It's so nice to listen to a watch guy who knows his subject. Brilliant review, I completely concur with you. I own 5 Steinharts and about to pull the trigger on an Ocean 39 Metropole.
.. it's beautiful. Bezel has the right shade of green. Watch is of the right size too, which is 39mm. Beautiful finishing of the strap; liked the case back cover. Good loom, good bezel alignment. I don't mind the 1.5x cyclop. A really nice watch. Thank you.
Great review, John. Enjoyed it as always. I think this piece is one of Steinhart’s best efforts as a great all-rounder. That ceramic bezel is to die for! Thanks for sharing. Best Regards
@@watchreviews4k I've been wearing it for about a week. It's a fantastic watch, one of the best I've ever owned. I had a couple concerns. The first is that it just looks like I'm wearing a fake Rolex. But then I realized there are a tiny number of people on the planet who know and care about that, and they don't matter. The other concern is that I'm getting a watch that will not hold its value. I still think that's true, but for $485 it's not a huge deal and with a design this timeless and versatile, I'm not likely to want to get rid of it anytime soon anyway. In spite of those concerns, it is a superb quality and value, and I don't think I went wrong.
I own 2 Rolex, An omega and some other high price watches. Bought the steinhart 39 green ceramic and was completely surprised how good the watch is made and feels. I don’t want to wait 10 years on the list for a green submariner, this Steinhart is a perfect alternative 👍 The only thing I think it would upgrade the watch is a glossy black dial..
Thank you for watching Marcus. Congratulations. Excellent choice. Wear yours in good health. Agreed, a black glossy enamel dial would enhance the piece. Regards, #WR4K
Excellent review, and it inspires me to make my purchase of the ocean one Steinhart blue. I have a Ocean 2 premium white, which is a Steinhart original. After seeing your review I’ve settled on the ocean one as mentioned above. Thanks for your insightfulness, and I also subscribed to your channel. Look forward to following you in the future. Be well.

@@DoctorF1984 I am very happy with my Ocean 39 green ceramic - I prefer the ceramic over the aluminum for both durability and colour - I think they nailed the colour with this one. I was so delighted with this watch that I ordered one of the new Classic GMT Ceramics in 42 mm, and it arrived just yesterday. This one is fully up to expectations too, in materials, workmanship, appearance and function. I can wear the 42 mm with my 7 1/4 inch wrist, but like both sizes for daily wear. The bevel on the 39 mm was stiff when delivered, as others have noted, but is loosening up with use. The crown action and winding are also a bit stiff compared with the 42 mm. Overall I prefer he action and feel of the 42 mm, but can recommend either watch to potential buyers.
New to your channel and really enjoyed your comprehensive review of this watch. I have the OVM 39 and totally agree that those proportions are the absolute sweet spot for a wristwatch. Have looked at this one a few times and I think your review may have tipped the balance. Excellent presentation and keep up the good work.
Same here - 39mm case variant is most elegant, and most balanced proportionally in my opinion, while 42/44 mm version seem somehow bit different, not only bigger. The 39mm also, if not mistaken, does not suffer with straight long lugs as bigger cases. Wears really flat - but must admit have I flat wrist too. Additionally the Oceans supplied with upgraded type of ceramic engraved bezel insert deliver kind of a class step up, having absolutely awesome look! Plus minus 2-3 sec/day here. Perplexed !!!!
I own both and there is a lack of "Panache"with the San Martin, but as the reviewer said, the joke is on Rolex because they actually did an homage of Steihart with the green bezel. That is absolutely fantastic for those of us who don't spend stupid money on Rolexes. STUPID MONEY.
Fine vid on really fine watches. I have the “Pepsi” Ocean 39 Vintage GMT with an ETA 2893-2 movement. It is probably their most expensive GMT but it is superb in quality, design, and function. I have seen GMTs rocking the exact same ETA and charging two.....two &1/2 the Money$$$$ !
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. Congratulations. Excellent piece, and excellent movement. Agreed, the ETA 2893-2 is often used in much more expensive pieces; so it is outstanding value in the 39 GMT. Wear yours in good health. Regards.
Lovely review. Excellent. I will order one from Manuela....uh....Günther...., as it's (in my humble opinion) the best SUB homage. Keep up the good work!
Excellent review. For my next purchase (200m diver's) I've narrowed it down to three watches: I'm in two minds about this Steinhart 39mm, a Seiko 777 and the new Citizen Diver "Fugu." Seiko is a bit big at 44 mm, though. All supposedly sub-500 euros. I ruled out the new Tissot Seastar because I think its overly bulky hands are ugly and spoil the face. Also ruled out the classy new(ish) Raymond Weil Freelancer on grounds of cost (well over a grand). Got to say that bracelet and clasp on the Steinhart look amazing quality.
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. Interesting choices. I think the Ocean One 39 is the best option. Steinhart have a 14 day return policy; so as long as you leave the plastic on when trying it, you can return it for full refund if not satisfied. This is something the other brands don't offer. Regards.
