Carmelo Anthony joins Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless on First Take in 2012, to talk about Jeremy Lin, the New York Knicks' hopes that season, and whether Carmelo Anthony thinks he's a top-five player in the NBA.
He definitely took the bait. They knew there was some behind-the-scenes friction with Melo coming back during Linsanity and and he gave them enough to cook it up some more.
On the court YES, as a human being NO. He seems to be loved by his peers and has a good vibe as a person. But its well documented he was jealous of Lins success not happy for him, then there is the Billups truth about happy to lose if he scored 30, unhappy with 20pts and a win, plus the bench thing in OKC. Selfishness on the court has always been the problem.
He was selfish, which is good. You're in the NBA in your prime for a limited number of years. Different people value different things. There is nothing wrong with getting your money.
@@victorpetrescu6586The focus on him being selfish is for people who can't understand why no team wants him on their roster at the moment. No one said there's anything wrong with him getting his money. The argument could be made if he was "team first" he could still be getting it, honestly.
@@rashb3994 I get that and Melo gets that. You sleep in the bed you make. All I'm saying is that some people are trying to shame Melo for wanting his money first in his career. That's how almost any other career in any other field works. He obviously could have been more cooperative in the past and a harder worker. But, it is what it is now
Stephen a has been in the game for a while I just learned that this week lol I thought he just became popular these past 5 years but hes been around for 10+years
@@ozkan576 Thank you!!! This narrative he never had enough help is ridiculous. Not only did he not join the perfect fit at the time Chicago, but he skipped joining Wade and James. Bosh was their back up option. In retrospect even on a super team he wouldn't of sacrificed or been willing to do the little things to win a chip. He admitted to being selfish in his prime sort of, when Chauncy Billups told the truth about him.
rash b facts. People are so quick to blame the teams he played on. Billups and George Karl and numerous others have always said “Melo didn’t care about winning or losing, he just wanted to get his numbers no matter what”. Don’t know how or why people continue to give Melo excuses after all these years.......
@@rashb3994 and you'd be the same guy killing him for joining that Heat team. It's hypocritical how you define Melo's team vs how you define his contemporaries teams. Wait remind me all of Melo's top talents he's played with. Melo, Iverson (out of prime), Billups (out of prime), JR (inconsistent), Camby (inconsistent)... I mean help me out.
Carmelo did an amazing job handling media, shots taken at him by Phil Jackson, doubts by fans over the years. He never got mad or cocky, he knows who he is.
Stephen a is good but him and these other clown" analysts" need to do more homework on there topics...I'm sick of hearing there assumptions..we need the facts...
He should have gone to DC and played with John Wall. Or No, with Paul. All he needed was a superstar point guard who could put the ball in his hands. His con to a team was always distribution.
@@youngf.l.y.1467 yes but he struggle the first half of the year with not knowing the plays and other stuff wen the new coach came in it changed everything
@imcelestial1417 u don't remember he looked like his career was going to take off again with the Nets and at the age of 28 just entering his prime. Then blew out his knee in the first game of a season and was never the same.
People say today Kobe was never the best player in the league when you can simply just watch clips like this to see what the consensus was at the time.
@@jujuonthatqueef5043? Kobe was recognized as the greatest player in the league from 03-13. This video came out in 12’. It didn’t last much longer cause he tore his achillies in 2013 dude
@@daboyy6537 a decade is being a bit generous. It was pretty obvious by the late 2000’s lebron was a better talent he just hadn’t secured the hardware yet
@@jujuonthatqueef5043 can I link you a 60 minutes interview Lebron James himself did in 2009 where he said Kobe was the best player in the league. Right after they asked him if Kobe was better than him and he agreed? Late 2000s if I’m not mistaken also was when Kobe one his MVP(08’) then back to back finals MVPs
@@daboyy6537LeBron was only the MVP but not the best in 09 and 10 thats just saying Malone is the best in the league because he was the MVP in the 97 it doesnt work that way Kobe became the best in 2003 until 2011
Mr Dewayne Your stupid to say that! Melo led his team to WCF. Then he came to Knicks (bigger market). Every year he was a top scorer in nba. Melo was definitely Superstar that’s why his name is always in the media.
Rob Smith he couldn’t play defense, his offensive game was just holding the ball for 23 sec and shooting long ranged inefficient 2s and the 2 times he went to the cf he had A veteran guard who could lead the team( Chauncey and Jason)
For those who weren’t old enough back then to remember the NBA at that time. The top 5 players in the league at the time in no particular order were Lebron, Kobe, Dwight, Cp3, KD
the thing about it is melo always been 100 with the media and thats great for tv…. not so great for teamates and coaches having to follow up and comment on what he says
Man, it's sad to see some guy that works at his desk, tell an NBA player why he ain't that good smh. Melo ain't what he used to be, but I want him to believe he is good atleast. You can't be great and believe that you ain't a superstar.
The only way u can get better is through criticism, what may seem perfect for you may not be perfect for others. His an analyst. Its his job to give constructive criticism. And Stephen A wasn't wrong.
This When 1st take was at it's best With a good Host and SAS and Skip but I Live how real they being with Melo here and uts crazy to look at narrative created that Melo Is selfish and in this interview he humble asf not cocky I miss these 1st Take days
I love how Stephen A says Carmelo isn’t a superstar or a top 5 player because he doesn’t get out the 1st round enough...but when it comes to Anthony Davis Stephen A praised him as a top 5 player every year, even though he only made the playoffs like 2 times with the Pelicans.
@@enterpassword3313The only reason AD has a chip is because of James. AD landed on the right team. Or you think he would have won a chip with the Pelicans? Lol
@@KeithEwell-vc3hg hes just as good offensively, arguably better, and hes much better defensively... so how is ad not better??? His only real flaw is that hes been injured
Sep 2019 Carmelo if allowed by a Coach right now to do what he does can lead a Team to the Chip. No Man on Earth has ever stopped Carmelo from scoring.
Playah Dub lebron has more career points than Melo, is he a better “scorer” than Melo? No, but he’s a better player............so what’s your point? Scoring points don’t make you a superstar. Melo was a star, not a superstar. And I’m a Melo fan
I love this conversation but I’m genuinely curious, what defines a superstar? Was Melo not considered one because of his lack of rings? T-Mac and Gilbert Arenas were definitely superstars but never won
Imo Melo is a superstar be a he had signature shoes, his jersey was a popular thing in his prime, he also was a well known Nba player so I’d say if you can fit these criterias you are a Super ⭐️
