DR. KJ FOSTER , thank you for this . I truly understand for the first time in trying for 4 years , on alcohol I become insane !!! Thank you ; day 14 ! Kimberly
You are honest about your recovered addiction however, The traces of underlying deep manipulating behavior like in all addicts still resides in you as you manipulate people to comment for a possibility to win $50!!
I have 37 years of sobriety; I find that all 12 step programs are microcosms of society at large. No group in any part of society I have experienced, has been immune to a segment of that group being in the shadows. Navigating through these shadows is part of life in the world. I am very happy you found your comfort zone, but remember, we do not live in a well baby clinic, and every segment is vulnerable. I appreciate your perspective and thanks for sharing.
Yes, I agree. I've said this myself. It is a microcosm of society at large, yet you're going to find a high concentration of individuals with various levels of significant mental health disorders. This is where it differs from society at large, unless of course you live in an area where there is a high concentration of mental health issues, like Kensington Beach.
Thank you for this. I'm very new to this (27 days sober) I have a sponsor and step 2 seemed a little overwhelming but you explained it very clearly . Thanks again!!☺☺
I love how you connected rationalizing our alcoholic behavior and insanity/sanity. Often I think we only relate the insanity to the inability to stop drinking. I also agree some of this comes to us as we work 4-11. I am 4 years sober, 2 years off tobacco. Thank you for your service.
Thank YOU for watching and sharing your experience. Congrats again on your 4 years. I am approaching 14 and 13 for tobacco. I quit when I was 1 year sober from alcohol.
Hi Joey! I can appreciate how you feel, but think it would be different if that is all I talked about. My channel is about sobriety and other mental health issues. It is not a channel about AA. Appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts.
Thank you Thank you Thank you...I have been working on Step 2 and have been stuck for all of the reasons you spoke of. I have been in AA since 1995 and never understood the concepts of Step 2, I can now move on for more reasons than I can say here! Brava!!!!!!!
I was advised that it was okay to struggle but discovered the examples set by sober people in the book stated, 'We don't struggle, we relax and take it easy.' I am more cautious around those who believe they are recovery experts these days. After all, my life, and that of others, is at stake.
Outstanding lead in covering step 2! I’m so psyched to use much of your lead when I present step 2 at my home group this week. We have lots of newbies and I’m not always as articulate as I would like to be when sharing. This is awesome!!
You’re ignoring the second pertinent idea that probably no human power could restore you to sanity. That bring the case, the concept of a group of humans doing so is floored
Your interpretation of step 2 is great , simple , realy explains our shared dilemma..we are powerless ...our way did not, and never will work ...coming to the programme and making a beginning with a sponsor who is doing the 12 steps helps is to 'come too ' ..🤗
I had passed into a region from which there was no return on human aid alone. (Big Book p 25). I ask GOD to keep me away from a drink. Not people or a person. People could drive me to drink. God cannot drive me to drink. there is one who has all power that one is God may you find him now
@DRKJFOSTER All you are doing is going in circles. We become reliant on a higher power and meetings are for us to carry the message to a newcomer. Fellowship is a beautiful bonus we get from AA, not the purpose of AA
I think I have been relying too much on God and not the program for my recovery..I was actually struggling with this this morning.Thank you for the reminder. I also thought I wasnt insane when I read step 2 in the beginning.
Barry M from Australia. Very good, gave me a far better understanding on the 12 steps. We are a 12 step group in Hervey Bay Queensland Australia and the video's have given us clarified the steps. Thankyou Barry M
Thankyou for the video on step 2 I'm 2 years clean and have just got a sponcee and I'm human so don't follow the program therapy but I pray connect go to meetings and share my experience so this video has helped me loads took some notes and am realy looking forward to going through the work again Namaste 🙏😊
Thanks for help on this step 2. I looked you up for step 1 and because of that good info. I came to you for help with step 2 now. An I want to say thanks alot for your time. I found it helpful as well ... Have a great day/night
I have both books(AA/NA). Also, I am now more educated on my addiction now. I went 97 days and relapsed. I’m in a program and feeling better now that I know/understand more.
The group is very important the order of loving God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself isn't proof of loving God. It's perfectly okay for you to downplay God as anything you would like him to be. Anyone's who's interested please look up the serenity prayer in its entirety it will show you the initial concept. Please listen to that and not focus on somebody's opinion I'm glad for this woman that the group's power was greater than gods for her
Connection to a group Is great . Alternatively A power greater than you might just need to be outside a group too . We can't be surrounded by a group every day and every minute. I suggest whatever works on any given day to be a power greater than you might work . As time goes by and you spend more time in AA you will come to believe there is a power greater may you find it now & always keep it .. stay safe sober and sane 🙏
The first step is all of the steps. AA is for people who cannot stay stopped on their own willpower. So we have to change our design for living. If we don't fully emerse ourselves we're good for a while, but not permanently change our attitude and outlook on life and our alcoholic thinking will get us drunk again. Unmanageablity is only fixed by allowing a higher power to manage our lives. If you don't have a higher power try holding your breath for 1 hour. Can't do that? Me neither so I have a higher power that loves me enough to keep my breathing going without me even trying.