Very nice review. I own a gold and stainless Rolex sub and a couple of Pagani Design subs, plus an Apple watch. I just ordered the Ocean 39 in black ceramic and will be fitting the Steinhart jubilee bracelet to it. The design looks very pleasing and I am looking forward to using it the majority of my time. Thanks for the review.
Thank you for watching James. Glad you enjoyed it. Congratulations. Excellent choice. The Jubilee bracelet is excellent quality. I fitted one to my 39 previously as it really enhances the piece. Wear yours in good health. Regards, #WR4K
Exactly what I’m doing, my Ocean 1 double green ceramic premium in 42mm is arriving this week, I should’ve already ordered the jubilee bracelet but I will soon
I am eagerly waiting for mine to arrive and is due to your outstanding reviews that this will now be my third Steinhart watch. They are quite simply unbeatable. Thank you for your fine work. Why did you not go into the crown action and threading on this watch as you normally do? Would you comment on the crown action?
Congratulations Jonas. Excellent choice. Wear yours in good health. Apologies, I forgot to discuss the crown action. It is silky smooth, excellent interface between the crown thread and crown tube thread. Regards, #WR4K
Thank you for watching Kevin. Glad you enjoyed it. Congratulations, the 39 black is an excellent piece. I have owned both the 39 and 42 versions; and used to think the 42 fitted my 8" wrist better. However since trying the 39, I have now changed my mind; as the lugs aren't as straight and flat; so less gap between the case and wrist. My advice is if you have a 6-7" wrist the 39 Cermit will fit you better. The 42 really is only a good fit for 7-8" wrists. It is often the reason why they are sold soon after purchase due to the gap and straight lugs. Overall I think the 39 Cermit looks better than the 42. Regards.
Thank you for watching David. Glad you enjoyed it. Excellent choices. Difficult decision; as both are excellent. I previously owned the 42 Vintage Red and really liked it. The 39 is a better fit. However Steinhart have stopped selling bezel inserts on their website; now one has to return the watch to their HQ in Augsburg, Germany for replacement. This is something to consider, as the aluminium bezel inserts are easy to scratch. I previously owned a Kermit and scratched and dented the insert soon after buying it. Fortunately back then they used to sell them for only 15 Euro. Now they charge more to change it themselves. The ceramic bezels are more scratch resistant, so consider your lifestyle when choosing between them. Regards.
@@S1lent_Warrior You are welcome. Having owned the 42 Kermit, and this 39 Kermit; the 39 is a better fit. Also the ceramic is more practical due to being more scratch resistant. Wear yours in good health. Regards.
Hey great review once again. I have the 42mm hulk and its like i have the kermit and the hulk in one. The way the hulk plays with the light, sometimes its a black dial like the kermit and then a sunburst green. Wish you would do a review of the hulk soon, and its exhibition caseback is amazing. Thanks again and keep up the great vids.
Thank you for watching William. Glad you enjoyed it it. Agreed, the Hulk is an excellent piece. I would like to review it; but unfortunately Steinhart do not loan pieces to RU-vidrs; so it would mean buying one to make the review (as I did with this piece). Some brands loan me pieces for review which is more viable. Wear yours in good health. Regards.
Hi John , I'm all ordered now and can't wait to receive this watch from Steinhart. All thanks to your review and the other video with just the music. I looks a fantastic watch and I'm hoping the expectation exceeds the reality once it's here. I was happy with the quality of the vintage reds but agree with you the size dimensions on them are a little large and I'm about a 7" wrist. What I'm gleaning from your other Rolex sub review is that you had more negatives regarding that and I found this review you almost could not complain apart from the Cyclops date magnifier. Thanks 👍 for all.the help and replies John , I'll let you know when mine arrives .
Glad you got it ordered after your problems. Congratulations, excellent choice. I have owned several 42mm Ocean One's and to be honest with you I made the mistake of thinking they would fit my 8" wrist better. But I now realise the 39mm version fits a 7-8" wrist better as the lugs aren't as long, straight, and flat. It wears more like a 40mm due to the pointed crown guards, rather than the blunt square crown guards on a Submariner. As you know I own a Submariner Date; and the truth is the feel good factor from a 39 Cermit is just as good. I actually prefer the case shape of the 39 with the more tapered lugs and pointed crown guards. As I said in my review, really the only negative is the 1.5x cyclops; but that is minor and can be overlooked as they got everything else just right with this piece. This was my favourite Ocean One I have ever owned; I think its one of the best Steinhart have ever made. You will find this yourself; a 39 fits a 7" wrist much better than the 42 version does. Like yourself I also owned a Vintage Red; another personal favourite of mine; its a shame they keep making the 39 version of it for Gnomon rather than selling it on the Steinhart website; as that is a great watch in 39. One thing you will prefer is the 39 case has less gap under the lugs to the wrist; it is a more snug fit than the 42. Let me know what you think of yours when you get it? Wear it in good health. Regards.
