Stella Is a rescued Starling that fell out of her next at only 10 days old. With her nest being well over 50 feet up in the air... sadly I wasn't able to get her back to her parents. So, the next best thing? Take care of her till she could survive on her own! .. Well, that didn't really work out as planned. She quickly became very attached and more of a pet than a wild bird. It became very clear she wasn't suited to live outside in the wild when she began to talk and say "stella is a pretty bird" at only 4 months old! The whistles followed quickly.. and she hasn't stopped learning yet! This is Stella as she grows over her first 5 months with us.

Aww he is beautiful! I raised four of them. When they were flying all around the house, I took them out and they flew all over the whole block.When the one I named Marley got tired he came back and landed on my chest! So we did this for about 10 days and then on the last day he never landed on me but he stayed in the trees in my yard, I put his cage outside and put food on the top. 1 saw him eat twice and then I never really saw just him again. Raising them was the most amazing thing ❤ 💛 I ever did!!

I have a Starling I rescued that fell out of the nest from about 75 feet in the roof of our indoor arena at the barn where my horse lives. He was about a week old when I got him, now he's 3 weeks old. I have nursed and set free several sparrows and have a baby finch, but this is my first Starling. I can't keep him, though, I have 8 indoor cats that look awfully hungry-eyed at him. I do worry because he is completely attached to me. In the car, he sits on my head. I allow him to fly in rooms closed away from the cats. The problem I am having now is trying to get him (we call him Big Bird) to eat without me having to stuff it down his throat. I want to set him free, but not until I am sure he can survive. Since my hose is too small for any measure of cage, I have a terrarium on the porch, but he gets upset in there too long. I put in crickets, and he has wax worms and all kinds of things in hay, so he can "search" and get them, but he has NO clue how to eat on his own. He gapes at them, expecting them to jump in his mouth! At night, since I don't want him on the porch due to predators, he sleeps in a tiny travel cage in our linen closet (safe from the cats).

Im here today cause i just found one starling fell out of the nest. 2 days ago. Now im a dad and a mom at the same time feeding and cleaning it poop. Terrance my son name him or her lol. I can't tell the gender. Anyway awesome video. Look like im going to have a new pet the way it seem. Was going to raised it and release it back into the wild once it can fly and be independent. Now im going to have to put money aside for college fund.

Found a fallen baby Starling a few weeks ago during work (on a Friday). I am a field technician for SouthWestGas corporation (Arizona). Didn't know what to do at the moment. Eventually decided to take him with me. His name is Griff by the way. Had to carry him the whole day in my car, while I was working. Tried to give him water, and then oranges during the day, but he wouldn't eat. Became very frail towards the end of the work day. (He was kind of frail to begin with). Came home in the evening, forcefully fed him cooked lamb meat and rice and also water. The next day he was surprisingly active and I would say - happy, with chirping and movements between the rooms I had not seen the day before. He found the cables at the back of my desktop computer and begun hanging out back there. The wires were like twigs for him, and there was also heat constantly pumped out of the computer desktop case. On the next day I took him to the "Liberty Wildlife" rescue center for birds - the largest in Phoenix. They take care of all brought in birds. Donated $20 to the center. Even to this day I cannot forget Griffie. Miss him.

Nice story - if you ever find a baby starling again, just know that you shouldn't give them water (babies can't swallow it and they can drown) or oranges, since babies only eat insects in the wild.

Dear LV-426...about that one person that said Wildlife Rehabbers euthanize Starlings...the same thing happened to me. They fell out of a nest, in horse barn I ride at....I got them to take 2 babies, via Animal Control picking them up. They were very young, hungry, healthy. I asked them to let me know how they are doing, I didn't know at the time, what kind of birds they were, I thought they were wild bird babies. They took 3 days to get back to me, with an email telling me they were Europeam Starlings, and they died. I didn't believe them!!! My gut knew better! I knew, immediately that they killed them, and after a phone call, they said they couldn't talk to me, because they were too "busy". I did research, and found out that being Starlings, not a wild American bird, imported from Europe, that they were totally legal to keep them as pets! I wanted to take them home, and feed them cat food, as my friend does, with her baby birds. I could kick myself. I know they killed them, as Wildlife people have the "Idea" they are an "invasive" species. They were released around the turn of the last century, in Central Park, NY, and that's how they got here. They are so adorable!!! They are better mimics than most Parrots!!! Next time, keep them, I know I will.

do you know how to tell a starlings gender?
@1besieged
@1besieged 4 года назад
You can google how to feed a starling, easiest thing is to soak high protein cat food I mixed in a strained meat (baby food) and some applesauce, bird will open it's beak to eat, if you have to pry it open to force feed at first just a little pea sized amount , do NOT give them water they will aspirate and die, once bird gets where it can eat on it's own a little , or with feathers, put a small dish of water in cage, but they often will eat tiny kibbles of dog food dry when older. I fed mine live wax worms they love to lift leaves and search for bugs, do not leave cage outside , cats will come around and kill bird, keep cage up high.. cats and dogs could and will harm your bird. Starling means ' little star' in German language, they are song birds native of Europe. Seek other advice for bird care, this is how I did it, DNR rescue people will often euthanize a starling so keep it .

I feel like it took quite awhile for her to eat on her own, so be sure to keep feeding yours regularly even while trying to teach to eat on their own. I had places to be at during the day, so what I did was feed on a consistent but “flipped” schedule. I fed every couple hours at night & then further apart as if it was night time feedings during the day since I would have to be out.

DuneDemon8 by just a few weeks old she was attached. It was due to her young age that I rescued her, she never associated with other birds properly. By just 10weeks she was speaking, not making starling noises. At that point she became a part of the family & stayed with us. She never wanted to interact with other birds, only dogs, cats, & humans... and the occasional squirrel peeked her interest as well haha! I consulted with several bird experts during her “baby” years & throughout. She went to a bird specialist regularly and had full range of the house most of the time & enjoyed flying all over our large house... but most often chose to sit on my head :)
@RebeccaBTusquare
@RebeccaBTusquare 6 лет назад
I ended up with a second starling that did not survive due to being far too underweight when I found her, and I could clearly see the difference in behavior as the other bird was just a week older than Stella had been when I found her. The second bird clearly behaved “properly” for a bird, but Stella never did.

@@RebeccaBTusquare I have rescued some starlings, if you rescue a next full they often want to go be 'wild' but if only one they bond to you as if you are the momma bird, they walk on floor, they will fly outside and land on you and they cannot go wild, they become domesticated, and it is legal to keep them as pets, best to possess a small game license though, cause DNR wants you to have it IF you keep a European Starling as a pet. They make the best bird pet I have ever owned. Starlings are very fun, entertaining, and smart, they are easy keepers.. You did a great job raising yours keep her domestic she loves you, you love her, don't listen to others, i know I have had 2 that become pets, one flew back into house w/ me when I tried to turn it loose.
