Stellar Blade (PS5) is a big new action game from a relatively unknown development studio. How is it? Let's talk. Subscribe for more: / gameranxtv ▼ Buy Stellar Blade: amzn.to/3vVUS9m Watch more 'Before You Buy': bit.ly/2kfdxI6
Yeah funny that, no excuses about gaming being too expensive to make no excuses about other bullshit things going on in the industry, no bowing down to bullshit ideologies either, now I hear Sony's going to bow down to it though, I hope it's not true but I've been hearing that Sony is trying to censor this game which is the wrong move to make, and it sounds to me like they're being influenced by Black Rock and Vanguard like all the other companies that bow down to the ESG Dogma mentality, problem is if they do this more often, they can effectively destroy their entire platform, I really hope that doesn't happen because it's good to have competition in the gaming market, because it means better games when there's competition, I don't want them to lose their business for some stupid decision they made, I want them to continue to exist.
@@user-tp5yb4hr4wSony made them censor graffiti so far. Hopefully that's where it ends. Really wish there was a PC release. Then I could mod out any future changes.
@@user-tp5yb4hr4w They all want to push the same agenda, even independent studios, but it's only a handfull of dev studios/solo devs the ones who try to make genuinely entertaining video games, Helldivers 2 and Stellar Blade are an example of that (there's a plethora or other games which also do not try to push any sort of agenda, but most of them are "pre culture war".
As most seem to overlook, (and/or hate to admit): focusing on content creation and one platform only usually results in a better product. Exclusivity is a testament of a studio's budget, time, and other resources not being split between multiple platforms, which usually results in said resources being more diminished. That's not to belittle or dismiss multiplatform games, but how often less optimized multi-plat games are compared to exclusive games? If one values quality over accessibility, exclusives are a benefit to the consumer. Yoshinori Kitase has gone on record saying that the vastness/scope and volume of FFVII Rebirth wouldn't have been possible if Rebirth was a multiplatform project.
This game is from an era when gaming was super fun, when Sony had a lot of 3rd party studios making games for them and the PS2 was flooded with good video games, we need more of this.
Please take me back to when games didnt suck ass In all seriousness the 6th gen went the hardest, i still enjoy 7th gen experiences but i feel like the xbox one,ps4 generation just wasnt as exciting
@OCT94 it's not a few though Even since January this year I've had nothing but massively good games to play And it's not like everyone has played everything There is always greta backlog games as well if you are bored Like right now I'm finally getting around to Octopath Traveller 2 and it's awesome (which was a great game of 2023)
In a world where every AAA company wants to enter the mobile market, we see a mobile company going against the flow and making a AAA game, and doing a good job at that! Got to respect that.
Its not a mobile company. the video just fails miserably in explaining who these shiftup people are. They're very skilled people who capitalised on mobile so they can eventually grow up and make actual games.
@@neozyykun "previously focused on mobile games" they never said that's all they did. You even said " people who capitalised on mobile" you failed miserably at watching and listing to the video lol
Gotta appreciate the devs, they created a full product, rather than relying on Eve as the entire selling point. Also, considering that this is their first triple A game is quite impressive. I'm glad they delivered!
Can I just say I appreciate the before you buy videos wayyyy more than IGN's reviews. You guys actually review it from a gamer's perspective and have some really good pros and cons every single time!!
The combat is definitely the highlight. The demo's boss challenge got me addicted to doing those special dodges against the blue, purple, and yellow attacks.
Same with Lies Of P, it was the dev's first full-fledged AAA game, and they made the best soulslike game outside of Fromsoft EVER!.....but Koreans man, they really go all in. Watch the gameplay trailers for Crimson Desert, DokeV and Plan 8, they'll blow you away!
Technically it is but shiftup is filled with very skilled people from the korean industry who gambled and made this studio so they can make whatecer tf they want.
ShiftUp has a perfect formula for a sequel. They got the combat right so all they need to do is expand upon the story and their characters, better side quests, more cohesiveness, improved gameplay etc. I think this game will become a new beloved franchise in the action genre and I’m all for it
You're right,With a polished gameplay and some minor changes they just need a better new story/direction to go and there you have an amazing saga for years
Yeah, they've got the pieces in place for a sequel that goes well beyond the original. And all they have to do is run with it. The best thing being that it appears set to do well in terms of sales. So they should have the opportunity to do just that.