@@watchreviews4k thanks John , I agree with you as many owners have said those lugs used to jut out off the wrist . I maybe tried to convince myself with the vintage red it didn't but it must have- it was a bit of a dinner plate when I look at pictures of it on my wrist. Pity as you say Steinhart missed a trick doing a 39 V.Red. I quite still like the painted indices on my skx but will be nice to see the applied indices on this green ceramic. Honestly your review swayed me on this so thanks. There is another Italian guy doing a review in the watch which wasn't too bad but your praise and positivity for the company and this watch just edged me to get it. The best line ever "champagne watch for lemonade money " 👍👌. Speak to you when it arrives , best regards
Is the black dial on this green ceramic Ocean One 39 darker than on the aluminum version? Just wondering if they just replaced the green aluminum bezel insert with the green ceramic insert or if there are other changes in this ceramic version.
@@watchreviews4k Absolutely. On the fence on whether to add this to my humble collection; Either this or a Marathon Navigator or something from Islander Watches; like that Datejust homage? Dunno; but yeah this Steinhart ticks all boxes !!
@@MrLoughneagh Thank you for watching. The term bustdown refers to an original luxury watch being taken apart (bust down), then drilled and filled with diamonds or other gemstones. Regards, #WR4K
Great review except, please turn the bezel around to demonstrate the bezel action. I’ve owned an ocean one and one of my dislike is the bezel being very difficult to turn. This would have been a perfect review if we could see how the bezel action have improved from previously. Thanks
Great Review! A very beautiful Watch! I'm a bit ambivalent about Homage watches, I understand the pros and cons 100% and I also have Hommage watches in mind. I have to say that my Ocean 39 GMT Black Ceramic does not have this feeling, unlike this watch. It is probably simply because steel and black are so ubiquitous and you don't associate them directly with Rolex like a Kermit, Hulk or Pepsi, I don't know. At least I think so. But everyone should wear what he feels comfortable with!
Thank you for watching. Homage watch brands like Steinhart often draw criticism for copying Rolex. However I don't see it as any different from Jack Heuer copying the Submariner Date with the Heuer Professional Diver (844 Monnin case) during the Quartz Crisis of the 1970's. It didn't just save the Heuer brand from going bust, it became a great success for the brand as a less expensive alternative to the Submariner Date. So really Günter Steinhart is just doing the same in the 2000's as Jack Heuer did in the 1970's; producing a less expensive alternative to the Submariner Date. I only own one watch; a 116610LN Submariner Date, but I have owned several Ocean One's previously; and they give a similar feel good factor. The main advantage being one doesn't have any of the Rolex AD waiting list nonsense to go through. One can simply buy direct online and the watch is delivered by Fedex 5 days later. I think Rolex SA Geneva should consider adopting the same business model; and retail the watches direct online shipping via Fedex globally. They have already moved in the direction by leaving Baselworld and launching their novelties online. An Ocean One is a great first Swiss automatic for a collector; or simply a less expensive alternative to Tudor, Omega, and Rolex. The other positive of an Ocean One is the value retention; compared to other brands such as Omega which depreciate heavily from retail. So I consider Steinhart to be the modern-day mid-tier Heuer brand replacement; a good piece for a collector to experience whilst saving up for a Black Bay, Seamaster, or Submariner Date. Wear yours in good health. Regards.
@@watchreviews4k Thanks for the Jack Heuer thing, very interesting! I see it the same way you do, Steinhart offers watches with a good price-performance ratio - not everybody can and wants to afford a Rolex and if you like the design of a Rolex, Steinhart is a good alternative. I also have to say that I don't like many Diver watches, Rolex did everything right with the design of the Submariner and Steinhart does everything right 😄👍 Personally, I'm saving up for a Rolex Submariner Date (Black) and I'm going to treat myself to one. I really like the Kermit, Hulk and Pepsi watches and I could imagine buying them from Steinhart after I bought the Rolex. These discussions about Homage watches are unnecessary, everyone should wear what he wants. I like my Ocean GMT and enjoy 👍 a good companion to the dream watch Rolex.
Great review, its amazing to see so much value at this price point considering the price of other luxury watches. I'd rather buy one Steinhart and save the 7k from a Rolex.
Beautiful watch and comprehensive review. You went over many details that other channels overlooked like the change in manufacturers and the thicker clasp. I’m thinking of getting this watch and have a few questions. How would you describe the fold over clasp? (The small part where you first use your finger nail to grab that has the logo) Does it feel loose? Also, how is the fitment on the end links? Are they tight or are there gaps when putting pressure on it? How does the crown action feel? Does it feel smooth or gritty? Thanks!
Thank you for watching Das. Glad you enjoyed it. The fliplock feels tight. Good positive click when it snaps shut with no play. The end links are an excellent fit in the case, tight fit, no play, no gaps. The crown thread feels smooth when screwing down, and unscrewing. There is a characteristic firm spring loaded pressure against it when screwing it down, on both the SW200-1 and ETA 2824-2. One can feel the resistance gradually building up when manually winding the mainspring. The crown threading isn't as silky smooth as my Rolex Submariner Date, I would describe it as similar to the feel of a Seiko screw down crown, such as on the SKX007, or SRP777 Turtle; which are both satisfactory in terms of smoothness. Overall it is both excellent quality/value for the respective price point The only real negative as discussed in my review; is the 1.5x magnification of the cyclops magnifier. Regards.
