Honestly, you can't blame steph for the 3 point Renaissance. I blame these GMs thinking they can copy the warriors playbook and thinking they have a steph curry on their team. Like steph and Klay are the exception, not the rule
Steph’s 3s take away from how good of a basketball team the warriors are. Yes they shoot 3s but the teams they had knew how to play basketball. Especially that 2015 team everybody on that team could score in a different way. Idk why GMs didn’t understand that
fax. and it hurts teams in the long run when they sign 3-pt "marksmen" for way too much money just because they had a few heat checks during a playoff series (i.e. Duncan Robinson, Davis Bertans, Ian Clark, etc.)
the warriors were literally the upgraded version of the 2002 kings: better shooting, better defense, and somehow even better passing. i blame daryl morey's pompous ass for spreading the disease that is analytics as if it were the saving grace of the league
@@t-god2439 the biggest thing about GSW is their teamwork and trust in each other. Even though Steph is undoubtedly the one that makes them go, the warriors have never fallen into the habit of running heliocentric offensive schemes predicated on their star player. They've had a culture that's spanned many different rosters with similar levels of success. People go there and become a part of a well oiled machine GSW is literally all the good things about the Spurs, but without feeling like you need to trade your soul to be a part of them. In fact, they nurture your ability to have fun WHILE playing good quality basketball
True but I’m saying that compared to mahomes you can’t say Patrick has changed the game of football. Rodgers has put on almost the same level of skills on display before mahomes is just winning along with it and Rodgers is not
Solz... Mad Dog is who you will become in the future if you don't let go of all this newfound hate in your heart. We love you, Solz. We do not want this for you, sir. Stop the BAG hate, get help (Michael Jordan's voice)
Mad Dog is worse than Skipp because his points are weak and unpopular. At least Skipp has the common sense (most of the time) to make his positions relatable to some people. Mad Dog's positions are weak, outdated, and only defensible in his mind.
If Matt Dog was gonna pull the “ well you weren’t old enough to watch x player play.” JJ should’ve pulled the “ well you were never an nba player” card
Larry Bird came into a league that just introduced the 3 point line cmon. Based off the “math” JR Smith, Jason Terry, Wes Matthews, Mike Conley etc. are better shooters. Give some context to the era 🤦♂️
The reality is that he did what he did, we dont rank players based on hypotheticals. Yes, a lot of players today are better shooters than Larry Bird, thats because today only the best shooters make it into the league and still there are some players like Klay, Ray Allen, Joe Harrys, Kyle Korver, etc that are in another level, and you still have players like Steve Kerr or Reggie Miller that are from the late 80s that are far better shooters than Bird with a higher volume.
Larry Bird on his 13 year career averaged 5 FTA a game. In 3 of those years he averaged 6 FTA Steph Curry on year 14 has averaged 4.3 FTA a game and only one time did he average atleast 6 FTA a game. In a era where the game is so much more quick paced and they take more shots than ever. But shit Steph is the one who lived at the free throw line 😂
@@uhok6712 Larry didn't even shoot more tf? Even if you cut Curry's career by 2 years to even it with Bird, Curry still shot the ball more than Bird. And Curry will definitely shoot off ball and can catch and shoot, he's also one of the greatest of all time at creating his own shot. Just say you don't watch Curry games.
@@dothog1401 solid crying about it. Larry created much more off the dribble than Steph. Has basketball gotten more competitive over time? Yes, and that makes sense when you have players like bird to teach the new players how to be better than he was. Curry played 30-40 years after bird, he should be better. And yeah bro I’ve never seen a curry game, you’re soo right, definitely haven’t watched any of the finals in the past decade.
