I love how you spend most of this video and other videos explaining the “whys.” Having a deeper understanding of each step helps so much. A lot of other videos just give you the steps without a full understanding on why they are so important to succeeding. Just watching some of your videos as leveled my game on mycology exponentially. Thanks for the information.

Yeah I learn much better when I know WHY something is done. It also allows for experimentation based on principle, rather than having to watch/read a bunch of tutorials/recipes and find the pattern between them all. So glad I found this video; now I'll be scouring his upload catalogue for all his videos! :)

In the video he says 4A bags. Would you still need an injection port if you're not going to be shipping the bags? In another Humble Fungus video I saw they were doing break and shake before sealing, could you just inoculate the open bag before sealing? I think this is how Mossy Creek does it but I'm not sure. An injection port wouldn't save you from needing a flow hood right?
@sheeeitmayn4384

@@muudzi having an injection port sorta does save you from needing laminar flow hood since you aren't actually opening the bag and exposing the inside contents besides the needle but you can sterilize that right quick any way

So I tried this last night, weighed everything out to what he said water and millet. My bags are a different dimension but the same thickness (6mm) pressure cooked for 2 ½ hours. But I think I messed up because it was late and when it got done I just left them to cool with the cooker. When I got to them in the morning around half or more of the grain had bust. But the bags were sealed really good when I removed them. Oh and I think I probably ran a higher temp, as I let the weight rock instead of watching the gauge, I think the gauge said 17psi. I'm still going to try the bags to see what happens but I probably will not let them sit to cool in the PC next time

It has an inoculation injection point. My question is could I use a sterile syringe and inject some demineralised/distilled water into the bag followed by my liquid culture to make sure it has the moisture it needs to inoculate the bag?

Hello there! And a very Happy New year to you. This video is simply brilliant especially for a novice shroomy as myself. I do have a question for you. I'm using a presto 16qt PC and wondered if I am reducing the amount of grain to say 500g to accomodate the reduced space in the pc do i then half the amount of water required for the bag ie 250mls? I'm being mindful re space as you recommend leaving enough space at the top to stop any issues with the valve. Anyway I do hope this makes some sense! I do hope to buy a 23qt presto but here in the UK they are not available and cost silly money to get them sent over seas. Take care bud

Obviously I'd downscale the recipe size, but I'm wondering about the technical stuff like "leaving the bag open to let the vaccum seal them naturally" -- would I leave the jars on but loosened? Agree about corn. The kernels quickly colonize individually, but dont cake as easily, if at all. Wish it was better, since it's cheap. Experimenting with everything. Quinoa, amaranth, farro- just for fun. Millet is quickest, but seems prone to contamination. I'm sure it's my cooking time.