Had my ocean 39 for a few years. Really nice piece and makes me no longer lust after a Sub, especially with the long waitlists and inflated prices in the grey market. However, man does my watch run slow. -30 secs a day! Didn’t start that way initially, but after a few years really doesn’t keep good time. Was not expecting I’d have to take it in for service so soon.
Another great review, thanks! I'm curious if this watch could be purchased with one or more half links on the bracelet, as in the 39mm Gnomon version, or if Steinhart sells the half links separately? I'm considering this one as my next purchase, but I'm very finicky about getting the fit just right. Thanks again for your hard work.
@@sensible202 yup, the bracelet comes extra long, with half links on both sides. I had to take two links from each side to fit my 7 1/4 inch wrist. Plus there are four holes for micro adjustment on the clasp, an another on the strap attachment, so there is all the adjustability you need.
Couldn't agree more re size. Had the OVM and this Ceramic Green both in 42mm. Sold them both and replaced them with their 39mm versions. I also picked up two more 39mm O1s along the way (Marine Blue and Vintage GMT Pepsi) and all of them are high quality products. However: The bezel-action on all four of them was too stiff out of the box. Slightly too stiff on the GMT and the Green, and significantly too stiff on the other two. And judging from other YTs' experiences, this seems to be the norm with a lot of 39mm O1s (my two 42mm O1s were smooth as silk right out of the box). Simply rotating the bezels 2 to 4 times once a day has resolved that "problem" on all of them over time, but I think it's worth mentioning to potential buyers who aren't familiar with these watches. Another "drawback" (in quotation marks since it doesn't bother me, but might bother others) is the fact that, IMO, the hands on the 39mm O1s are a little to large for their dials. It's very noticeable on the OVM, where the seconds-hand nearly runs into the steel rehaut - when on the 42 (and on the genuine MilSub) it barely touches the minute markings. Again: Doesn't bother me and will probably never be noticed by 99.9% of people unless they have a 42 and 39 in front of them at the same time.
Thank you for watching. I previously owned 42 versions as I thought they would fit my 8" wrist better. I later realised the 39 case is a better fit. With regards to the hands being too large; I believe it is deliberate by Steinhart as the Mercedes hands are still under patent by Rolex SA Geneva; so making them larger avoids any legal claims for infringement. Regards.
@@watchreviews4k OVM has sword-hands, Marine Blue has snowflakes. IMO it's probably a cost issue. I can't be 100% certain, but I'd say they generally use the same size of hands on both the 42 and 39. The Mercedes-hands are a bit on the larger side, too for the 39's dial-size, but it's barely noticeable since the seconds-hand on the Mercedes-set is a lot thinner than that arrowhead-one on the OVM. Same with the Merc-minute hand which is a lot less stubby and much "pointier" than its counterparts in both the snowflake- and the sword-set. Oh well ...very minor complaint, anyway.. :D
@@1SaG I have previously owned several 39's and 42''s; including the Vintage Military. The Mercedes hands on the 39 and 42 are different sizes. In both cases they are larger than Rolex Submariner hands. This is deliberate by Steinhart to avoid breaching the Intellectual Property Rights of Rolex SA Geneva. With regards to the production cost of the 5517 Milsub style sword hands, and Tudor Snowflake hands, they use similar amounts of Superluminova; therefore the production cost is similar. I prefer the sword hands and would like to see Steinhart use them on all Ocean One models. Regards.
will you be reviewing any other pieces from this company? The 39mm batman they make looks epic on their website. Would love to see you put it through its paces.
Steinhart don't send pieces to RU-vid watch reviewers. I am not going to buy their watches as it means selling them at a loss on eBay after. See my Ocean 39 Marine Black review below, it may interest you. Regards, #WR4K ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uExRZDuAjsc.html
Best review on this model. Ive asked you which one u will prefer this or with aluminium but i decided man. I like more darker grey/black dial and ceramic looks much more premium. Ill buy it soon :)
Difficult decision as both the Kermit and Cermit 39 versions are excellent. Personally I prefer the ceramic bezel, and darker black dial. Steinhart did a really good job on the engraved numerals with white paint. I prefer the bezel to the Cerachrom one on my Rolex Submariner Date. The numerals are infilled with platinum which gives them a matte silver look. The white paint used on the Ocean One ceramic bezel looks better. I also prefer the lumed triangle to the lumed bezel pip Rolex use. Overall it is an excellent quality/value watch for 455 Euro including Fedex shipping. The only negative is the 1.5x magnification of the cyclops rather than 2.5x Rolex use. But that is a minor negative one can live with. Wear yours in good health. Regards.
@@Visitor555 Congratulations. Excellent choice. The black 39 ceramic is one of the bets watches Steinhart have ever made. Excellent quality/value for the respective price point. The truth is I prefer the 39's bezel to the one on my Submariner Date. The white paint, and lumed triangle look better. I also prefer the heavier bezel action with louder clicks. Wear yours in good health. Regards.
