I just picked up the 42mm. BTW the lug to lug on the 42mm is 49mm. Sits great on my 7.5" wrist. I agree when you see the ceramic bezel in person it makes the watch. Must have for Magnum PI fans. I set it to the atomic clock and still spot on after a couple days. I sized the bracelet in 10 minuets with a quality micro screwdriver. Great value and going to be a keeper. I went with the oyster bracelet version.
Oh good to know it is only 49mm. I could probably pull of the 42mm then, but I have found I gravitate toward 39mm watches. I agree, definitely a keeper and an excellent value.
I've been doing watches 45 years n never heard of anyone buying a watch because they are a magnum PI fan. Doesn't happen. Not even cool to consider. Even less cool to actually voice it. In fact just do not speak of it again. Fudgedaboudit
@@picassoboy52 besides the Steinhart aluminum would be closer to the Rolex Magnum was wearing. The ceramic is way more modern and shiny. I just ordered the aluminum one. And definitely not because of Magnum PI haha
Own this exact watch. It's been about 6 months and have no complaints. Guy in vid commented a few times on color scheme. I agree with him. It pops. It is of the highest quality - right up there with all diver watches $2k and below (and a fair number above that price). Why pay more?
Great review, thanks! In November I will buy my first watch and it will be a Steinhart. It will very probably be the Ocean 39 GMT Black Ceramic (I buy the Jubilee bracelet), because I want to have an allrounder in color first. But when I see the Pepsi, I start to rave about it 😁 Very nice watch! Have fun!
The black ceramic will be more versatile! The pepsi is fun, but sort of limits what I can wear it with (although these days the rules around when to wear what kind of watch are super relaxed). Great first choice, you are going to love it.
The black ceramic gmt 39mm has the vintage look as well, I want one myself, I have a pepsi 39, but aluminum bezel, but I would love the ceramic version!!! They just come out with a 39mm two tone sub style black and gold with ceramic bezel it is fantastic!!!
i bought 6 Steinharts for the price of one rolex very nice i liked the fact i got a variety pack instead of one i got 6 nice watches and if i loose one it wont break me why keep all your cash on just one watch sure if you got the cash to splash i can understand that but for the average person one cant afford to loose 10k all on one watch and the variety and hand well do i need to say more these watches are just quality which every model you go with you will be happy and the resale of it should be the same if kept well thanks for the vid hope to see more and to whom ever is planning on buying one of these jewels hope this helps with your purchase but all in all its only comes to one person your to be happy with your choice just have fun with it ... have a great week all
This is my philosophy too. I could technically sell my whole collection for one luxury watch, but I love the variety. Definitely agree on Steinhart quality. Have a nice week as well!
Superb piece and walkthrough, thank you! How is it holding up? It seems that Steinhart released a GMT Black / Red (Coke) version as well. Both look stunning, now it's hard to decided which one to get.
Holding up perfectly. It keeps phenomenal time. Maybe -1 sec a day or less. Yes, I was waiting for a Ceramic Coke for so long. Impossible choice I think!
I was just at Gnomon watches today. Tried on most of the GMT models including this exact one on the jubilee. One thing I noticed is how loud and bright this looks under the store lighting. Looks great but it's like saying to people, "hey check out my watch" .. Lol. I love subtlety so this one, especially on the jubilee is a no for me. So flashy. But it does look good. After looking through various GMT models, coke, pepsi, batman... I ended up buying the batman. Almost bought the coke though which is slightly more subtle than the pepsi, but I'm a sucker for blue and the batman was the most subtle one. So batman it is 😊
@@JustWatches1 The benefits of staying in Singapore I guess and the only place to buy Steinhart watches here. Gnomon Watches is about a 45 mins train ride from my place 👌🏼
@@imranbecks that's awesome you can just go straight to the store to try these watches on your wrist. That's so much better than the guessing game played online through photo recreations lol
Great review, I have a decent job and a modest collection with omega and tags, but honestly the Rolex is out of reach of a normal guy with bills to pay now…. This will satisfy the itch!
Great review, love the short and to the point reviews. Darn, another watch to add to my bucket list. You have a subscriber in me. Best regards from San Juan, Puerto Rico, stay safe.
Great review and lovely watch! I just got my first Steinhart too, went for the Ocean 39 GMT Premium 500. Like you, I could feel the quality oozing through the second I held mine. Fantastic pieces!
