I'm the owner's sister sitting on the side lines. As a little update, the owner and Vincent are doing very well and they both continue to make positive progress. Joel is as amazing in person as he is on screen. Thank you ❤

This was the best "training the owner" I have ever seen on the internet. She is a FANTASTIC owner who listens well and doesn't go all woe-is-me when she makes a slight mistake. And your instructions were PERFECT, step by tiny step with full explanations, but not too wordy (some trainers go overboard on the philosophy, which is okay for background but not during actual training). I especially liked when you talked about all the tiny little things which can trigger the dog without our realizing it. When you said at the beginning that you got pretty hardcore, I thought you meant you had to be a little strong with the dog. But at the end you called it "hardcore obedience," which made me smile. IMHO every dog/owner team should be able to do this. You just gave a master class in how to do it. I nominate this woman for your next round of Best Owner awards.

Hey! That woman is me! Thank you so much. I'll be honest, I wasn't fully sure I understood what was meant by "hard core obedience". And even after 8mo, I was really struggling with his reactivity (he looks so perfect in this video, I was almost mad at him lol) It wasn't until I heard someone say "stop letting him make decisions", that it clicked. Now, when we go on walks, I make sure he only sniffs and relieves himself when I give him the OK. (he still has plenty of roam time, but it's structured now), and I am so proud to say he finally made his first real friend! One final note, I had to reframe my thinking. I'm not training Vincent, I'm training "me" on how to engage with the world and Vincent. I've had to build my confidence and how I display it, allowing myself to "take up space" (otherwise Vincent thinks I'm scared of the person I'm moving away from), and other little "tells" I just wasn't aware of. In May 2024, I will have had him for a year. And it's been an amazing, frustrating, agonizing, and wonderful journey so far. But I'm so happy to have Vincent laying at my feet right now. Taking a much needed nap after successfully navigating a crowded grocery store. He's a great dog. And Joel has been a much needed and appreciated resource.

So much respect for this trainer, he takes the human ways out and completely understands dog behaviour and how to read it. He also understands that balanced dogs are great to help other dogs know how to behave.

Hey Mr Joel Beckman sir , i just wanna say omg thank you so much , because of your training sir my 5 year old black labradoor is so incredibly well behaved and happy go lucky that yesterday i took him to lowes hardware store , my dog was so calmly behaved that a guy came up petted my labradoor and said he was very good behaved dog , i said thank you sir i have been training him really really really hard to help him get comfortable with the general public , the guy replies back then it seems your training is starting to pay off , then my neighboor asked i f i was a dog trainer just cause of 1.the fact my dog was calmly sitting waiting to be told break so he could go home , and 2. cause i told my neighboor that fearful energy is very dangerous enerygy cause if he is fearful then general dog breeds will pick up on the fearful energy which will trigger agression in the dog's brain , Joel i wanna let you know sir that not a day has gone by that i have not been doing what you said , after my dog leaves the parking lot he is not getting up his only 2 options are 1. sit calmly until told to break or 2. lay down cause once i enter a public place he is not allowed to get up so he is going to learn this is not gonna work either sit or lay down , after while my dog ended up learning to sit or lay down so much that now when im at the dog park my dog would litterally lay down without me saying it , or if im at a local starbucks or other place similair to starbucks my dog is always calmly sitting never makes makes 1 sound not 1 sound comes out of my dog while in the general public , i personally cant thank you enough for helping me train my dog to become a better more well behaved dog , then on farther's day because of you Mr.Beckman sir my dog knew not to kangeroo jump pose on my grandpa and grandma and then couple weeks ago i took him to petco and omg the entire staff loved him so much that this 1 individual there said my dog had the cutest smile , joel because of you sir i got the 1 thing i always wanted a furry companion i can take out to "DOG Friendly places" even my mom said that my training is starting to take effect , thank you so much sir , with out your taining vids i wouldnt be able to do this if it was not for you , im so so so so so so so so so sorry this is such long paragraph , by the way every time im at the dog park i tell the other dog parents about you

You just proved to me that there is no one size fits all training technique for solving challenges. You demonstrated that someone who has a tough love approach recognizes the dog’s ability to focus and demonstrate self control and build on it. The soft, fluffy stuff does not help working dog breeds like Shepherds. The mum and her partner are really on it and it is clear that the method is making sense to them. Awesome stuff!!!