@@watchreviews4k Thank you, ive heard you said that in your video also on other comment reply and that give me courage to buy the Steinhart because i not have money for Submariner and that is the best design for diver watch for me and many others, so i feel proud now with my Steinhart, thank you for your honesty and not snobbery :) i apreciate honest people who help with real advices and not watching only the brand name, because many people dont care for comparing watches for what we get for price/quallity and when someone have money to buy luxury watch they think this is the best and nothing else can compare to it. Sure its better but if we compare them for price/quallity who wins? As i can see for you also like myself Steinhart wins in that comparison. Cheers man!
@@Visitor555 I agree with you. There is a lot of snobbery in watch collecting. Rolex fanboys will look down on collectors with anything less; such as a Steinhart Ocean One 39, or Pagani Design PD-1661. As you can see from my reviews, and State Of The Collection video; I am not like that. The Ocean One 39 is the best watch for under 500 Euro. The PD-1661 is the best watch for under 100 Euro. I appreciate many collectors cannot afford to pay 11K Euro for a Submariner Date on the grey market. So the Ocean One 39, and PD-1661; are good alternatives for a collector that can afford 500 Euro or 100 Euro pieces. The most important thing is the feel good factor of wearing the piece. The truth is, the Ocean One 39 gives the same feel good factor as a Submariner Date; but without the expense; or waiting list nonsense at a Rolex AD. The Submariner Date is a good watch; but so is the Ocean One 39. That is the truth. Of course the Rolex fanboy will never admit that; as it hurts his ego to do so. You see my 3 piece collection? I also have a 68 Euro Vostok Amphibia, and 62 Euro Pagani Design PD-1661. I enjoy the feel good factor of these low-tier pieces as much as my Submariner Date. I don't look down on any collector for owning these pieces, I admire their confidence. They are wearing the watches because they like them, not to impress other collectors they can afford a heavy hitter. Congratulations on buying a great watch. Wear it in good health. Regards.
I'm thinking about this watch but not the Germit.. I can't find much mention even on their website about what kind of movement they use.. and the accuracy..
See link below John. Under the "Product Description" tab the movement is detailed. I also detail the movement, and accuracy in this review. The ETA 2824-2 and SW200-1 élaboré grade movements are both used in the Ocean One 39. Regards, #WR4K www.steinhartwatches.de/en/diver-watch/diver-watch-39mm/ocean-39-black-ceramic.html
I rather buy the seagull ocean star, bought one 1month ago for $150, with a ST2330 chip which is similar to eta2824. So far it’s amazing! And the price is once in a million years so don’t expect to get it all time.
Great review nice photography. I wonder why Steinhart doesn’t do some Tudor homages like the BB 58 etc. They already have a 39mm case . All they would need to do is a new dial and hands. I know that Gnomon watches already do a Ocean Blue but it’s the wrong colour .
Thank you for watching ivan. Glad you enjoyed it. I would like Steinhart to make a Black Bay 59 homage too. I dislike the Gnomon piece as it has "Gnomon" on the dial. Also I dislike the direction Steinhart are going in using Tudor Snowflake hands on homages to the GMT Master. Their two-tone PVD plated watches look dreadful. There is demand in the market for a 39mm Ocean One Black Bay 58. Why don't they make one? Günter Steinhart probably isn't interested in making one. Regards.
@@ivankerr3570 Yes, I am aware. It is a shame Steinhart don't make a 39 blue. I emailed Günter Steinhart back in 2019 asking him to make a Tudor Snowflake Submariner homage with the 39's case. He wasn't interested back then; but later made the Gnomon version. It is a shame he didn't just make a blue version available on their own website rather than Gnomons. I don't like the Explorer dial 39 as they put 100 metres on the dial; and that doesn't make sense as we all know the 39 is a 300 metre water resistant watch. They should have used their 39 Vintage GMT case for a blue Black Bay 58 homage; that would have looked better than the Gnomon version using the 39's case. Regards.

Thanks for a valuable review! Steinhart is a new brand for me and very interesting. One thing I read some users considered as a negative thing is the flat lugs, and that's also noticeable in your video. This makes the watch to be too flat on the wrist, according to some opinions. Is it anything you have thought about? Some people have sold their watches because of that and I am not sure how I will perceive it.
Thank you for watching Patric. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, the Ocean One does have flat lugs, and a gap between the case and wrist. It is indeed a common reason why collectors sell their watch soon after buying it. The gap is larger in the 42 than the 39 version. It really depends on your wrist size. If you have a 6-7" wrist you will notice the gap under the case more. if you have a 7-8" wrist it is less noticeable due to the wider, flat area the case sits on. So my advise is this, if you have a 7-8" wrist the 39 will be a good fit. If you have a 6-7" wrist you will need to try it, and see if you like the fit or not. Bear in mind Steinhart have a 14 day return policy; so if you don't remove the plastic you can try it and return it if unhappy with it. Regards.