The only two hang ups I have with it is her repetitive shouting during combat, and I noticed in the demo there was a long delay, especially during parrying. It wasn't as tight as I hoped it would be. Usually I wait until I finish other games before purchasing the next one, but I'm getting this day one. Do it for her!
@@Saihamarufor me I zoned out her screaming when I was trying to learn combat moves like I only released she screamed this much from watching this video😂
It looks really cool. I really hope this one gets a PC version eventually. The only problem i did notice was that there is this one shout sound effect that she uses way way too often. It got annoying in this video alone. I really hope im not the only one who thinks that way and people actually give feedback to the devs to fix this. This would be such an easy fix, just add more shout voice lines and make that one have a lower chance of being picked
@@progmrz5512 yes, but Nikke's audience is more niche than a first party PS5 game & has a... not so good reputation. Also I'm well aware of the fact both games share devs (nothing against Shift Up, Nikke is actually a well made game, despite such mixed pr & the fact I've never played it💀)
Its so annoying, its the only thing stopping me from buying the game because I know after the first five minutes of combat im gona get sick of hearing it and turn the game off 😂
Jake Baldino, from the old neighborhood. Da guy....with da thing...OH! Get ova heeea, Aei!, look who it is, Mr. Videogame. How's things in Marioland? I hear dose PS5 systems are all the rage. Truckload, score, Christmas, Marone!
I'm an avid Nikke enjoyer. Shift Up is a developer that often does surveys , asks players what they want and delivers on that. I will play Stellar Blade when and if it comes out on PC.
The game feels super slick. I liked lies of P but the parrying felt a bit too hard to pull off at times. Considering that some fights heavily rely on parrying, it was frustrating. Stellar blade feels similar but with cleaner parries and slightly larger parry windows. Feels really good. Picking it up the moment it releases
I like how Shift up made grotesque clay creatures first and then scanned them in, it really shows how much they put into this game. ( they really put their heart and creativity into this game)
Amazing review as always Jake. I’m about 4 hours in and I gotta say, I had a feeling creeping up on me about the story and just the general vibe of the world building. Couldn’t quite put my finger on it till you described it. Hit it on the head about the combat though. Also love the visuals.
Awesome review. Watching this video while playing Shift Up's recent game, Goddess of Victory: Nikke. I'll be picking the game up sometime next month as I'm still going through some backlogs.
It really shouldn't be someone else's opinion on a game to make you want to get a game or not. How pathetic. If you are interested in the game, then get it. If not, then don't make an easy decision
@@tyleroutland435 all they do is inform me of what the game is before I play it. I don’t alway agree with or have the same taste as them, they just help me get a feel for what a game is so that I can make an informed decision. Thanks for the reply so that I can clarify.
The corvette is an interesting analogy. I honestly thought the game was going to be more character action based similar to the action games like Devil May Cry, Bayo, even Hi Fi Rush.
She makes the exact same HUAAA sound twice during the little combat sequence at 6:30. Is there a way to turn that off? Or turn down her volume specifically? The constant screaming during combat kinda drives me crazy lol
The Gameranx Crew is like the gaming friends I used to hang with in the 90s to 2000s, talking the way we talked, enjoying the games we enjoyed. You know, the TMNT, Gargoyles, Onimusha, Friday night martial arts or horror movies with pizza, and weekend gaming binge generation. I get what I need to know in the lingo I grew up with. It feels like home.
Oh man... I loved Gargoyles as a kid. They need to bring that back (though I'll probably be disappointed with it). Onimusha 3 was also one of my favorite games.
I really appreciate the honesty my guy. Even though this is a day one buy for me, I understand your personal gripes with it. I'm coming for challenging combat primarily, and aesthetic and design second. Story and the exploration experience was lower on my priorities for the game. I respect your opinion a lot sir
This games reminds me of Devil May Cry to an extent and that good enough for me to get it. I really hope they do make another one of those games. The last one looked really good for it to be on PS4 (DMC5)
When a developer was inspired by Fromsoftware and Santa Monica, you know the Gameplay and Combat is S tier. I really hope this game would get a spotlight it deserved!
