True story. I met him back in I998. Wonderful man and very down to earth. We shook hands. For the next three years I had nothing but good luck. I'll never forget that. Not sure if he touched me in some way kind of like John Coffey but it's true. Thank you Stephen. You're a fantastic and talented author and an awesome guy. Hope you continue writing for a long time.
Was in Bangor back in August on my way to hike the Bold Coast. Would love to meet him once in my life....I'm 46 and always loved his stuff. Remember my Dad taking me to the drive ins to see Carrie...Scared the hell out of me back then....
It's crazy as hell, how even if translated (how I've read them) King's book give an impression that he is a great guy. He knows who the good guys are. This is overly simplistic of course, but do you know what I mean? The feeling I get from his books, that he has been around and knows people and how they are. The good and the bad.
Very interesting comment about many comedians having "...very, very short arcs". I can think of comics who were very popular quite a few years ago and I haven't heard or seen anything about them in a long time. Just recently I read a fascinating book called "Books in My Baggage", 1959, Lawrence Clark Powell who was a librarian at U.C.L.A., among other scholarly occupations and roles. The books is memoirs/essays about the power of books in one's life and how we can better understand a geographic region by literature about it. Powell also talked about writers writing too long or writing their best work early in their careers. "Books in My Baggage' is one of the most engrossing books I've ever read and it makes me love books even more. I wonder if Stephen King has ever read it too!---Back around 1990 I read a TIME article or interview in which Mr. King said he read "King's Row" and "Peyton Place" both in the same year. I then read both of those books too.
the first next book im going to get is from him, and read, i havent read any of his novels but i like his sense of mainstream audience and quality when he talks about it.
He has about thirty unpublished book, maybe more. When the published "Buick eight", he was going to quit writing. He couldn't quit, he tosses the stinkers.
Al Hirschfeld was a caricature artist who was drawing up until his death at the age of 99 so who knows. Maybe Stephen King will still be writing at age 99