@@watchreviews4k Thanks for reply! I measure my wrist to 6,7". I have a Tissot Gentleman and it has around 1mm longer lug to lug distance. It works great while it's probably on the upper level of size for my wrist. The lugs are more bent down than Steinhart, though. I will consider how I will do. By the way: great channel, just subscribed!
I've come back to this review several times as I still can't make up my mind between the stunning piece in question and Steinhart's Vintage Red with black dial and red text but I suppose both have similar movements. Could you clear up one doubt I have though; Are Steinhart's 39mm sized watches available directly from Germany ? Because I've heard they have to be ordered from Gnomon in Singapore, therefore entailing customs duties payable on entry into Europe. All the best, cheers.
You can get the Vintage Red in 39mm - but only from Gnomon in Singapore. Alternatively, you could call or email the Steinhart boutique in Aachen, Germany. A quick Google search will lead you to their website. They usually have the 39mm Gnomon exclusive versions in stock. I bought all my Steinharts there, including the Gnomon only 39mm OVM and 39mm Marine Blue.
Nice review thank you. Great looking watch. I just wish they did something different to stand out a bit more, and do something unique. Now everybody will think that you are wearing a “fake” Still.. gonna think about buying this.
Steinhart released this Kermit before Rolex did ironically. In reality very few people notice watches. The few that do, are able to discern if a watch is a Rolex or Steinhart. If one was wearing a Rolex they might think it is a fake; but not if wearing a Steinhart as it doesn't say Rolex on the dial. Regards, #WR4K

I also have a orient kamasu red dial which I wear more frequent ( because I dont want to damage the omega) and This kermit dial would be a great addition. On the video the steinhart also looks way better finished than the orient.
People are more likely to think you are wearing a fake if you are actually wearing a branded Rolex, because there are so many knockoffs circulating. This is a high quality Swiss watch made by a German company, and people who would think it is a fake just don't know what they are talking about. Besides people who are not watch snobs (which includes most people on the planet) will simply react to how it looks, and it looks terrific.
Can you tell if there is a sellita or ETA movement in the watch without opening the watch? Received mine 1 week ago and very content with it. Excellent review by the way👍🏻
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. Congratulations, excellent choice. No, the SW200-1 and ETA 2824-2 both feel the same when handwinding. Also there isn't a difference in the sound of the rotor when automatically winding. So the only way to tell which one your watch has is to remove the caseback. One can either look for the ETA engraving on the movement, or 25/26 jewels (SW200-1 is 26, ETA 2824-2 is 25). Other than the extra jewel added, the SW200-1 is a clone of the ETA 2824-2. Both are élaboré grade, regulated in 3 positions. Steinhart use both movements equally in the Ocean One. They started using SW200-1 as an alternative to ETA 2824-2 when the supply of ETA movements was restricted to non Swatch Group brands (ETA is Swatch Group owned). Also the price per piece for SW200-1 is less expensive than ETA 2824-2; so there is more profit margin for Steinhart in using Sellita rather than ETA. I have had both in my Ocean One's and had no problems with either. Similar accuracy with both; typically within +/- 5 seconds per day. Wear yours in good health. Regards.
I held both the 39 Kermit and OVM last week, they're both really solid but ended up with OVM due to milsub style hands and dial. Also that cyclops is actually quite a turn off for me, not sure why they haven't' fixed the magnification on that. Other than that the ceramic Kermit is really gorgeous especially under the sun.
Thank you for watching. Excellent choice. Congratulations. I owned the Vintage Military myself and also love the Milsub sword hands. It is a shame Steinhart only sold the 39 version via Gnomon, rather than their own website; as it would have been a popular option to the 42. I think the 39 case looks closer to the Rolex 5517 Milsub proportions. Agreed on the cyclops magnifier. The price difference between 1.5x and 2.5x magnification cyclops is negligible; so no reason for Steinhart not to upgrade. I modded my 42 Ocean One's with Crystal Times double domed sapphire crystals which really enhanced them. It is a shame they don't make crystals for the 39 version. Wear yours in good health. Regards.
@@watchreviews4k yeah the price from Gnomon has also increased to $520 right now. I actually bought it from a local fellow watch enthusiast. He bought both 39 Kermit and OVM a while ago and decided to release both in like new condition. I would have gone for the Kermit if not for the cyclops but OVM 39 has that beautiful domed sapphire plus that milsub dial and hands. I also don't mind aluminium insert for that vintage aesthetic.
@@HarryUnchained I like the aluminium bezel insert. It suits the case shape better than ceramic; as it's more like the Rolex 16610 case than the 116610LN Supercase. The peach tone of the lume on the Vintage Military is lovely; just like on a 1970's 5517 Milsub when the tritium lime has patina. Agreed on the Kermit, I would prefer it without the cyclops magnifier. The problem with the Ocean One is the bond used is very strong, so its hard to remove the cyclops using a butane blowtorch. One has to remove the crystal from the case first, then use so much heat often the crystal cracks before the bond melts and releases the crystal. With a Pagani Design in comparison it only needs 10-20 seconds heating; and then it pops off easily. With my 42's I just pressed out the crystals and fitted Crystaltimes ones. They also make a nice top hat style crystal for the 42 called the CT116. See link below. I think it really suits the Vintage Military. Regards. usa.crystaltimes.net/shop/products/ct116/
@@HarryUnchained Excellent choice. Congratulations. It would be worth you waiting until the 28th March; as AliExpress have their next sale then. The PD-1661's will be under 70 USD with the discount coupons then. Wear yours in good health. Regards.
