Jan, Rosé, and Lagoona get sassy with Simon Cowell during their performance on America's Got Talent 💋 @stephanieschild @janjanjan @omgheyrose @lagoonabloonyc MERCH: mybestjudymerch.com/collectio...
@@guntherstewart8941 Same. I loved Jan on Drag Race and now Rosé is on there too and I really like her as well. But Jan's high notes here were just not the right pitch. It's just a fact. Doesn't mean you hate them, or love them... It's just the truth.
If he heard those high notes from someone male-presenting, he’d think it was an impressive range. Because they’re so femme, he hears it like a girl doing a falsetto-scream, which at that pitch would seem really off. Those exact tones are what built Adam Lambert’s career
EXACTLY. I mean my guy thought that Liam Payne, Niall Horon and Louis Tomlinson had good vocals and put them in One Direction.... LMAOO NO!! Honey listen back to those boys auditions THEY WERE SHIT. If these queens were out of drag and we're a societal standard of "hot boy band member" Simon would hire them on the SPOT. I can't BELIEVE he called Jan's highnote "screaming" - Jan's highnotes sound very similar to an artist called "Jungkook" from the boyband BTS - and I BET Simon WISHES he had half of that talent on his belt. Fuck him.
@@fey__3919 don't forget that he's the brain behind SPICE GIRLS, TAKE THAT AND BLUE (besides dozen of British groups) and every single career of Robbie Williams, Geri Halliwell and others. Maybe he hates drags because Ru never wanted him in her show
@@TizianaCimmino He's good at making bands popular, but it doesn't mean that any of those bands are actually good. Love a bit of spice girls but if we're looking at vocal talent - I think Stephanies child still beats them. At the end of the day, Spice Girls and Take That are just another lame pop group with a tiny bit of talent. Controversial opinion I know lol. I also think the same about BTS (tho some of the boys in that group do have a lot of vocal talent- only some tho haha). I still prefer bands who try to make it on their own/ have amazing vocals (like Little Mix)/ or make their own music majoritively by themselves. But anyway, my main point is, Simon has chosen alot of people in the past for looks and sellability, not talent.
What really is a shame is that they were on the show a very long time ago with absolutely no backup from the social media until they became contestants on drag race. We need to support the drag queens as a whole not just when they've appeared on drag race.
@SalCee Why do we need to support *anyone?* Her point is be supportive of all artists (drag queens in this scenario) even if they have no previous exposure, or a following of some sort. Support talent not their status. The tone of your comment is giving very homophobic vibes
EXACTLY. He's put through pretty little 22 year olds with *way* less talent, charisma & creativity than these girls. He simply can't see past the drag, it's so stupid.
@@blueribenaberry um all the bands he made happen actually have talent,I am impressed actually as alot of them haven't been in drama either while others has. It's not the drag hunny because he could careless. The reason the others agree is because there litterly scared of the hate people who support drags bring. I who support them tho feel like they was majorly off tune. Also if u noticed he does this to every band NO MATTER THERE SEXUALITY,LOOK,AUTHENTICY AND ETC. Because he is a professional
@@blueribenaberry It's not that he can't see past the drag, it's that he doesn't have any concept of how awesome, and culturally relevant drag is. And this guy is supposed to recognize talent and have the pulse of pop culture? He doesn't even realize that being mean isn't cool anymore either. Methinks this man is a little more than washed up.
@@lauringrace1389 lol ok? Not liking the act is one thing not liking that they’re in drag is another. Ones an opinion and one is bigoted. 👀. Plus no one said he didn’t have the right to dislike the act. Lol 😂 I feel this comment hit a personal nerve of yours.
@@lauringrace1389 he's missing out really because it's about having fun n the performance... But people are quite homophobic they won't see past the act... It's live entertainment not to be taken so seriously by bigots
Ima say this, as a fellow musician from a family of professionals, they are amazing. Moving and harmonising is fucking hard. And straight up. If these were straight appearing, not in drag, Simon would feel different. Was their performance perfect? No. But that’s live music baby
also tucked, corseted, in heels, with a wig on, makeup, and padded. they did singing in hard mode, extremely well, and still shit simon - not a trained classic musician, said it was "screaming" okay we see through that thin veil.
Lagoona: The Older Child that leads and is very direct and can command Rose: The Middle Child who sits back in silence and does her part with no issue. Jan: The Youngest Child who wants the spotlight and is very chatty/enthusiastic.
The way they sounded fucking amazing and complimented each other’s vocals and Simons was like “I couldn’t listen any longah to tha screimen” ms gurl, you put together 1D, you ever heard zayns high notes? Lmaoo
Not ms.girl 😭😭😭😭 didnt he put adam "uses high notes every time they fit in a song" lambert through american idol? Or am i remembering that wrong just like simon misremembered that "mixed" reaction lmao
This literally proves to me that Simon has little to none actual musical knowledge...that queen was literally singing an A flat 5. That’s really freakin impressive, and it didn’t even sound like “screaming”.
