Thank you!!! Followed your instructions and my Fenix 5x is back to life again. I guess the original battery had a pretty good run of 5 years. Hope to get a couple more years out of the new battery. Thank you, again, Jon!!
Thank you for this very good guide. The battery was very difficult to remove. I carefully warmed it up a bit with a hairdryer (carefully!!!). The glue then softened and the battery could be removed. Clock is running perfectly again. Greetings from Germany Dirk
@dirk2901 Greetings from the UK! So glad it helped - the softening is fine as long as you're careful and it sounds like you were :-) Great to keep another Garmin watch running!
Hi Jon, do you know if it's possible to replace the batteries on newer garmin watches? Forerunner 245 / 255, newer Fenix etc? I have a Fenix 5 but I'm afraid to upgrade to a newer watch that I'll have to bin in the future.
Thanks for the guide. I couldn't get the battery off easily (didn't want to heat it myself) and decided to bring the part to a shop. But this guide was helpful and explained the important parts.
@bbizzle6901 thanks for your comment and for your patience. Unfortunately the process is a little different for the non-X version. I believe you have to go in from the reverse side of the watch rather than from the front… Other than that I think it’s quite similar. Let me know how you get on?
I did it, however, after replacement, I only can start the watch by connecting the charger cable, and the starting button doesn't work. After disconnecting the charging cable the watch switches off immediately. It seems as if the battery is not connected. Any idea?
@markis7894 glad the video helped :-). Yes, I think this happened to me once - it’s just a case of the battery connector not being pressed down properly. Take the face off and check your connections again. Let me know how you get on?
@@LockeCole88I managed to fix it. The small connector needs a decent pressure to be fully connected. I took a pointed tool to really press it down. Now it works perfectly!
So, considering the battery life on this model is about half of the newer ones, do you think it would be possible to put a 'thicker' battery inside? Or maybe double up on a single battery. Iss there enough room inside the watch for this? It seems fairly deep to me, but its hard to tell on teh video.
@freddykruger3320 thanks for your comment - no from what I saw it was tight with 1 battery - I definitely don't think you would get two in there. Hope that helps?
Kind of a shot in the dark, but my Phoenix 3HR only shows a Garmin sign. I tried to hard reset by holding down the correct button for 30 seconds, but it just went back to the Garmin screen. Does anyone else have any experience with the same issue?
@apk29 Thanks for the comment! Really glad it helped & sorry for missing off the link for the replacement battery. I got mine from Amazon geni.us/QWH37 Hope that helps? Let me know how your repair goes!
@@apk29 @FixItWithJohn I had the same thought, as far as I can find information everyone is tearing down the front of the watch, why not do it through the back of the watch?
I opened up my 5x to replace the battery but after I reassembled everything the whole screen now flickers, each button no longer shows up on the screen. I can only soft reset the watch as I cannot see any options to hard reset as the buttons don’t show up on screen. Is there a solution for this?
@jamiele6465 Sounds like the ribbon connector that connects the screen to the pcb is not quite seated correctly. I would open it up again and double check it is pressed in squarely and firmly. Hope that makes sense? Let me know how you get on? Many thanks, Jon
@pejobenkovic4471 Thanks! Glad it was helpful - no, unfortunately the 5x and 5x plus are not compatible - they are secured in different ways. Hope that helps - good luck with your repairs!
I plan on doing this fix for my watch but I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty terrified that the replacement battery will explode while the watch is on my wrist... 😅