From what I played of the demo, I agree about how fighting multiple enemies feels clunky. I think the biggest issue is that it doesn't really seem like you can cancel attacks to block or dodge. Your stuck committing to them, so finding an opening when surrounded by a mob of weak enemies is a pain. Hopefully that gets mitigated some later in the game, or in a patch at some point, though it might make boss fights _too_ easy, so maybe not. Either way, not as obnoxious as Dark Souls 2's attack queuing, so I'll live.
@@necroheartplucker Unions probably. Capcom doesn't employ VA's from unions so their characters have been inconsistent for decades. Some good, others bad.
Wow, the fluidity of the animations and camera is phenomenal! This is a very well done game visually and mechanically, it appears. It's crazy to me how good the game play capture looks in this video.
From playing the demo, I'm kinda excited to play this game, the combat is pretty fun, the soundtrack is rockin and the story seems somewhat interesting. So keen for the weekend off work, to play this all night.
2 days in the future here: Before you Buy, understand that this game was promised to be uncensored in terms of gore. Sony has IMMEDIATELY did a 180 and censored a scene in the game where Eve get’s *real* bloody, among many others. I happened to notice it on the first fight I did with the boss pertaining to the censorship compared the patch note it was censored on. If you have a physical copy of this game, DO NOT UPDATE IT! Fair warning for every one who has a physical disc edition like me!
I didn't really understand the Corvette analogy there at first, but I kinda get it now. The English voice acting is a good example. Eve sounds pretty, shiny, and classy, but 2B and A2 are classic Stingrays that express passion and depth of character. Thinking of giving the Korean voices a try, but I am a simple Jack and can barely walk and chew gum at the same time, let alone read subtitles and play video games.
Finally playing it tonite after work I didn't know u can change haircolor..maybe hairstyle? I definitely agree with multi enemy fights from the demo I wish it had a lil more arkham feel
Pretty much a strait non-bias review of the gameplay, bits of the story and overall experience. No mentions of the censorships of the costumes, gore and the graffiti.
Looking foward to playing it on PC and hopefully they can polish it up a bit. the attraction is the gourgous protagonist but the star and core of the game is the combat and monsters. sadly that is lost on some people but then so much is for them.
Combat is a high, exploration is enjoyable (oo shiny!), the only thing I wish for is a "replay section" or a "section grade" feature. I want the sweet sweet victory sensation of seeing a perfect score on an area, or see how I've done in a combat scenario
I'm actually done with gaming in general at this point I only play games I just want to play games enjoy them and beat them no coverage no gameplays no walkthroughs just let me have a trailer. No hate to gameranx the stellar blade thing and the dei stuff has left a very sour taste in my mouth for gaming it's been there for a while.
Already preordered it. I am really looking forward to it. At first I thought it would be decent at best but after I played the demo I just fell in love with the gameplay and couldnt get enough. At that point I already knew I would be preordering it even if the story wouldnt be that good. I also already knew about Shift Up since I am playing one of their mobile games and the fact that its such a decent game for their first try in this market is making me hopeful. I am really surprised and hope it sells well so they take more steps into AAA developent in the future!
the boss fights kind of remind me of the mini boss fights from og god of war, I really hope this game gets released on PC and has a chance for a sequel, the combat looks so good.
Reminds me of Nier Automata in a way story wise on the surface, plus the action too. May not be as deep, of course, but the premise seems alike. And i already pre ordered because it just looks like a game i would enjoy
@@colcasey3853 Doesn't have to be tbh. Nier was special, it had layers and details. The character designs where 2B wore an eye mask while 21O wore face masks were well thought out. For those unaware it's based on the "see no evil, speak no evil" principal idea which unravels itsself as you play the game.
