quarterfinals.

No, Steffi won that set on her own. You have to watch before your comment, kid.

She was beautiful to watch but yes prone to brainleaks.

It also didn't help that she was up against that player called Steffi Graf, who knew a thing or two about playing tennis.

Martinez did not play poorly here at all.

She played well here but Graf was better. Navratilova though a year later looked her 37 year old self and lost deservedly

Martinez played better here than in the 94 final.