@@rydbthatsme it’s called a drag voice, they make and train their voice to be higher and squeakier and, in turn, sound more strained for the role. On the riff, however, it doesn’t even sound like that. It sounds like a typical male falsetto, just made a bit brighter and more nasal. I’m not even sure where you got off pitch, because clearly you don’t know what being on pitch means.
@@livr2783 Yes love this comment I thought there range was beautiful and that high note was just so velvety and decadent that it reminds me of a sweetened dark chocolate a beautiful balance of masculine and feminine energy mixed together
@@jessicaravenqueen768 that high-pitched note velvety?! Are you kidding me?! It was strange and hurt my ears. They weren't horrible but average isn't going to get you anywhere.
Because he's good at what he does and he knows what will sell. I would say the amount of success he is had kind of gives him the ability to judge. You don't have to be a talented artist to know when a "painting" is crap and you don't have to be a talented singer to know when someone is just average.
Simon is always uncomfortable and dismissive when there are any gay or homoerotic tones in the acts... Seen it sooo many times. Closet case, or uncomfortable with his bisexuality imo...
Why the gays always feels when someone doesn't like the talent (not the sexuality), they think that's homophobic, so the gays can't be judged fairly now?
@@gustipaundrasta2603 No, it's because Simon walked out of the auditorium when a male stripper/flute player was a contestant, and many other incidents - Simon IS homophobic.
@@gustipaundrasta2603 You don't know what you're talking about - I was raised in a homophobic environment, and I've had 53 years of experience with it. I also worked in the music industry - I'm extremely broad-minded, actually. Simon didn't need to drop an 'X' in the middle of a performance that everyone was enjoying. David Walliams, a judge on Britain's Got Talent, knows that Simon is homophobic, and likes to wind him up by being overly tactile, flirty and affectionate - Simon hates it. The fact that you are the only person to respond to my comment in a dismissive way shows that it is you that is narrow-minded. If a 'gay' act was untalented, I would be the first to say so. Stephanie's Child are well-prepared, talented and entertaining performers - the crowd loved them!
@@gustipaundrasta2603 He shows a pattern in his homophobic behaviour, he is most of the time the only one to or the first one to hit the button when non-heteronormative acts come on stage. And of course it is fine to have a preference or not to like something but when it always these kind of act that don't even get a chance of being liked its problematic.
Simon acting like a man hitting high notes has to sound exactly the same as a high soprano hitting them. The notes sit in different parts off the voice lmaooo
Looking at it strictly as a talent show..no one caring about who they are, how they're dressed and whether they're men of women they weren't that great of singers. Average voices and the off key high notes were bad. Don't sing notes you can't hit.
@@lasktdave Is it really a "talent show though"? I'd say it's more of an entertainment show, hence why sob stories always do great. A pianist that has been playing for twenty years and plays Liszt beautifully might be critiqued that it's "boring" while someone with a funny dance might go on to the next round...tbh it's never really been about talent and I for one am certainly entertained by this singing group of drag queens.
I literally cried. It’s so important that these queens bust out here and be so proud and strong 😭 and the audience SUPPORTED THEM! Thank you Stephanie’s Child
it sucks cause jan's high note was SO good, and you know simon just hit the buzzer out of spite. i say stephanie's child needs to comeback continuously until simon just gives in.
@@Therebesquare their reply is in reference with the comment that said "when simon comes out of the closet" implying they think he MIGHT be gay hence internalized homophobia is mentioned
@@josepedrovicente1478 does he? He talked down on Billie Eilish , Tori Kelly, Shaheen Jafargholi, and more, so.. sis maybe he doesn’t know what he’s doing.
I like the performance but DISLIKE it after jan screaming!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Simon wont buzz if jan didn’t scream 😒 that screaming is like when i saw flying cockroach 🤣🤣🤣
Jan is an incredibly talented vocalist. Simon Cowell doesn't understand what a belt sounds like from a high tenor. It has very strong vibrato and is quite bright and is an extraordinary sound. Not every high note needs to be operatic.
@@notconvinced2204 Well one of them is currently a frontrunner on a reality-tv show. One of them is loved by the drag fandom and the other is still doing her thing, so yeah they're not untalented.
Well it's obvious that they weren't judged fairly, he didn't gave any feedback for his reasoning. You can't just say that the vocals where bad when they clearly weren't
@@gustipaundrasta2603 ?... they were saying how simon critiqued SC without giving reasoning behind his words, how is that having a very low singer taste??
It’s clear that Simon was being passive aggressive and specifically targeting them with the “X” with this audition because they questioned his authority and frankly, ignorance. It’s showing slight homophobia and extreme toxic masculine behavior. It’s not cute!
I agree with everything you've said except the homophobia part. It's a heavily produced show and it was most likely scripted for him to press the buzzer no matter what - these types of shows should always be taken with a pinch of salt. Plus, he's equally rude to any act regardless of sexuality, gender or race, so I don't see the homophobia here.
why is no one talking abt the competitors trying to shade them for “not listening to simon” and that it didn’t pay off like sis there are other ways of getting airtime go flip a table 3:51
Simon’s reaction parallels another act that had men dancing in high heels. He was the only one of the judges that didn’t like them, if I remember correctly.