That part! I know everyone is saying the story is dry and characters arent memorable but some of the best action games from the past weren’t known for the story it was known for the gameplay and action 😂
Nowadays gammers have got a new brainrot. If A gAmE hAs No StOrY oR pErSoNaLiTy ThEn It Is A tRaSh GaMe. Too much handholding have ruined games. I always look for gameplay + combat in a game first, story last(I don't care Jack sh1t about a story). I want games to be games where u press buttons and learn new mechanics.
@@catch-me-niGa as a fan of story games, and someone who looks primarily for a good story, characters and soundtrack first, but also appreciates great gameplay, I couldn't disagree more. A game can have a super fun awesome gameplay loop or combat system, but it won't draw me back into replaying or thinking fondly of the game outside of playing it like a good story, characters and music would. A mechanically fun game will give me a fun time while playing, but I've played a story game that changed my life drastically. A game couldn't do that to me with gameplay.
Then u play the wrong games cause some games are famous because only the game play just cause aint final fantasy wit some crazy ass story it ain't good game many great games were know only for game play like dmc and prince of persia
How well does her screaming and grunting after every attack hold up after 20-30 hours? I was growing a little weary of it after about 20-30 seconds into this video.
I don't mind my wife's screams, grunts and moans and it's been 20+ years 😂 On a serious note, it's always worse in a video repeating the same actions over and over, you're not spending all the time fighting ingame, I didn't even notice it in the demo.
Already preordered! Having played the demo quite a few times, I absolutely love the combat it’s so satisfying and the music is amazing! I don’t need the best story in the world (being a Resident Evil junkie😅) as long as the gameplay is good and fun then that’s all that matters.
The characters look absolutely stunning and i can’t wait if it ever releases on PC to get my hands on the models… love to create my own wallpapers with those.
Sad that they censored the game post disc printing. If you want the uncensored version, get the physical disc. 4 outfits were altered post disc printing. So all digital versions WILL be censored :(
Buying the physical copy of the game and not connecting to online will only stop you from being able to get future DLC. Is an outfit really worth not getting future content? 😂

If everything was memorable and the next big thing it loose the unique feeling you can have in that moment. I agree with you, sometimes having a small escapism is all you need.
Gameranx, the only video game people (and a bird) FOR the people! Love ya! I bet they seen all the comments about the "Before you Buy" on the other videos and decided to release early. 😁
I'm sad to say it but it's true, this game is a standout because it focuses on gameplay and is a complete, functioning product. A lot of developers focus on dialogue, storytelling, and big ideas but forget to make a game.
@@cenciende9401 no. Not WRONG. Other than Nintendo and Indie games… MOST AAA games focus more on dialogues, and cutscenes, rather than gameplay. And that’s why there’s so many freaking bugs and constant patches that’s why we never get them 100% complete. Developers need to invest most of their time and budget into the gameplay and performance rather than realistic cutscenes so much dialogue. Find a way to incorporate the dialogue/story along with the gameplay (ZELDA AND NIER FOR EXAMPLE) Leave all that long ass cutscenes shit for movies. That is all facts
It’s almost like devs have different things they focus on because they aren’t all trying to make the same action adventure games. I don’t play Disco Elysium and Baldurs Gate and cry about all the dialogue
I LOVE THIS GAME! The shouting got patched and is not bad anymore. Also, change the language to Japanese, since there is no Korean option. Much more immersive, felt less jarring than the British voice for me.
No it don't ff7 rebirth is just a buch pretty cut scenes wit annoying gameplay at times and down right lack of story to point u don't understand half the shit going on
@@jameswebb7806 lol ff7 rebirth has top notch gameplay and combat and excellent story telling. there’s a reason it was highly praised and extremely well received.
@@jameswebb7806 even if you think the game sucks it being a heavy goty contender is objective. There are A LOT of final fantasy fans in the gaming community and they are VERY loyal to the game. It got a lot of hype and positive feedback from many people, even people who never even played a ff game before. if there isn't any huge competition against it, it's definitely winning lol
The combat was honestly way deeper than I expected and along with the enemy variety makes the game great fun! Eve being super gorgeous is simply an added bonus to a very nice game.
Sold... adding it to the long list of games to start playing.. currently plowing though FF7 remake and dave the diver atm. God I wish there were more hours in the day
