The rhythm generated from his soul -- it filled his entire body from his toes to his head and back down to his toes. He was an original. One of a kind. He became the song. You don’t just HEAR Elvis Presley- you FEEL HIM.

It was the lyric sheet. In ‘That’s The Way It Is’ he is seen trying to remember the words of this song and saying he will be alright once he gets over the opening lines.

Elvis had no problem using a lyric sheet if he knew he may not remember the words. That’s what makes him so GREAT! He didn’t hold off performing a song because he may not remember the lyrics,. Live, Love Elvis.

If you don't love Elvis.. something's wrong. this man was incredible.. My Mom raised me on him.. but as a 57 yr old adult myself. he knows music and entertaining.. he was also so gorgeous.. dang.. 6 ft tall with those blue eyes and cheekbones and that dang grin... I melt as a straight woman. Oh Lord.. don't hate me.. yes I would have gone there.. lol I'm a child of Hair band era.. never been a groupie.. truly not in me... but Elvis.. if I was in that era.. maybe so.. 😀

He did love to have fun, he was very self deprecating. Having watched him since 1956, he never put himself above others he loved to sing and make people laugh at the same time. It's interesting at first in the early days he never was sure he was liked, he downplayed his ability, he said he wasn't the King Jesus was. He actually never got over the fact he had so many fans. He once said to hair dresser Larry Geller, "Why me, why did God scoop me up and give me all this, Larry most of my early life I didn't even have an indoor bathroom? Thank you for your wonderful reaction.

This is my most favourite Elvis song - after seeing him singing it in Elvis That's The Way It Is it made me become a fan for life - during rehearsals when he was singing this in TTWII he was having trouble remembering the words and asked Charlie to have the lyric sheet on stage in case he needed it - just amazing x

One of my absolute favourite songs. You were right the first time, this was a new song to him, and he was unsure of the lyrics so Charlie gave him a copy at the start. You'll notice he does fluff a line later on but he just grins and carries on. The music runs through him from head to toe and everyone on stage follows his lead. Complete master of his craft, what I wouldn't give to have been at one of these shows ❤

Extremely handsome, extraordinary voice from God and Son Jesus Christ and in addition he was a very generous man. I saw him in concert three times (once in Las Vegas), never disappointed. For some reason Elvis was worried about remembering the words to this song (rehearsal videos show this) and Elvis being Elvis was totally honest and uninhibited on stage and was unafraid to let people know this. When he was performing he was always 🔥 I love that man and miss him very much.

It's real, the lyrics to this song gave Elvis fits LOL! He had the lyrics in his hand as you saw and he STILL managed to mess up near the end which is why you see him look back and shrug hahaha! This song is a beautiful song originally sung by BJ Thomas, but Elvis makes it his own as he does with all the songs he covers. BJ Thomas singing it is wonderful though, I don't take away from his rendition, just once I've heard Elvis sing a song that is all I can think of. I understood what you said about Elvis' lower part of his body. The thing is, when he was still healthy he simply could not keep still when music was playing. He felt the music and he had to move ( I suppose if it was music he didn't like he wasn't that way )! You have such a great voice, very soothing! I love your Elvis reactions, thank you so much!!

No he was really worried about this song. As he was waiting to go on stage he said to his friend Charlie Hodge, who sang back up and handed Elvis his water and scarfs, how about sticking the words to the top of a stool. He said once he got past the first verse he’d be OK. Can be seen on That’s the Way It Is. Doesn’t matter anyway cos whatever Elvis done was magic 💙 Loving your reactions and enjoying watching Elvis. A charming and appreciative reaction from you. I enjoyed hearing your mellow voice along the other one on screen! This performance is cover of a song that was only recently released by BJ Thomas. Lyrically, Elvis wanted to get it right. Rehearsals of the song and his backstage anxiety about it, can be seen in the movie “That’s the Way It Is”. Whilst Elvis had a superlative memory for lyrics, names, events, etc, the order of wordy verses could throw him.. He said if he had an initial prompt, he would be fine with the rest. He was, with one funny exception. There was a moment near the end of this clip where he and the backing singers sung different lines; Elvis laughed and turned to his singers to acknowledge his error! Overall, this is another track where the church appears to be in the mind or heart - many of his songs have that underlying spiritual power that makes songs resonate on more than one level. Here, as he tends to do, he clearly owns the stage through very little floor movement. It’s a gift!