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately Steinhart do not loan pieces to watch reviewers. I had to buy this Cermit to make the review, then sell it at a loss on eBay. So buying a Hulk to make a review just isn't viable. Unlike other watch channels I do not ask my subscribers for Patreon, or Paypal donations. Some brands loan, or gift me pieces for review; but the majority have been purchased from my own funds. Regards.
Im debating wheter or not to choose this one instead of the “double green premium” model. The display caseback of the “premium” model doesn’t really justify the €150 pricegap, tho I like the double green color..
The double green has a more expensive movement. Not sure how much that adds to their cost in addition to the sapphire case back. I’m leaning towards the double green myself. I love how the bezel and the dial switch colours depending on the lighting. In some lighting they both look green, in some the bezel looks black and in other lighting the dial looks black. It adds another dimension to the watch. I could do without the see-through case back, because the movement is pretty plain looking to me. But maybe, I’ll change my mind once Zi have the watch in my hands.
Just found your channel and I'm blown away. I like the in depth style you are doing, and also that you aren't afraid to say the negative things about a watch. Also, the image quality and the lightning are spot on! You should concider reviewing/comparing the San Martin Water Ghost to the Steinhart. At around 150€ in a Sale, the San Martin offers comparable quality in regards to the fit and finishing.
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. I asked San Martin to send me a Ghost Diver and they refused. Some brands loan watches, some gift watches, some pay me to review their watches. Other brands such as Steinhart don't send watches to RU-vidrs for review, so I had to spend 455 Euro to buy this Kermit for review for example. I don't want to spend 150 Euro on a Ghost Diver and sell it at a loss (as it isn't a watch I want myself). However, if you would like me to buy one for review then please feel free to make a donation to my channel via Paypal. Regards.
@@watchreviews4k That seem legit, I totally understand that. I onwed 5 Water Ghost so far and sold every single on with profit. I got 170-190€ for each of them.
@@kws4e The problem I have with Chinese Aliexpress brands like San Martin is they email me asking me to review their watches. I reply and agree to review their watch, and say send me one. Then they come back and say we can't send you one, but you can but one at X% discount. So the brand expects one to make a review to help sell their watch; free marketing; and one has to pay them for the watch too. Yes, the V3 Water Ghost is a great watch I would like to review; but not at my own expense; and San Martin's benefit. Other brands are more reasonable, as they will either loan, or gift a watch for review. In the case of the larger brands they will also pay for a review. I appreciate its possible to buy V3's in Aliexpress sales using discount coupons, then resell them at profit on eBay. Several UK sellers are doing that. However it isn't something that interests me. I prefer to do giveaways to my subscribers with the gifted watches I receive from brands; rather than selling them on eBay. Regards.
I don’t care about the cyclops being 1.5 times. Seems a very personal complaint considering there are many who don’t want a cyclops at all and others who prefer to go even further with just leaving the date out altogether. The main thing is that this watch is gorgeous and it has a very similar look to the Rolex. The proportions of the bezel to the case and the hour marking loom and the hands are very harmonious, just like the Rolex. Steinhart have really got the bezel nailed. I think it is more attractive than the Rolex. I think, if I had a wish, it would for the lugs to have a bit more downward curve to help the watch to sit on smaller wrists securely. Yes, the clasp could be better if is had a ratcheting fine adjustment, but that seems to be a common place for improvements for all watches at this price. The lugs could also be drilled for easier removal of the strap. Those improvements wouldn’t change the cost very much at all, but I think they would be very much appreciated by the market. Steinhart has got so much nailed already, that with just a few small changes it would be very hard to suggest any more improvements. I love the green they’ve used for the bezel. My mind is almost made up. I’m definitely getting one. My only decision is do I go Kermit or will it be Hulk?
On the bright side, the 1.5 X cyclops does not stand so proud of the case as compared to a 2.5, so I would expect it is less likely to catch on anything and get damaged.
Wonderful, but too small for your wrist, isn't it? I have the 42(.4) mm Ocean One Vintage Red, and I got the Impression, that the Dial is nearly the same diameter. Is it true, that they only uses wider Bezels?
Thank you for watching Achim. I have owned several 42 versions and used to think the suited my 8" wrist. But recently my tastes have changed and I prefer 39 and 40mm cases. I think the 39 case fits better than the 42 as less gap under the lugs. Regards.
Great review, I quite fancy the double green from them. Also their Vintage dual time Premium really appeals. I’ve love to see a detailed review of that if they’ll send you one ?
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. Steinhart do not loan watches to RU-vidrs. I had to buy this one for review. The Double Green is an excellent choice. Regards.
@@watchreviews4k It ended up not buying the watch cause soon i get a Roli. But if i had to chose a hommage or maybe as a toolwatch, steinhart is greatest!
