Step Inside This 160 year old Abandoned Country Doctors House Down South in North Carolina

This beautiful old town house was built in the late 1800’s in a small coastal southern town. Before hospitals and large medical centers doctors would typically work from home or an office in town. This place would serve as both for a man who actually was a doctor and veteran of the American civil war. Settling in this small once thriving railroad town in the late 1800’s. The house would remain in his family until the 1920’s and then before the Great Depression it was used briefly as a hotel. Then for a few decades it was turned into a rental home until ultimately being left forgotten between 1990-2000. My apologies for the neighbors popping off, listen with the sound lowered if loud noises aren’t your thing. Thanks for watching! Like and leave a comment if you enjoyed! Thank you!

I agree, however, life brings unexpected illnesses, and deaths, leaving good intentions to hit the wayside, sadly. Additionally, some folks think relatives will desire what you willed, and/or entrusted them, and it's sometimes not what they ever wanted to own.

WOW! That first house, with the wrap-around porch is so quaint! Sad to see these historic places just melting back into nature. 7:55 if I recall correctly, that's called tiger oak due to its natural striping. It's not painted. 8:32 appears to be a gas lantern that was added after the fact, which would explain the piping coming up inside the room, rather than buried in the wall.

That organ is a truly a work of art and should be preserved at all cost! I have a feeling that several families lived there after the doctor did, they probably moved all their belongings in and arranged them around the organ and piano. I'm guessing the white keys on both the organ , and the piano are made from ivory. How nice to see such a grand place that hasn't been vandalized... yet...

At first I thought that was tiger oak on the trim and fireplaces, but when you showed the close up of the door it's easy to see it was faux wood grain. I've seen that done in other old houses but had forgotten all about it. They take plain wood and varnish it, and while the varnish is still wet they drag tools through it to create a wood grain effect. Beautiful house, love the staircase and banisters, and the bright and open layout. Nice old Southern belle. Another one where a metal roof saved it, could be restored.

Two great houses. The doctor's house was a real charmer in its day. All the fire places were awesome. I love the woodwork. I always enjoy seeing the old pump organs and pianos. Often they're left behind because of their weight. Some fifty years ago I had a playerpiano. It was heavier than I ever expected and like so many other people I had to leave it behind because it was too heavy to move. That pump organ is stunning. I bet with a little elbow grease and repairing the bello's it would come to life once again. I was really surprised as to how big the second house was. It certainly didn't look that way from the outside. Two great houses and another wonderful adventure. Thanks Kappy, for bringing us along 🤠👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

My grandmother had a pump organ similar to the one shown here. I never saw anyone play it, so it leaves me to believe that it was originally owned by my great grandmother. She was insane, but she was kept at home, I remember her quite well, she terrified me because she was rather wild acting and could get violent at the drop of a hat. She wore high neck blouses, long floor length dresses with petticoats underneath and hook shoes and her hair pulled back in a bun. The odd fixture in the upstairs room is as someone said is a gas lamp, they became common fixtures in many houses before electricity. I was born in and still live in North Carolina, the landscape is dotted with abandoned houses and other structures.

This house appears to be very late 19th or early 20th century... The wood work is grain painted... The central front hall (stairway) has had a wall removed making an open plan... The fixture on the wall upstairs is a gas light with the striker still attached but missing its glass shade... This could have been carbide... My Tennessee farmhouse still has some carbide lighting in place... The red brick fireplaces are fairly modern rebuilt... The second house looks 1920s to 1940... I like the rim (surface mounted) locks on all the doors...

The doors that you asked if they were painted that way; were actually painted to resemble oak. It was called faux painting &/or feather painting. Used on pine to make it look like more expensive oak.

Two great houses. Love those 40s kitchens. And no full bath in the first. Strange. Thanks for sharing. ❤