Me personally I think watching a trillion free throws is worse than the 3 point chucking to me at least it's a shot. I really enjoyed earlier last year when they stopped calling everything as much
This is actually mad dogs best argument I’ve heard. Obviously it’s still an L because mad dog is an L, but it makes sense. Too many threes take away from the rest of the game. However, still a massive L
But is that because of players trying to be Steph or strategic adjustments of different teams and evolution of the game. Stretch bigs isn’t a result to Curry or the Warriors. Corner specialist isn’t a result of Curry or the Warriors. The Rockets have more to do with corner specialist and maximizing floor spacing than the Warriors did imo. The Warriors one of the last few teams left playing with 2 non shooting bigs. Only guard I see really moving off ball like Steph is maybe DG. Guards be trying to be more like Harden than Steph imo. As a Cavs fan I do not like the Warriors or Steph but I feel like people overly use them as poster child’s of todays game when I feel like Stephen A was right Mike, Harden and the Rockets have more to do with the play style of a lot of teams today and over reliance on the on 3s, Bron too to some degree
Get out your feelings. The NBA product is watered way down by the awful 3 point jacking. And yes, guys like Westbrick are pulling up bc they saw Steph do it (mainly but not all on Steph)
@@KaineTremaine Westbrook don’t even shoot 3s like that😂 idk why fans be acting like Steph invented the 3 or something. Dame came into the league shooting 6+ 3s. The game was already going towards that. The implementation of zone defense and the evolution of different defensive schemes naturally created the need for more and more 3 pt shooting and floor spacing. I remember watching the Spurs vs the Heat and how the Spurs ran them boys out off the court with 3s before people were even thinking about Curry. Bosh was not out there shooting 3s because of no damn Steph Curry. Curry’s off ball movement was game changing though but again most guards not moving off ball like Curry. They iso heavy step back tween 3s like Harden. Curry has definitely influenced the league but people making it seem like it was all him and everyone trying to play like him is a massive stretch imo. The game was already going towards it
@@KaineTremaine I think Harden and Mike had more to do with it than Steph imo. Teams do more Harden Rockets play style than Curry Warriors. The increase of ball dominant volume scorers has been overlooked too. You have guys like Luka, Trae and Harden that will dribble the air out of the ball and make everyone else spot up shooters or a lob threat. Curry and the Warriors were not doing that
Because the things mahomes does doesn't take hours upon hours of practice like curry you can initiate curry somewhat but the crazy shit mahomes does is hardwired into his brain.
Good basketball is good basketball. Whether it's shooting a lot of threes or running the offense through a big man. Either way can be boring if the teams that are doing it aren't playing good basketball
How often are the NBA games good anymore? 15-20 point lead swings are the new normal. Final results probably more lopsided than ever. - It's literally the opposite of "good basketball". This is where the League Office needs to make corrections. Or fire Adam Silver, then make corrections
I think it’s bad when they’re missing all of those three pointers. When the Rockets missed 27 of them in a row, WHEN DO YOU STOP CHUCKING THEM?!?!?!? If you’re hot, you’re hot but it is ridiculous watching teams running back and forth making brick houses. But it’s all up to coaches tbh
bro said “what you do want? the nba to go back to layups and mid ranges” … why didn’t he say dunks? Cuz he’s prolly a Steph curry lover and Steph can’t dunk… dunking blow the nba up .. not 3 pointers. Masculinity is the reason the NBA is the greatest league. Not femininity. Dunks will always mean more than jump shots
SOLZ, you getting big. As a concerned fan, you need to watch your diet and exercise more. I’m not trying to be mean and I won’t mention it again, but I’m getting up there myself and I’ve decided to cut out many carbs and do at least 15 minutes of cardio a day. There is NO EXCUSE. Blessings 🙏
😂😂😂😂everyone before curry wanted to do what he came in and did they wanted to be the one to do what he did if he ain't make threes more important sum one was going to😂😂😂
Here's the difference between the 2010 Finals example Solz used and todays shooting. The reason the shooting was like it was in the NBA Finals in 2010 was because there was physical on-ball defense being played. Guys were missing shots not because of bad shot choice or them sucking, it was because both teams were playing great defense. Shooting today for the most part sucks not because of the defense but because guys are just chucking up shots more times than not. If youre missing shots but I see the reason is because of great defense being played I'm more engaged than if I just see you missing when no one is near you or the defense is weak
Wait what? Are you trying to make an intelligent point with context? You better get your blinders on and start hyping this modern small ball, 3 point jacking Era.