@@JustWatches1 Thanks! That's exactly why I got that version, it had just the right mixture of homage and original cues. Eyeing the OVM39 next - think I've been bitten by the Steinhart bug.
I currently own 2 Steinharts and have in the past owned 2 others and I’ve never experienced an overly tight bezel or have I heard anywhere about a recurring problem with tight bezels?
Thanks for sharing. Good review! my answer to movement. yes it is 100% swiss. ETA make them.Swiss movement manufacturer ETA SA has been developing and producing calibres for the watch industry since 1793 the company is headquartered in Grenchen, Switzerland,
This will be my next watch! Always wanted a Pepsi diver! Wish I had gotten the skx009 before they discontinued it. If I was very rich I’d get a Rolex gmt master ii, but instead this steinhart is the best option imo
I love how the bezel color seems vibrant even if it's ceramic. The rolex Pepsi gmt does definitely look great, but it does have darker blue and red, and a thick Lugs and crown guards... It unfortunately makes the watch look a bit chunky. This Steinhart seems to pay homage more on the vintage style rolex, which does look more elegant and vibrant. Gonna get this by trading another watch tomorrow :D
That's funny. I was thinking the exact opposite. I prefer the darker color on the new Rolex. But I guess hard to know from photos and videos. I will order the steinhart and see for myself. If you like the vintage style rolex, how about aluminum bezel instead of the ceramic one for Steinhart?
Agreed about the exhibition caseback. I have a Steinhart blue/black (Batman) "Classic ceramic" GMT, but had to order a "double green ceramic premium" (Hulk) Ocean One to get a see-through caseback. Both are 42mm, which works fine on my 7" wrist. On the upside, I now have two nice, and quite different retro-styled divers. The quality of Steinharts is first rate, and they are incredible value for money. No issues after a year of ownership with either watch.
I have both the Classic Ceramic GMT blue/black (Batman) bezel) and the double-green (Hulk) premium Ocean One. I prefer the 330-2 Sellita movement in the GMT versions over the 200 for its easier winding action and longer power reserve.
Not sure what you are talking about in terms of "enough components to call it Swiss made". It is a Swiss movement in a Swiss case and bracelet, so what exactly is at issue here? .
I thought there was some calculation of component costs or whatever, but now I don't remember and honestly swiss made isn't a make or break factor for me :)
Steinhart lists these at 13mm thick. I'm not sure if 0.5mm is noticeable, but I was wondering if it would wear thick with the midcase being that flat. I guess I could watch many reviews and still the most important would be to actually try one on the wrist. But it is a very tempting package.
Yes, the bezel on my Ocean One 39 with the green ceramic bezel is very tight too - I am hoping it loosen up with use. I wonder if the 42 mm versions are easier to turn, just because of the leverage with the larger diameter bezel. I use the bezel quite a lot on dive watches for timing all sorts of things, up to and including when my tea is steeped, but likely will have fewer occasions to rotate the bezel on a GMT watch, since this is most useful for tracking different time zones. I think I will pop for a 42 mm Steinhart GMT for sailing however- the combination of that complication (so I can track GMT offset) and the high level of waterproofness make this the perfect combination for me.
Been mulling over one of these for a very long time, only thing stopping me is I cant try one on so have to go in blind & unsure if I should get the bigger or smaller option. Cant get my head around a 42mm GMT homage, I've got a 40 mm GMT homage which is perfect. so losing a mm for 39 or gaining 2mm for the larger version is screwing my head up. I have a 7 & a bit inch wrist. Anyone have any input they could give me?
With your wrist size I think you will be safe with either size. It mostly comes down to preference, do you like a bigger or smaller watch? The lug to lug difference between the two is only 2mm (the 39mm one is 47mm lug to lug and the 42 is 49mm lug to lug). Personally, I would go with the 39, but that is because I think 39 is the perfect size for my wrist, and the case is very straight so the lug to lug of 49 is a bit too long for me. To be honest, you do sort of just get used to the size of your watch once you wear it long enough so don't overthink it too much :) Happy hunting and let me know what you end up with
Good review! I would never get a fake Rolex. But a homage is interesting, and this watch looks great! There are so many positive opinions about Steinhart, and the only true drawback seems to be that the lugs are unnecessary straight. I would like 42mm size and with 50mm(the limit for me) lug to lug it could work if the lugs were "normally" bowed. But not with the present lug design. The 47mm lug to lug of 39mm model will surely work good, though. So I find this watch very attractive. And one advantage with the smaller size is the lower weight.