I had this happen with a shepherd mix I used to own. He was totally fine with people, except one evening walk when a man was walking behind me and started to close the gap rapidly. It was in a big city and I got uneasy. The man caught up with me, politely said Hello, and my dog put himself between him and me with a serious WOOF. No lunging, no teeth baring, just a Who the Hell Are You. I realized the guy was fine, he passed by, and my dog went back to evening stroll mode. I don't think I ever tightened the leash, but I must have done something he picked up on. I love German shepherds, and I like the dog in this video.

Your videos are great! My dog "May" (50% American Eskimo/30% Chihuahua/20% Australian Sheperd mix) is a handful, to say the least. I want to get her further along so we don't have to constantly worry about her hurting dogs whose owners aren't in control of their dogs. At 6-month-old, she'd been in 3 homes before us. Playing would overstimulate May and would bite us pretty hard. Once, May saw a dog far away and went crazy trying to go after the dog. When preventing May from doing so, she attacked my fiance. When the dog went out of sight, May was suddenly fine and walked home with my fiances' blood on her face. At a trainer's home, she started running in a circle, jumping on the back of the couch we sat on, biting my head as she went behind us. The trainer said she was dangerous and needed meds to get her to the point of being trained. May would probably never be a "normal dog." Meaning May couldn't be trusted around other dogs and will still have episodes at times. With hard work, she is much better. May has learned most of her limits and behavioural commands. May can still revert to her vicious behaviour when extremely overstimulated or frustrated, but it takes a lot. I know how to calm her down. Using your techniques, I think I can improve and solve May's lingering problems.

Pretty sure youtube can hear my thoughts, but I'm so glad your channel was recommended to me. I have wanted a pair of dobermans since I was a little girl, but I have never had the opportunity, or the funds before. While I doubt I can handle training two dogs at a time, I supposedly have an inheritance coming my way. If that's true, I really want a doberman as my service dog. It's not that big of an inheritance. I won't be able to afford the training, but I'll finally be able to afford the dog. I'll have to train it myself, but I am disabled, and I won't be able to do the go get method unless it's a very very short distance. Hopefully, I will have a motorized wheelchair by then, and I will be able to do leash training. Do you have any advice for me?

It’s more like a aggressive bark and he is going to be 6 month old on July 7 th and he is big 47 lb tall pup. Need help as well. Thx for these videos. We put him in daycare for socialization, he barks aggressively at my neighbours she pup who is about 8 months old but ones he is close to her on leash he is very gentle and playful with each other. Hi Joel. Thank you for this video! This video is closest to the answer I am looking for yet my problem is different. I am desperate for a help. My malinoise is balanced and well trained in IGP. However, at home, he get triggered when we let him out. As soon as the door is open, he goes half out, turns around jumps, barks and pounce on the door. He cracked the edge of the door by pouncing on the door. I tried putting leash on him before letting him out to Controle him, tried E collar to stop him pouncing on the door, tried poking him to distract but actually this was super dangerous as he tried to bite me back. I don’t know what to do. Apart from this insane vicious behavior triggered by door when we let him out, my malinoise is most balanced calm dog with everybody & most of dogs. What can I do to fix this trigger with door? Grace

@Flippokid
@Flippokid 11 месяцев назад
Desentization. RU-vid videos of fireworks can help, but they won't get you all the way there. The hard part is setting up training sessions with live firework going on at enough distance that you can train him. If you are able to get some people to ignite some fireworks, find a distance that he doesn't bark to it, and you practice there. Then slowly get closer and closer.

This commentary is not particulary related to this video but related to most of your videos and it's just to express my take on this. I obviously want my dog to be cool, not agressive and not barking all the time. But where i have a different view than you and probably most of people around, is that i don't want my dog to be perfect, to be a robot, i love my dog so much that i see him as a friend and even a family member. So would i dress my sister if i had one to be a robot that is perfect and looks like all others, no. I keep in mind that it's a animal but i also want him to have default and be himself. So yeah my dog that is a Jack Russel, eat try to eat all he can on streets like if he was a trashcan and i tried to stop him everytime, yes he don't listen to me all the time but most of the time he do. But that's ok to me. I've fixed all things that would attempt to his security and all things that would bother other people, but i left a big part of what you would call default and that are his things to let him his soul.
