Very instructional video. I think you could avoid spacing issues by simply overlapping 1 hole each time you re-punch the next set of holes. Also you might try a rounding at the bottom as well it will be harder to get your holes punched but will ride nicely in tour pocket.

I love how chill you are ... I am so anal that I have literally tossed almost completed slips and such. My OCD just won't allow me to look past mistakes. I am assuming you already know now, but for others who don't know how the stitch ended up being too wide of a space "in between" the punches. You need to set the first prong in the last hole as you punch each set of holes. Then they will always be perfectly spaced. Also, there are no rules in how to finish your stitching but I prefer to actually tie on both sides and then pinch the ties in the second to last hole. I also back stitch at the top just as you did at the bottom giving it a little stronger stitching where the most stress will take place over the life time of use.

Let the glue dry some, until it becomes tacky. Around 3 to 5 minutes. It will not seep out and will stick better

Nice work dude. You can get a tip for that marking tool you used that will cut a shallow groove for your your stitching to lay flush with the leather surface fir a clean look

Very nice video for beginners. I am still one myself. Only tip I could offer is to get a rubber hammer instead. One with weight in the head, but not TOO much. That'll help with controlling your hits and keeping your steel tools alive for longer.

👍🏼I like your slips. Do slips ever have clips? Maybe another layer of leather for clip to rivet to. Not sure. Don’t really like things down in my pocket. ??
@doodysdaggers
@doodysdaggers 11 месяцев назад
Lancelot Leather makes some great “clip slips” as well as some other leather makers. Personally I keep my slip in the same pocket as my primary knife, so I like it down in my pocket

"Case" your leather before stamping or tooling the leather. You do this by wetting it slightly with a moist sponge or cloth and letting it rest for 5-10 minutes. Also want to do any tooling or stamping before sewing

Use a rubber or plastic mallet to prevent maring the ends of your stitching chisels

It looks like those zip ties could cause a indent if they stick out to far, might want to sink them into the leather on the vise so that they make no contact with your leather work piece. .

@@doodysdaggers I’ve given it a lot of thought, and I think I’m going to start refurbishing blades/knives. I travel a lot, so I’m always in hotel rooms.