Hi there, Ibrahim. I don't know about you, but I had a huge problem with retention when I was first getting sober and I had to read things over and over again. I'm also a visual learner, so videos help me a lot to process information. Glad to know you found the video helpful.
570 days sober, but still got a lot out of that vid, thanks - insanty was where i went to on every big drinking session, seemed funny at the time but looking back, ridiculous behaviour.
Great video!...It is truly the power of others sharing time, wisdom and knowledge without judgement on how to overcome addiction. God exists and he/she has given us the power to seek help from our fellows. I am also grateful to the way you framed insanity, as drinking behaviours whilst intoxicated after crossing into addiction were definately socially unacceptable on my part so therefore insane!
Dear Ms Fostering, I tried to help my son to go for rehabilitation but he rejected,. I have fears when he contact me, so afraid he attack me , manipulating, and play all tricks to me I can't take it anymore what should I do to heal myself as a mother.
Hi Sharon. I'm so sorry to hear of what you are going through with your son. I would recommend attending a support group. There are many now for family members. Alanon, FamAnon and Smart Recovery are the most popular. They will help you to be strong.
Your video goes against AA traditions. Suggestion to you, dear one, speak to your sponsor or an old timer who is grounded in steps, traditions, and] PRINCIPLES. When I do these behaviors, I am reminded by my tribe "your heart may be in the right place Your ego may need to get a check-up" Much love to you.
Respectfully I disagree with your interpretation of a higher power being other humans in our AA group. I enjoyed your talk on step 10, and I thought I'd check out your talks on Steps 2 and 3. My comments are from The Big Book and the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions. AA is a Spiritual Solution. Your concept of a higher power being the group of other humans in AA, or any other humans, is misleading, and is not a Spiritual Solution. Your take is Psychology, and something other than Steps 2 and 3. Of course the group and other humans are there for us, and hopefully we are there for them. But that is not, and will never be a Spiritual Solution. And based on the diminishing results in AA, as it has morphed into group therapy, and not about working the 12 steps, Psychology is not effective. I like and respect everything about you, but I disagree with your take on what a higher power is, and how to apply Steps 2 and 3. I won't comment on how to do 2 and 3, as its all in writing in the Big Book. Thanks for allowing me to comment.
Hi Garrison - Thank you for sharing your thoughts, experience and opinion relative to the concept of a Higher Power. You have a right to your opinions and beliefs regarding spirituality. Beliefs are what makes spirituality so personal. Spirituality is comprised of beliefs, practices and experiences. I agree that the solution to addiction is a spiritual one, but it's not black and white, due to varied beliefs relative to spirituality. I believe that it is easier for people to develop their own concept of a Higher Power when I am not trying to impose my belief system on someone else. Everyone has a right to their own beliefs. I happen to be someone who believes that you don't even have to believe in God to get sober. What I am trying to convey in Step 2 is to help those who have had negative experiences with religion and have negative connotations associated with God or even the concept of a Higher Power. I do believe that two people coming together to help each other is the cornerstone of 12 Step recovery. One alcoholic helping another (ie Bill and Bob) and that relationship was more powerful than each of them trying to stay sober on their own. A group is even more powerful than one person or even two people. The fact that you disagree does not insult me one bit. Again, you have a right to your opinion. My only suggestion is not to try to impose it on others as their truth. I apologize if you felt I was doing this in my video as it was not my intent. I hope you have a blessed day.
This is not the true description of step 2 the power is not the group or the meetings the power doesn't come in step 2 steps 1.2.3 are not working steps they are accepting steps you dou only need willingness for these steps. How dare you say praying won't work the purpose of the 12vsteps is for you to find God call it what you want but it's God in every name
How dare I? I believe you misunderstand. My point is that if you are recovering from addiction (a brain disease that impacts your thinking) and you sit home and pray, all by yourself, your intuit thinking will be that of an insane person. God will not be God in that conversation. To just think that you can sit home and pray your addiction away is ludicrous in and of itself. And... it also sounds like you are someone who believes the God of YOUR understanding is the one and only God. Hmmm... that sounds nothing like an Open-Mind in HOW it works Honesty, OPEN-MINDEDNESS and Willingess nor does it sound anything like what the 12 Steps are about!! Dare, I? Yes, I dare say I will....it's my channel, my experience, and my opinion. And furthermore, I'm entitled to believe whatever I choose regarding the God of MY understanding. Please stop imposing what you believe about God onto others. Btw.. You're welcome to create your own channel, with your own videos, and espouse your my God is the only God propoganda. Be my guest. Let me know how that goes for you.
This person has never worked the steps and isn’t a member of AA 😂 please look up the Joe and Charlie tapes for Step 2 guidance if you’re a real alcoholic. This video is not for real alcoholics.
Please be very very careful about your message. Obliterating the power of God over and against the power of the people. Ps. The insanity is my stinking thinking when I am sober. It is not my state of mind when drinking
Your thinking is your mind, and you can't discount that substance use disorders are considered a brain disease because of they way it chemically impacts the brain, which results in distorted thinking. I need to rely of others to help begin the rewiring of my brain. Spirituality is not in and of itself religion and vice versa.