2010 finals game 7 was a close game down to the last few possessions which made it more exciting to watch. Not 34 missed 3s in a blow out where you essentially could turn the game off at the end of the 3rd cause the game’s essentially over
That's why I call mad dog the ESPN Skip Bayless meaning he the new Skip, they 'analyze' basketball from a nostalgia lens, their analysis is more based on moments and highlights they have of the game and ignore all logic and common sense argument and apparently JJ has zero patience for bs lol
Through no fault of his own Steph Curry's three-point revolution has led to a league making the 3-point shot as boring as the skyhook by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. I'm rooting for Victor to change that
I hate that we can never put anything into context. Obviously we rank players relative to their era. Based on the argument of math people like devin Basel is a better 3 point shooter than bird. I hate this argument because context doesn’t matter. You are basically saying every modern player is better than every older player. If the older players were born with the same knowledge as the younger player ls then they would be better simple as that but based on the arguments jayson Tatum is better than MJ. Right bsolz?
The thing is you cant say a player is greater based on hypotheticals, we rank players based on what they actually did and reality is if you pick 10 of the greatest 3 point shooters of all time all of them took more attempts than Bird and were more efficient. Look Steve Kerr or Reggie Miller, sure in their era 3 pointers were not that important but they were more efficient and did it for almost twice as long as Bird.
@@sergeistalin7916 again though based on the numbers neither one of those guys can be top 10 3 point shooters of all time because Kerr didn’t have the volume and Reggie shot below 40 percent. If we base everything on numbers the 10 greatest shooters are all from the modern era. That is why we add context and that’s why it is important to add context.
@@drakemontes4624 Kerr doesn have a lot more attempts, but he was shooting over 50% from field for entire seasons. Reggie Miller had twice as many attempts as Bird shooting 40% consistenly for almost 8 seasons. The point is that even players closer to Birds era have much better arguments as 3 point shooters.
37% from 3 is great for an era that people didn't practice them. Yall sound like biased haters.. Also yall claim Curry is fouled every play is a lie, what doesn't get called is the 100 illegal screens Curry runs behind every game that never get called. Yall some Curry fanboys lol..
Man any time someone speaks up about how they think Steph and the shift in 3 point shooting harms the NBA, people like getting all empiric about it. How many 3 points a night is too much? What kinda shots do we want to see, midranges/jumpers? Man I don't know, but I just don't like seeing Curry's style of ball. That's all it is!
Yea it's trash watching extra amounts of bricks piling up.. obviously Steph not the coach of 30 teams, but you know Westbrick envision Steph every time he pulls up lol
@@KaineTremaine dude now you brought Westbrook up, how did we get to a point where people value triple doubles less instead of celebrating his season where he averaged a triple double?
@Ramiel There is no "value" in a triple double. It's a novelty. If I put up 9 rebounds, 9 assists, 9 steals, 9 blocks plus 20 points. ☝🏽 doesn't even qualify for a double double.
Who would you is the top 5. Me personally I think you have to have Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Ray Allen, and Damian Lillard at those spots. But to be fair I don’t know the exact stats for Dame so I will say that 4 and 5 spot is something that can be debated a bit. I personally would pick KD at 5th but that’s just me
Nah what ruined the NBA is these new age NBA fans, media/youtubers, and this soft ass NBA culture. When I watch the NBA these days, it doesn't feel like I'm watching grown men, it feels like I'm watching a bunch of overgrown high schoolers in both play style and attitude. And the fans/media don't make talking about the NBA any fun, NBA social media is probably the worst among all the popular sports. It's almost as bad as Anime social media.
I think the only difference from the old and new fans is .. the old fans love the game and never cared of stats... new or younger fan love the game and stats. So the fight starts when you bring up stats. The older fan have seen both the old and new nba players live still not caring of stats. It's the stats that make all fans of the game fight.. just talk about the game leave the stats out.. the eye test they call it. Use that. Then all is even on both sides... or stop caring what the next guy thinks lol it's YOUR OPINION, YOUR WHAT IF ? Bird is in my top 5 for 3 pts shooting and I don't care what people say. It's MY list LMAO 🤣 not your right. Fans of sports can be crazy.
Madd Dog is the best thing that's happened to "sports debate shows" probably ever. Y'all clearly don't know what you don't know.. NBA is damn near unwatchable due to all the goofy 3-point jacking.