@@unclesam_music Congratulations Sam. Excellent choice. Wear yours in good health. Check out my Rolex Kermit review. It may interest you. Regards, #WR4K
Yes, I removed the caseback to check. That is the only way one can tell, as the ETA 2824-2 and SW200-1 both feel the same when hand winding and setting the time. Steinhart use both movements equally in the 39. Both are élaboré grade, and have the same build quality, accuracy, reliability; so it really doesn't matter which one gets. The only difference is the SW200-1 has 26 jewels rather than 25 jewels; but the extra jewel added has no positive benefit to performance. Regards.
I've been considering this watch and your review has sold it to me. Can I ask do you think a 48mm lug to lug such as this one would look foolish on my 6.25 inch wrist?
Thank you for watching Anthony. Glad you enjoyed it. 48mm lug to lug is a perfect fit for a 6-7" wrist. At 6.25" it will fit you very well; with good comfort wearing for long periods of time as a daily wear piece. Regards.

Excellent review, very comprehensive. I am considering both a Steinhart Ocean One 39 Green and a Tudor Black Bay 58. Can you give me some professional insight on how the two compare? Many thanks in advance and subscribed!
Thank you for watching Daniel. Glad you enjoyed it. Excellent choices. Check out my Black Bay 58 review, it may interest you. The 39 is a better fit for a 7" wrist. The 58 wears too small for a 7" wrist; the Black Bay 41 is a better fit. Although this is a 39, it wears more like a 40 due to the pointed crown guards; like a 16610 Submariner Date case; therefore is a better fit for a 7" wrist. Regards, #WR4K
@@watchreviews4k Many thanks for the advice, it is much appreciated. I am going to get a Green Ocean One 39. Also, I tried on a Black Bay 41 and did not like the way it felt on my wrist - too tall and top heavy. There has been so much positive hype on the BB58 that I was almost certain I would love it. However, when I tried it on, it was a bit underwhelming. The AD only had it on a fabric strap and it felt and looked a bit feminine on that strap. I will attempt to try it on both the bracelet and leather strap before giving up on it as I do think it is quite a lovely watch.
@@dannyg6592 I think the BB58 would look great on a leather strap. If you look at the Bark & Jack review of the blue version you'll get an idea of what it looks like on the leather. One thing the Ocean One 39 has though is a date - sorely missing from the BB58. If one day they add a date and cyclops then I'll buy one. As it is, I sold mine.
The Ocean One 42 and SN019-G are equal quality overall Peter. I have previously owned the 42, and disliked the straight flat lugs as there is a gap under the case. It sits on the wrist rather than curving around it; even on my large 8" wrist. The SN019-G gives a better fit, even on 6-7" wrists due to the case curving around the wrist more, rather than being straight and flat on the underside. The Ocean One 39 gives a better fit, with less gap than the 42. Regards, #WR4K
I recommend the SN019-G for a 7.5" wrist size, it gives an excellent fit. See link below, and use the "WR4K" 10 USD discount code. FYI Rolex only have the nos. at 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50. Also somehow the bezel doesn't look quite right without a lume pip. Having said that I think that Steinhart are as well made as Rolex, probably because they don't nave to spend one billion in advertising every year!!!!
Thank you for watching. Yes, I am aware of the Rolex Submariner Date numeral layout. See the review of mine below. Steinhart aren't made as as well as Rolex; however they are excellent build quality for the respective price point. Thank you for watching Brian. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I think it looks better with the cyclops removed. The 1.5x magnification doesn't really make the date window easier to read. It is easy to read without the cyclops anyway. I think the flat sapphire crystal is a cleaner look. Also it makes the Ocean One look less like a homage to the Rolex Cermit; and gives it its own identity as not just being a direct copy. Its a shame Steinhart don't offer the option on all Ocean One's; to buy them with/without cyclops. Many collectors would prefer it without. Regards.
@@johndickinson8848 Thank you for watching. It is difficult to remove the cyclops magnifier with a butane blowtorch; as the adhesive they use is very strong. One has to use so much heat to melt the adhesive the sapphire crystal cracks. A better option for the 42mm version is to replace it with a double domed sapphire crystal from Crystaltimes. Unfortunately they don't make one for the 39mm version (although I have asked them to). Regards.
If my grail watch is the Rolex hulk would I be satisfied with this or always have it in the back of my mind for the Hulk? I already have a Rolex sub date, standard black bezel though. Legit question.
I’m just a random guy on the internet, so my opinion doesn’t mean much. If I had a Rolex already I would probably just wear it everyday until I die. The price alone is unreal and for the amount of money it cost, should be put to use lol. After a lot of thinking about the price of some of these watches. It’s insane. Like, part of me would be kinda embarrassed walking around with a 10k-20k watch. I mean, it’s not like it’s THAT much better than something like a Steinhart. I could understand 2-3k for something really nice but this is insane. Better bet, if you absolutely have your heart set on it, wait another year or two. The worlds about to go through some changes and people will be dropping watches left and right.