Love his performances. He was blocked about the first verse so he renewed his memory. 😅 He does everything so calmly that it looks like a part of the act. He was so anxious about it before hand. Thanks so much. Love watching your Elvis reactions. ❤❤❤❤. By the way I’m sending you a link to play for yourself or for us with Elvis just doing a casual rehearsal, but includes his love and respect for the Sweet Inspirations. It’s lots of fun because it’s so much fun to watch with rehearsal of song “ Words”. He loved them and they loved him”. The one girl said in an interview once. You’ll see as he’s on stage he’s always looking towards his left of the stage. He’d always look at them as he sang especially after a great song and smile. For some reason , he seemed comforted by the their banter and approval. They showed them once smiling back at him. People don’t always know how anxious he’d be before coming on stage. He stated after his 3rd song or so he’d relax and get lost in the music. It must have been hard to be a one man show with no one to banter with. But he exuded confidence and only people close to him knew how nervous he was before every performer. They have a couple of tapes showing his anxiety. Here’s the link on the Sweet Inspirations during rehearsal. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LaHgZ2eHOZU.htmlsi=urTdH3fYnlIyLQTU

Kings! In the documentaries like 'That's the way it is' you see him backstage and nervous about remembering the lyrics to this song. You will notice he actually screws up the song lyrics in the last verse and he smiles at his group letting them know he muffed it but, that ain't no problem for Elvis, he smoothed it out like a well worn river rock and I don't think anyone in that audience was the wiser. Check it out you'll see. Love your reactions!

Love your reactions pal - mesmerising and enjoyable. If Elvis had decided to make a studio recording of this song, in Nashville during June 1970 for example, would it have been any better than this performance which became the RCA master? Personally I have my doubts since to me this is beyond perfection and as such I must nail my colours to the mast and admit that this is my all time favourite Elvis recording. To create a musical masterpiece within the studio environment, Suspicious Minds for example, is one thing when you have a top rate producer (Chips Moman) a single minded determined artist (Elvis) and the best possible material and tools (the song and band) where you can take as many takes as necessary. To make a classic like this in one take in a live environment is something most singers can only aspire to. If there is one line to sum up this song (and Bridge Over Troubled Water from the same show) and Elvis Presley in August 1970 in particular it is this - Many can sing but only few can perform!! Released by B.J. Thomas earlier the same year this version shows Elvis at his very, very best as the vocal is relaxed yet powerful, both band and orchestra are virtually flawless. Elvis' singing of the word 'girl' at the end of the first verse is almost unbelievable! This version, from 11 August Dinner Show, was selected both for the movie and to open the original That’s The Way It Is 1970 album and due to public demand was released as a single in the UK reaching #6.

On Camera, back stag with all of the singers and others. waiting to come out to perform he was nervous about not remembering the words to that song. As he was singing it quietly another said, when you get to that part you’ve got it. It was a newer one they practice but it seems he had a block till a certain place in the song. Then he said at one point, maybe we can write the words on ... “and we didn’t hear that Part”, but it looked like he was pointing to the top of a guitar ??? He didn’t hide those things. He was genuine. They had so many songs to perform and so many performances to do when he was there. Like 2-3 months at a time, 2 shows a night. At one point it was 3 shows a night. Every performance was sold out.

Another time he said; we had 50 songs to learn for this so forgive us if we don’t get it right, but we’ll get it straight. Then he teased; we only learnt 5 of them, here’s one we “don’t” know. They nailed it.