" He's gonna get it one day." LOL!!! Love them so much. they are such pretty talented queens. When I saw Rose~ on Drag race I was so happy! She's my fave to win!
This proves that these shows are scripted/fake because even people who are tone deaf can hear that they are talented. Even if you take away the fact that they’re drag queens, talented voices are still talented voices. Those harmonies were tight!
I wish people would remember that music is very subjective. And I include Simon Cowell in that as a person. I'm hard of hearing and have chronic pain in my left ear so that certain high frequencies are physically uncomfortable to me. There are some sounds and songs other people like that are painful for me to listen to. So I can't, or won't, fault anyone else for not liking their performance. I don't know how the sonic waves feel going into their ears or how their brains interpret the sounds. That's why it's so important for a supposed "mentor" like Cowell to explain why he does or doesn't like a particular vocal performance. Does it hurt his ears, is it not his personal style, does he hear specific technical things that could be improved...? But no, his job is to be snarky in order to get a reaction from people, because more views and comments and engagement means more ad revenue. And I'm feeding the beast by adding my comment to the pile.
I have perfect pitch. Their harmonies WERE tight and Simon was just a jerk! I will say the high notes at first felt a little not as LOUD as it could be! Screaming my butt! They were so cool and frickin’ ROCKING THE STAGE.
I do think that there was some over-singing which increases the pointedness of the vocal tone. There was a little too much support from the throat and a bit of overall tightness, BUT it was in tune and the harmonies were good. The blatant negation and dismissiveness is just petty and homophobic. Why not give them the constructive criticism? If they bring the volume down a little and make the sound slightly rounder, it would sound more controlled and remove the edge to their higher registers. Lightening their sound a bit, their harmonies and resonance would sound fuller. It's like using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut.
yess thank you!!! youre actually being constructively critical!!! so many people in the comments are just saying theyre bad because they weren’t exactly perfect but like. so many famous singers that they love certainly aren’t perfect either and it’s frustrating for them to just say “oh because they’re men, they’re just not good at singing those note” which is wrong because like you said, they were on tune, they tone just wasn’t perfect. If this was a group of straight men or women singing this, Simon wouldn’t have picked them out for that and the fact that he did this because they’re drag queens is blatantly homophobic and petty. There are comments saying that Jan’s vocalisation was piercing but the vocals on the original track are as well, the only difference is that one is tightened up in a studio and one is live and sung by a drag queen.
Reality competitions by and large just want attention and money. In this case, Simon could have provided constructive criticism, like you did. The moment gets put on RU-vid and the video gets an average number of comments. But the way it happened, this video blows up with engagement. People arguing in the comments about whether they can sing or not, whether Simon Cowell is homophobic or not... Like outrage marketing. Do something shitty to intentionally provoke a negative response. All attention is good attention when more views = ad revenue.
Honestly I thought it was a pretty sickening performance, but the nerves/pressure of the situation made their energy a little out of control. It happens. They're still fierce performers and the fact that they can even sing live like this is impressive, periodt. The person running through the comment section talking about how bad they sound is clearly a Simon Cowell alt account.
I really don't agree. When a man is singing a note that high that's usually how it's going to sound. Especially when their natural voice isn't that high. Jan has a wide vocal range but he isn't an actual woman so it's not going to sound like an actual woman. Technique can only change that so much.
I don't know how so many people have watched this but haven't subscribed. I did within the first minute of the video. These girls have talent, sass, and style. Keep it up ladies.
You are amazing!! I've just came across this video in my feed, and probably because I love Drag Queens, and I follow many of them, and I'm fortunate enough, to call many of them friends!!! Love from London, England. ❤❤❤
That one girl “looks like they didn’t listen to Simon and looks like it didn’t pay off.” Lmao maybe with him but everyone else said yes so not really 😂
Unless this was edited for TV, those harmonies were INSANELY IMPRESSIVE! That shit is not easy to do especially live on a big stage with (albeit limited) choreo
I used to watch this when i was nine and i realized like 3 months ago ITS JANEGFYUYEWF AND NOW ROSE IS ON DRAG RACE AND I SWEAR IF LAGOONA ISNT ON SEASON 14 I WILL SUE
I think we need to start calling out Simons bias. He tends to only like white straight all-american and nothing else outside that box. We need to start calling him out on that.
Wait but that’s wrong? He’s golden buzzers people of all ethnicities lol White, Asian, Black, you name it. He’s never ignored raw talent so at least don’t try to lie. Why does everyone think the “white straight all-American” gets everything when they don’t? It’s not even a race thing, why are there always people like you bringing the color of one’s skin into everything lol
HES NOT EVEN AMERICAN LMAO! I highly doubt that this comment is remotely accurate. You are just upset that he buzzed drag queens, when he was vibing the entire time until Jan strained to reach the not that was never hit! Honestly, I had the same reaction... and the way they were dressed has nothing to do with the reality of that part of the performance. People are listening to music too loud with their headphones and are suffering from hearing loss, if they think that note sounded good lol.