Peja Stojakovic, Kyle Korver, Steve Kerr, JJ Reddick, Klay Thompson, Mike Miller....these are just few players that were better 3pt shooters than Bird, and they weren't even the 1st option on the team...
They blaming bron for the current dunk contests. They blaming steph curry for people shooting 3s. Its just low iq analysis all around. Sad what NBA media has become. Narrative hunting lazy ass dialogue from the people who are supposed to promote the game.
I can't say like Solz that watching more 3s is boring. When you watch Warriors home games (in the palace of 3s built by the splash brothers) fans still get excited when the team hits one. Hell they get louder when Klay hits more than 8. Past 3 games Klay drowned teams in 3s and the fans got up off they seats. Maybe we're just the outlier in NBA fandom.
Lmao why do ppl keep falling for this efficiency argument that's not even right 🤣. 33% on 100 threes is 99 points. 50% on twos is 100 points. Plus you get the chance at free throw and offensive rebounds.
calling Mahomes potentially the best youve ever seen is the same reactionary attitude of people who proclaimed Aaron Rodgers the goat 1 super bowl win into his career. And as players they have a similar blueprint. But best or greatest is not a skills argument, its a feats argument. and we saw how rodgers career has ended up, with a horde of empty mvps and no playoff success to speak of besides one ring in the earliest era of his career. Mahomes as it stands now is on the same level as an aaron rodgers or a dan marino, a skilled thrower with some early playoff success. do you know how many people fit that classification in NFL history? hundreds. Hell, even Mark Sanchez fits that description. To be the greatest he'll need to sustain the level of success we saw in his initial years going forward, and this season has been a sign that's not likely to happen, as well as surpass the people at the top of that list by the end of it. He's not even gotten to the Montana level yet, let alone the Olympian heights Brady has reached.
It’s not his fault he’s so great at shooting 3s but Steph has absolutely changed the game for the worse. I deadass think the 3pt shot should be taken away from the game completely cus this shit is wild boring. I also disagree that when the game was ran through bigs in the post the league was boring. Centers banging in the post is the most satisfying (pause) buckets I ever seen. I’ll never forget Ewing backing down Alonzo Mourning & dunking on him that shit was warfare!
I think if you just look at how many GS fans, merch, and social media accounts that spawned out of thin air from 2015 to 2017, you'll have your answer.
Curry has a career average of 4,+ for free throws folks, this is the guy as JJ has said get held up and battered all game, im talking on and off the ball.... Harden averages 10+ free through and doesnt experience the contact Curry gets every game lol... the it was more physical bullshit media and old player say all the time is shit out the game and it rarely happened but they swear every game was malice in the palace lol... dont get fooled folks it wasnt physical as they make it out to be, the only difference is hand checking was allowed, but players still do it today off technicality if you didnt know... Hand checking means having your open hand in contact with the player with the ball but not obstructing the shooting hand, players today do it but having the back of hand or forearm in contact with the player... also defence got better cause of zone defense which wasnt allowed back in the day which allows every player to defend every player unlike back in the day when you passed your man you had free clearance to an open shot unless you pass the free throw line... why do you think most mid range shots were taken in that curve area above the FT line??
Nah it’s def different now . Too many big men shooting 3s it’s not as competitive anymore and all those ISO players be making it seem like their just out for stats . Theirs no balance anymore in the game at all , even the teams , out of 26 they have like 12 that have bomb squads and all the other just one superstar or washed up scrubs shit been way off if u haven’t noticed . Most players go wherever pays them the big bucks some team up and chase after rings . Some shoot and try to be flashy and just pose for the cameras .
His Mahomes argument is that everyone is looking for or trying to be the next Mahomes. Even though they don't have his talent. Look at Zack Wilson being drafted #2.
Mad dogg Russo is everything that’s wrong with “sports analysts”. He plays into the tropes of the boomer culture and tried to ride that line of what is and isn’t PC to evoke emotion. He’s their answer to losing skip.
Russo is off a bean lmao. Josh Allen is bigger and runs MUCH better than Mahomes. He doesn't have the arm talent of Mahomes, but he's definitely up there with him
