Stephen A. on Damar Hamlin | SC with SVP 

as somebody who works in the emergency room and literally helps intubate patients following STEMIs and cardiac arrests, his “vitals” are not normal. He’s been intubated to protect his airway and mechanically assist him to breathe, he is in critical condition. Pulses can be lost very quickly in this sort of scenario, I’ve literally watched the same patient code (pulseless) MULTIPLE times within an hour. I’m not saying this to be negative by the way, just pointing out that this is a very fragile and critical situation. Couple things going In his favor: He’s 24, CPR was started immediately and that is HUGE for survival, pulses came back quickly, and I would assume otherwise healthy. It’s really sad to see moments like this, I see it all too often at work, but I can assure you those healthcare workers in the ER are the best of the best. This is what we do. He is in good hands, I wish the young man well.

Hopefully he recovers I mean fully recovers. 3 minutes with no oxygen is scary. Praying for young man and his family

This happened to Danish soccer player who had a heart attack on the field but has made an amazing comeback and is playing at top level again. I hope the same story happens to Hamlin. My prayers are for him and his family at this time

What scares me the most is that fact that I had a couple of heart attacks and flatlined on the "Cath Lab" table at the end of September of this year (ended up with 5 total stints). This hits incredibly hard for me cause I can imagine what is going on with Hamlin's family and I can imagine what is going on through Hamlin's mind, if they have him conscious, the utter fear, confusion, the flood of emotions. My thoughts are with him and his family and the only advice I can give fans, GIVE HIM AND HIS FAMILY SPACE. hold off on sending cards, DO NOT show up at the hospital or their home to wish him well. Right now just keep him in your thoughts and prayers and let him and his family deal with this. This is a VERY nerve wracking time for him and his family, please Please PLEASE respect that. Get well soon Hamlin and I truly hope this wont end your career, you are much too young to be dealing with this and you still got your whole life in front of you. Speedy Recovery!!! Just remember that physical recovery is only 10% of it, the other 90% is mental on a whole lot of different levels. My only advice to him and his family for dealing with this is try as hard as you can to have as positive of an attitude you can. It really helped me and mine deal with the fear of the situation, I really hope it helps you and yours.

As a Tennessee native my heart and prayers go to his teammates on both sides coaching staff medical personnel his precious momma who was there his friends and family back in his home state. When collapsed and his arms fell to his side, I knew it was cardiac arrest. I pray that he fully recovers.

I'm 40 and have watched the NFL for at least 30 years. We take for granted how physically hard-working and punishing the football job is. Broken bones, pain, surgeries, etc. Many of the guys have life lasting effects from the sport. Unfortunately this looks like a 1 out of a million freak injury/accident.

The NFL will never admit that another player has died on the field from a hit, no matter what the people who were there witnessed. Status report late Monday night from the hospital is that his vital signs have returned, at least for now. So now the league can say he was alive for awhile, even if on life support. NFL owners hate bad publicity, and some fans will be turned off by this, at least for awhile. It will be talked about for years to come. Owners have their billions to protect. If he died on the field, no one will ever admit it unless a medical person who was involved goes rogue and spills the beans, but don't expect that to happen. Like the owners, they know which side their bread is buttered on. He did NOT, I repeat, did NOT die on the field, no matter what. Got it?

Only seen something like this a couple times and it was in soccer. I'm glad they got medical attention to him immediately, because those soccer players passed away, and they didn't get the immediate medical attention. Really want this kid to pull through, even if he never plays the game again

Happened in Euro last year with Christian Erikson, also happened some 20 years ago when Marc-Vivien Foé collapsed and died during a Confederation Cup game. Unfortunately sometimes even best of doctors and medicine can't detect somethings.

I think the difference is you actually SAW the medical staff performing CPR on the field. I do not blame them for not wanting to continue. They KNEW he was, and the medical staff were fighting for his life. Sudden impact cardiac arrest is no joke, saw it happen at a softball game. Line drive hit guy missed getting his glove over far enough and the ball hit him square in his chest. Herd him yell out F@#$ that hurt...went to pick up the ball and just fell forward and collapse. Luckily for him there were three EMT's playing with us that ran over and started CPR almost immediately. He recovered fully after a few months and I hope that this young man does too!

Could it be related to the jab he was just vaccinated 12.26.22 either way praying for his full recovery this is sad and it’s happening to athletes all around the world.

As a soccer fan in addition to football, this unfortunately reminds me of what happened to Christian Eriksen at the Euros last summer. Like with that, it was absolutely scary to see this in real time & hope Damar Hamlin can fully recover from this.

I don't think they were monsters. They were waiting to get a thumbs up from the hospital saying he was stable. If they got good news the game could have continued.

Very sad to see this. A young life hangs in the balance. Can't imagine the pain his family is going through. Can't imagine this happening to someone I love. I hope people wake up soon. Nobody deserves what happened to him. Everyone should be mad right now.

The Bills suffered a similar critical injury on a televised night game earlier this season. That presumably would have put them on alert, not wasting a single second in restoring breathing and a pulse to any victim in shock. Calling the game off should put all sports on notice. Though less likely, a similar injury could happen in an NBA game--a running player's shoulder slamming into the chest of a defender.

If the league told the players the get ready to play again, someone needs to be fired. Whether it was a ref, or someone in NY, they've gotta go. A man received CPR for 9 minutes. How on earth could you expect them to resume playing after seeing such a frightening event.

As tragic as something like this happening to one person, think of it this way, maybe this was a way for God to grab the Nations attention and literally Pull Millions of people into prayer all in the same night! At the start of a new year. Hope he's ok . But even more beautiful to see God grab our attention sadly even through moments like this.