Yes, a slight curve in the lugs would be perfect, especially for the 42mm model. I think the 39mm is the perfect size though. And at ~3% of the current asking price of the Rolex, this is a perfect option for me :)
Ive worn this watch for 2 years- Ive seen no fading on the bezel or markings. My only niggles are the bezel action is stiff and I wish the date magnifier was a touch stronger.
The accuracy will inevitably be slow on the wrist most likely. The timegrapher demo is nice to see but not a complete indication of the accuracy since the watch is only one stationary position. In a different position or on the wrist, it could be different. I personally like to regulate my watches at the +5 sec/day on the wrist, that's just how I like it. Nice to see decent amplitude and I'm assuming the watch is fully wound and the beat error is near zero. Nice review and appreciate the candidness. I just wish Steinhart would fix that flat lug to lug layout. Thumbs up and thank you!
Yeah, this one is puzzling me a bit because generally I find exactly what you said. The watches tend to run slower on wrist. This one has been keeping excellent time on wrist. I wonder if it is because it is accurate in more positions than I am used to. For example, Seiko movements tend to vary in rate a lot in different positions. I'll have to test this out in more positions. I know the SW330 elabore is adjusted to 4 positions. Oh, I totally agree about the lugs, just a gentle curve would make a big difference.
@@JustWatches1 Test the watch in at least six different positions and that's quite tedious but worth it if you're obsessed with accuracy as I am. I've evolved to appreciate the consistencies of several Swiss movements than the Japanese (Seiko and Miyota) in my experience. The Chinese are definitely stepping up their game as well but has a long way to go for marketing.
Great vid, keep it going! But I got a question nonetheless: Do you think Steinhart will release another Ocean One GMT with the „updated“ GMT Master II colors, somewhat darker as the shown ones? Best regards.
It is really hard to say. They make some crazy colors, I think they have a two tone root beer. I was actually hoping they would do a coke bezel in ceramic.
I actually prefer the colors of the aluminum Pepsi bezel on the Ocean One 39. It‘d be perfect if it had the old school numbers on the bezel insert though.
I am sorry no matter how much you pay for a homage it’s still a homage… save your money and go with the best bang for buck… pagani… it’s closer and honestly most people don’t care or known if it’s a Rolex lol
If the watch is an homage to the Rolex GMT ceramic, The jubilee bracelet MUST have polished center links (like the Rolex). Not to have them diminishes the watch considerably.
I had this and its 42mm cousin on my wrist a couple of weeks ago at the local boutique and it looks even better in real life than in pics or videos. No wonder both sizes are currently sold out and on backorder on Steinhart's website. The only reason why I haven't bought this one is that I'm more into retro homages and own the 39 Vintage GMT Pepsi already. If my 39mm Ocean One's bezel is an indication as to how those bezels usually break in, then you shouldn't have much of a problem after a few weeks. On mine the action got smoother over time. It's still a little stiffer than my 42mm Steinharts, but that's probably just due to the difference in size/geometry.
Oh awesome, I'm glad to hear that the bezel will break in. I almost, almost went with the 39 Vintage GMT Pepsi, it looks so fantastic. I got this one second hand basically brand new, and couldn't pass on what a great deal it was.
Nice review. I am pretty sure Swiss movements from the big companies are rated base, elabore, top, and COSC Certified. How is it cost saving to have a unidirectional bezel? Having a spring installed to make a unidirectional bezel ADDS cost.
Thanks, yes, I don't have much experience with ETA movements, so I am learning more about them. You are correct about the bezel, but I wouldn't want a friction bezel without a spring. I mean it was cost saving versus a bi-direction ball bearing bezel or some other solution.
It is weird that my way to understand what quality a watch has is to handle it in my hand(not on wrist first) like exactly you do it on 3 fingers, shake it to hear the sound, close my eyes and feel the edges and curvatures of the case, then put it on my wrist to see how comfortable it is☺️ so as my weird test this watch is really amazing, perfect fit and size and also great engineering example of how to make an endlink&bracelet connection. The problem is that the watch i tested wasn’t mine, it is one of my friends’😁 When i purchase this model somehow, it will be time to let my islander pepsi go.
Yes, it is EXACTLY how you describe it. You just sort of know it is high quality through direct experience, but I can't really put it into words. And it doesn't come across in video either, you just have to handle it, and you realize: Oh, this is very nice! The Islanders are really nice too!
